  • Miles Sanders RB | DAL

Eagles' Miles Sanders: Begins week with full practice

Sanders (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Sanders missed Philadelphia's season-opening loss to Washington due to his lingering hamstring injury, but he now looks fully on track to reclaim his lead role in the backfield this Sunday against the Rams. Barring any setbacks in practice, Sanders should handle his usual workload Week 2, with Boston Scott relegated to backup duties.

Eagles' Miles Sanders: Trending toward Week 2 return

Sanders (hamstring) is on track to play Sunday against the Rams, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News noted that coach Doug Pederson expects Sanders to practice fully Wednesday. If that's the case and the running back doesn't experience any setbacks in the process, he would clearly be trending toward reclaiming his role as the Eagles' lead back Week 2.

  • Jets' La'Mical Perine: Won't practice Wednesday

Perine (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, but he's expected do some work with the trainers on the side during the session, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

The status of Perine, who was sidelined Week 1, gains added import for the Jets, with Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) now on injured reserve and set to miss at least three weeks. For now, the team's healthy running back options are Frank Gore, Kalen Ballage and practice squad member Josh Adams.

Eagles' Miles Sanders: Expected to put in full workout

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he expects Sanders (hamstring) to practice fully Wednesday, Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

Later Wednesday, the Eagles will release their first Week 2 practice report, which will reveal whether Sanders was in fact a full participant in the session. Labeled as day-to-day by Pederson heading into last week, Sanders logged three consecutive limited practices before being listed as questionable and ultimately ruled out ahead of the Eagles' eventual Week 1 loss to Washington. Assuming Sanders gains clearance for Week 2, he should settle back into a starting role, though the Eagles could limit his workload more than usual as he looks to move past the hamstring issue he picked up during training camp.

  • Marlon Mack RB | ARI

Colts' Marlon Mack: Placed on IR

The Colts placed Mack (Achilles) on injured reserve Wednesday.

Mack is set to miss the remainder of the 2020 season after rupturing his right Achilles' tendon in the Colts' Week 1 loss to the Jaguars. The season-ending injury comes at an unfortunate time for Mack, an impending free agent who was hoping to play well in the final year of his rookie deal and potentially cash in this spring. With Mack out of the mix, rookie second-round pick Jonathan Taylor steps in as the Colts' top ball carrier, while Nyheim Hines could be in store for a heightened role as Indianapolis' top change-of-pace option out of the backfield. The Colts elevated receiver Daurice Fountain from the practice squad to take Mack's spot on the 53-man roster.

  • Jeremy McNichols: Bounces back to practice squad

McNichols has reverted to the Titans' practice squad, per the NFL's official transaction report.

McNichols suited up in the Titans' season opener and logged 13 offensive snaps, but he couldn't haul in his lone target. The Boise State product could be called back up if rookie Darrynton Evans (hamstring) can't go in Week 2's game versus Jacksonville.

  • Jonathan Williams: Back to active roster

Williams reverted to the Lions' practice squad Tuesday.

Williams was brought up to the active roster for Week 1's divisional showdown against the Bears, but the running back was ultimately a healthy scratch. The Lions have plenty of backfield depth, so Williams will struggle to climb the team's depth chart.

  • Royce Freeman RB | CHI

Broncos' Royce Freeman: Nearly hits paydirt

Freeman was unable to pick up any yardage on his one rush attempt, but he did collect 12 receiving yards on his lone catch during Monday's 16-14 loss to the Titans.

Freeman was tackled just shy of the end zone on his fourth-quarter reception. The Broncos tried to dial up a goal-line touchdown run for Freeman on the subsequent play, but he was stopped for no gain before Melvin Gordon eventually punched in Denver's second TD of the night. Phillip Lindsay is set to undergo an MRI on what is believed to be a mild case of turf toe developed during Monday's game, but if he is inactive or limited Week 2, Freeman may see an uptick in usage against a Steelers defense that held Giants backs to an incredibly low seven rushing yards on 16 carries in its season debut.

  • Miles Sanders RB | DAL

Eagles' Miles Sanders: Will see more work in practice

Sanders (hamstring) will have his workload increased in practice this week, Vaughn Washington of the Eagles' official site reports.

Nearly a month has passed since the injury originally surfaced, but Sanders didn't recover as quickly as the team hoped and was forced to sit out of the Eagles' Week 1 loss to Washington. It sounds as if he has an increasingly good shot to suit up for Week 2, however, albeit with an uncertain workload coming off the injury.

  • Saints' Latavius Murray: Team's leading rusher Week 1

Murray collected 48 rushing yards on 15 carries during Sunday's 34-23 win against the Buccaneers.

In a matchup against the No. 1 rush defense from 2019, Murray handled 53.6 percent of New Orleans' running back carries while establishing a 3.2 YPC. Though that would be a wildly inefficient clip most days, Murray was clearly a more effective rusher than Alvin Kamara on Sunday, as the three-time Pro Bowler averaged just 1.3 yards per carry in comparison. Kamara compensated in the passing game, however, with five catches for 51 yards and a touchdown (in addition to his rushing TD), while Murray had no receptions on one target. Murray will continue to be utilized as a between-the-tackles option Week 2, when the Saints travel to take on a Raiders defense that surrendered 128 rushing yards and two rushing scores to Carolina in its season debut.
