  • More of the same from Trent Richardson

Colts running back Trent Richardson gained 21 yards on nine carries against the Giants, adding a 4-yard catch on his only target. He's averaged 2.4 yards per carry through two preseason games.

Richardson, who averaged 3.0 yards per carry last season, will try to get going Saturday in the third preseason game against the Saints.

  • Jonathan Grimes leads team with 42 rushing yards vs. Falcons

Texans running back Jonathan Grimes led his team in rushing Saturday, gaining 42 yards on nine carries and catching three passes for 25 yards in his team's 32-7 preseason win over the Falcons.

Grimes is the favorite to open the season as Arian Foster's direct backup, and though he started off slow Saturday, he broke off a 22-yard run in the second quarter that was Foster-esque for his balance and cutback ability. Grimes mixed in with rookie Alfred Blue throughout the first half, giving the team a good look at the presumed depth chart behind Foster this season.

  • Joseph Randle RB | DAL

Joseph Randle leads Cowboys in rushing again vs. Ravens

Cowboys running back Joseph Randle led the team in rushing yards in its first preseason game, and he accomplished the same feat again Saturday, racking up 41 yards on seven carries and adding another eight yards on one reception in his team's loss to the Ravens.

Randle was the third back in for the Cowboys, but he did see action at the end of the first quarter as well as in the second and third quarters before wrapping up his night. He may continue to serve as the No. 3 back during the regular season, but Randle would be the favorite to lead the team in carries each week if something were to happen to starter DeMarco Murray.

  • Lorenzo Taliaferro reaches paydirt vs. Cowboys

Ravens rookie running back Lorenzo Taliaferro led the team in rushing Saturday, gaining 59 yards on 16 carries and adding one catch for 10 yards in his team's 37-30 win over the Cowboys.

Taliaferro was the team's primary rushing threat in the second half, and he delivered a three-yard touchdown on the first drive after halftime. After leading all rookie backs in rushing yards last week, it's possible Taliaferro has begun to carve out a solid role for himself once regular-season hits.

  • Chris Johnson RB | ARI

Chris Johnson shows flashes of old self vs. Bengals

Jets running back Chris Johnson showed some flashes of his old self during Saturday's preseason game against the Bengals.

Johnson was used mostly out of the pistol formation and played the entire first half. He took 10 handoffs for 63 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per attempt. He also caught two passes for 1 yard. His running mate, Bilal Powell, only received six touches in the first half.

  • Doug Martin RB | LV

Doug Martin racks up 24 yards in exhibition game

Buccaneers running back Doug Martin looked sharp during his limited work Saturday night against Miami in exhibition play.

Martin worked the first three series with the first-team offense and played into the second quarter. He took six handoffs for 24 yards, averaging 4.0 yards per attempt. His longest gain was an 8-yard dash on the second drive of the game. He also caught one pass for 4 yards.

  • Bernard Pierce RB | DEN

Bernard Pierce racks up 55 yards vs. Cowboys

Ravens running back Bernard Pierce rushed for 55 yards on just sevn carries in Saturday's 37-30 preseason win over the Cowboys.

Pierce entered halftime with just 25 yards but returned to the field on the first drive of the second half and ripped off a 30-yard run in his last touch of the night. He didn't haul in his only target in the passing game. Pierce is looking at a large workload over the team's first two regular-season games with Ray Rice out, and his playing time upon the return of Rice will likely depend on what he does in those two games.

  • Damien Williams returns to action vs. Tampa Bay

Dolphins wide receiver Damien Williams bounced back from a injury scare his last time out and returned to action Saturday against Tampa Bay in preseason play. Williams had 11 carries for 20 yards and a touchdown. He also caught one pass for a gain of 4 yards.

  • Isaiah Pead RB | MIA

Rams fear ACL tear for Isaiah Pead

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher told reporters postgame that he believes running back Isaiah Pead tore his ACL on Saturday, per FOX Sports.

Pead ran back a kickoff for 33 yards in the opening quarter. He made a cut up field and his leg buckled, which appeared to have caused the non-contact injury. He will have an MRI on Sunday to determine the extent of the injury.

  • Buccaneers have seven players sidelined vs. Dolphins
