Matt Breida RB | SF
49ers' Matt Breida: Makes first preseason appearance
Breida rushed once for four yards and caught his lone target for no yardage in Monday night's 24-15 preseason win over the Broncos.
Breida entered the game behind fellow tailback Tevin Coleman, who finished with 21 yards on three carries -- although neither player featured beyond the first quarter as they saw their first action of the preseason. Coleman appears to be the favorite to lead the backfield in touches, but with Jerrick McKinnon still sorting out his knee issue, Breida should retain a meaningful role in coach Kyle Shanahan's run-friendly offense.

Melvin Gordon RB | BAL
Chargers' Melvin Gordon: Keeping in shape
Gordon is staying in football shape while awaiting a resolution on his holdout for a new contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. "[I'm] just waiting on the call," Gordon said Monday.
There doesn't seem to be lack of confidence in Gordon's comments. Rather, he's doing his due diligence while his representatives and the Chargers work on the business side of the game. Gordon is seeking a deal that approaches those of the top three running backs -- at least $13 million per season and $20-plus million in guarantees. His performance when on the field seems to warrant a pay raise, but he's also missed nine games through four pro campaigns. This final aspect may be the point of contention in negotiations, which Gordon is willing to let linger into the regular season.

Devine Ozigbo RB | DET
Saints' Devine Ozigbo: Sports non-contact jersey
Ozigbo wore a red non-contact jersey during Monday's practice, Nathan Brown of The New Orleans Advocate reports.
Ozigbo's limited participation Monday implies that the undrafted rookie may be dealing with an undisclosed injury. The Nebraska product is competing for a depth spot on the 53-man roster and would be well served to get healthy without missing much time.

D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE
Colts' D'Onta Foreman: Suffers torn biceps
Foreman's placement on IR is the result of a torn biceps, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Per the report, Foreman faces a four-month recovery period, but on the plus side a full recovery is expected. It remains to be seen if playing at some point late this season is a possibility for the bruising back, but either way, the 2017 third-rounder is under contract with the Colts through the 2020 season.

Mark Walton RB | MIA
Dolphins' Mark Walton: Avoids jail time
Walton won't serve any jail time for his three 2019 arrests, but he may be suspended by the NFL, Charles Trainor of The Miami Herald reports.
The possibility of a suspension could impact Walton's bid for the No. 3 job in the Miami backfield. He actually got the start in Friday's preseason game against Tampa Bay, with Kenyan Drake (foot) unavailable and Kalen Ballage held out as a precaution. Any NFL discipline for Walton could help the roster odds for Myles Gaskin, Patrick Laird or Kenneth Farrow.

Derrick Henry RB | BAL
Titans' Derrick Henry: Returns to practice
Henry (calf) returned to practice Monday, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
Per the report, Henry took part in the individual portion of Monday's practice, and we'll assume that he'll continue to up his participation as the week rolls along, in the absence of any setbacks. Henry will look to build off last season's strong finish, and assuming his health the physical back will head the Titans' ground attack in 2019, with Dion Lewis slated to reprise his role as the team's top change-of-pace option.

D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE
Colts' D'Onta Foreman: Lands on IR
The Colts are placing Foreman (undisclosed) on injured reserve, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Touted as a candidate to displace Lamar Miller in the Houston backfield, Foreman instead was waived by the Texans in early August, subsequently landing with the division-rival Colts. Foreman's bid for reserve work in the Indianapolis backfield now ends before it ever really started, with the team bringing in Charcandrick West and undrafted rookie Marquis Young to fill out the roster. There hasn't been any report about the nature of the injury that forced Foreman to IR.

Darwin Thompson RB | LV
Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Shows pass-blocking chops
Thompson's work as a pass blocker has caught the attention of coach Andy Reid, ESPN.com's Adam Teicher reports. "[Thompson]'s able to see the blitz, which is a big thing for the young guys,'' Reid said. "He's got good vision in the run game and then he's got a pretty good understanding of the pass game."
The rookie sixth-round pick also has looked good with the ball in his hands, taking nine carries for 52 yards and scoring a 29-yard touchdown on his lone reception through the first two weeks of the preseason. Meanwhile, Carlos Hyde has a 7-25-1 rushing line with one lost fumble and no catches. Damien Williams is locked in atop the depth chart, but Thompson has at least made a strong case to share backup work with Hyde. The competent work as a pass blocker could go a long way toward earning regular-season snaps.

Corey Clement RB | ARI
Eagles' Corey Clement: Getting run with first unit
Clement (knee) is getting a lot of first-team work Monday in joint practices with the Ravens, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports.
Clement returned to 11-on-11 work during the first week of August, but he hasn't been a regular participant and didn't play in the first two weeks of the preseason. The Eagles seem to be gearing him up for an appearance in Thursday's exhibition against Baltimore, with the third-year pro potentially needing to fend off competition for his roster spot.

Christian McCaffrey RB | SF
Panthers' Christian McCaffrey: Slated to suit up Thursday
McCaffrey is expected to play in Thursday's preseason game at New England, Max Henson of the Panthers' official site reports.
McCaffrey's workload is to be determined, but the Panthers' lead back will take the field for the first time this exhibition season. Once his cameo is complete, he'll be locked and loaded to serve as one of the NFL's workhorses for Week 1 and beyond.
