  • Corey Grant RB | JAC

Corey Grant: Let go by Green Bay

Grant was waived by the Packers on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Grant had just signed July 26, but he was sent packing just two weeks later. The 27-year-old played just five games with the Jaguars last season, rushing for 40 yards on 13 attempts. Grant could be an attractive option for a team looking to bolster its running back depth, considering he's averaged 5.6 yards per carry during his career and has experience returning punts and kickoffs.

  • Boston Scott RB | PIT

Eagles' Boston Scott: Out with injury

Scott (ankle) won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Titans, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.

Scott has been dealing with an ankle injury this week, so he would be out there Thursday if he was healthy. This isn't a great sign for the Louisiana Tech product, considering the team signed Darren Sproles this offseason, and the depth chart is littered with quality backs. It's likely that youngsters Miles Sanders and Donnel Pumphrey get most of the run in the offense for Thursday's game.

  • Saquon Barkley RB | PHI

Giants' Saquon Barkley: Likely to sit Thursday

Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record doesn't expect Barkley to see action in Thursday's preseason opener against the Jets.

There's plenty of high profile players being rested league-wide Thursday and it looks like Barkley's name can be added to that list. The Giants' next preseason game is next Friday against the Bears.

  • Thomas Rawls RB | JAC

Jaguars' Thomas Rawls: Out for first preseason game

Rawls (hamstring) will not suit up for Thursday's preseason game against the Bills, John Oehser of the team's official site reports.

Rawls has been hampered by a hamstring issue that has held him out from quite a bit of training camp work, so his absence isn't related to his veteran status. He's one of four running backs out for the game, so duties will be handed off to Alfred Blue, Ryquell Armstead and Devante Mays on Thursday.

  • Jaguars' Benny Cunningham: Won't play Thursday

Cunningham will not dress for Thursday's preseason game against the Bills, John Oehser of the team's official site reports.

Cunningham is likely receiving the day-off due to his veteran status, with nothing to prove unlike young players. Alfred Blue, Ryquell Armstead and Devante Mays stand to handle the running back duties with a slew of players out for the Jaguars.

  • Jordan Wilkins RB | CLE

Colts' Jordan Wilkins: Taking seat Thursday

Wilkins will be held out of Thursday's preseason game in Buffalo, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.

Wilkins tended to a hamstring injury earlier in training camp, so his absence likely is precautionary. Among those in the Colts backfield, Marlon Mack is expected to join Wilkins on the sideline, per coach Frank Reich. As a result, Nyheim Hines, Jonathan Williams and Aca'Cedric Ware should handle the bulk of the work, with the potential for newcomer D'Onta Foreman to contribute as well.

  • Saints' Kerwynn Williams: Inks deal with New Orleans

Williams signed a contract with the Saints on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

The Saints waived/injured running back Matthew Dayes (undisclosed) on Thursday, so the team used the now-open roster spot to sign Williams. The Saints are fairly secure with their running back depth heading into the preseason, but Williams will still compete for a potential depth role with the team.

  • Matt Dayes RB | NO

Matt Dayes: Waived by New Orleans

Dayes was waived/injured by the Saints on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

It's unclear what injury Dayes suffered that led to his release, but he will revert to the team's injured reserve once he clears waivers. The Saints used the open roster spot to sign Kerwynn Williams.

  • Alvin Kamara RB | NO

Saints' Alvin Kamara: Workload won't change much

Kamara will have a similar workload in 2019 to that which he had working in tandem with Mark Ingram during his first two pro seasons, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.

Many have been salivating at the thought of an unleashed Kamara, who was on pace for more than 2,400 yards from scrimmage and 24 touchdowns during his cameo as the clear No. 1 RB with Mark Ingram serving a four-game suspension to start last season. With Ingram back in the saddle, Kamara still averaged 92.2 scrimmage yards per game and scored 12 TDs in 13 games (including playoffs), but his usage dropped from 82 percent of the offensive snaps before his return to 61 percent afterward. In the offseason, the Saints allowed the do-it-all Ingram to move on as a free agent and replaced him with power back Latavius Murray. The breakdown of reps between Kamara and Murray remains to be seen, but as coach Sean Payton noted, "I think our pitch count and how we've played and utilized him [Kamara] has been really good." That's not to say Kamara's workload won't change at all, but Payton seems content to roll him out as he normally has this fall.

  • Derrick Henry RB | BAL

Titans' Derrick Henry: Won't play Thursday

Henry (calf) won't play in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Eagles, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

The report adds that change-of-pace back Dion Lewis could also be rested, or limited, which sets the stage for Jeremy McNichols, Dalyn Dawkins and Alex Barnes to battle for backup slotting in the Tennessee backfield Thursday night.
