  • C.J. Anderson RB | LAR

Raiders' C.J. Anderson: Not assured of role

Coach Jon Gruden said the decision to sign Anderson on Tuesday was partially a product of Doug Martin's knee injury, Matt Schneidman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Alas, Martin was a full participant at Wednesday's practice and now looks like a strong bet to play Sunday against Pittsburgh. The Raiders may still carve out some carries for Anderson over the final four games, but it wouldn't be wise to count on any significant volume coming his way this weekend.

  • Doug Martin RB | LV

Raiders' Doug Martin: Logs full practice

    Martin (knee) practiced fully Wednesday.

Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle previously relayed there might be some uncertainty regarding Martin's Week 14 status after the team signed fellow running back C.J. Anderson on Tuesday. However, Martin's full participation in the Raiders' first session of the week suggests that he'll be good to go Sunday versus the Steelers. That said, it will still be worth monitoring Martin's situation in the event his reps are limited either Thursday or Friday.

  • Bears' Benny Cunningham: Limited in practice Wednesday

Cunningham (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.

Cunningham sat out last week's loss to the Giants due to an ankle injury, and continues to manage his recovery from the issue. If Cunningham is unable to suit up Week 14, expect Tarik Cohen to serve as the Bears' top kick returner.

  • Kenyan Drake RB | GB

Dolphins' Kenyan Drake: Limited practice session Wednesday

Drake (shoulder) was limited at practice Wednesday.

Drake sported a non-contact jersey during Wednesday's practice, per Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post. That was also the case last week, but the running back ended up playing in the Dolphins' victory over the Bills on Sunday. During the contest, Drake played 30 of the team's offensive snaps, parlaying the workload into seven carries for 31 yards and two receptions for 13 yards and a touchdown on four targets. With no reported setbacks in that contest, it's assumed Drake's limitations Wednesday were precautionary.

  • Melvin Gordon RB | BAL

Chargers' Melvin Gordon: Misses practice Wednesday

    Gordon (knee) didn't practice Wednesday.

Per Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com, coach Anthony Lynn indicated that as the week rolls along, Gordon's ability to change directions and protect himself in team drills will be important factors in the Chargers' decision regarding the running back's availability for Sunday's game against the Bengals. Should Gordon miss a second straight contest, Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson would be in store for another week of sharing the backfield snaps.

  • Gus Edwards RB | LAC

Ravens' Gus Edwards: Not listed on injury report

Edwards (ankle) wasn't listed Wednesday on the Ravens' initial injury report for Week 14.

Edwards has been tending to an ankle issue of late, but he logged 21 carries for 82 yards in a Week 13 win over the Falcons. His exclusion from the injury report indicates that he escaped that contest without any setbacks with his ankle, which should set him to head the Baltimore backfield again Sunday versus the Chiefs. He'll take aim at a Kansas City defense that has allowed an average of 122 rushing yards per game to date.

  • Joe Mixon RB | HOU

Bengals' Joe Mixon: Logs limited practice

Mixon was limited at practice Wednesday due to a foot injury, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.

It's uncertain if Mixon is carrying the injury over from Week 13 action or if he hurt his foot during Wednesday's session. If Mixon ends up being limited or withheld from Sunday's game against the Chargers, added backfield opportunities would be available for Giovani Bernard.

  • Doug Martin RB | LV

Raiders' Doug Martin: Dealing with knee injury

Martin has a knee injury and is uncertain to play Sunday against the Steelers, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Coach Jon Gruden said the injury inspired Oakland's signing of C.J. Anderson on Tuesday, though the team is hopeful Martin can avoid missing game action. Wednesday's practice report will provide the next hint about Martin's progress as the Raiders prepare to face a Steelers defense ranked 12th in yards per carry allowed (4.2) and eighth in rushing yards per game allowed (100.4) this season. Injury woes aside, the matchup favors pass-catching back Jalen Richards more than Anderson and/or an available Martin.

  • John Kelly RB | CLE

Rams' John Kelly: Could take No. 2 gig

Kelly will compete with Justin Davis for snaps as the Rams' backup running back while Malcolm Brown (clavicle) is unavailable, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.

A rookie sixth-round pick, Kelly has been a healthy scratch all season while Davis has strictly played special teams. Kelly was more impressive of the two during the exhibition slate, but Davis has the advantage of being in his second year with the Rams. Of course, Brown's indefinite absence doesn't have much impact on the game plan for Week 14 in Chicago, seeing as Todd Gurley has played 85 percent of the offensive snaps this season. It could come into play Week 17 if the Rams don't have anything to play for and decide to rest key players.

  • Gus Edwards RB | LAC

Ravens' Gus Edwards: Expects to play Week 14

Edwards is continuing to receive treatment for a lingering ankle injury but believes he'll be available for Sunday's game at Kansas City, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.

The Ravens swapped out Kenneth Dixon (knee) for Alex Collins (foot) as residents of injured reserve, but Edwards remained the lead runner in this backfield Week 13 in Atlanta. Over his three impressive performances in a row, Edwards has recorded 61 carries for 315 yards and one touchdown. However, he was seen limping off the field near the end of Sunday's game, increasing the likelihood that he will be included on the injury report this week. Wednesday's version will reveal Edwards' level of practice participation.
