  • Chase Edmonds RB | WAS

Cardinals' Chase Edmonds: Notches six touches Sunday

Edmonds tallied three rushes for four yards and gathered in three of four targets for nine yards during Sunday's 30-15 win versus Washington.

After playing 28 snaps on offense and scoring a TD on nine touches in the Cardinals' Week 1 victory at San Francisco, Edmonds logged 27 such plays but didn't find pay dirt on six touches one week later. Meanwhile, starting running back Kenyan Drake has racked up 108 offensive snaps and scooped up most of the backfield work (40 total touches). Edmonds will make the occasional splash play, like he did in the season opener, but as long as Drake is healthy, the former will have outings like Sunday's more often than not.

  • Saints' Latavius Murray: Five touches against Raiders

Murray ran for 14 yards on three carries while hauling in both of his targets for 19 receiving yards during Monday's 34-24 loss to the Raiders.

The game script worked against Murray somewhat, as New Orleans fell into its first deficit at the 9:58 mark of the third quarter, and subsequently ducked into a two-possession disadvantage midway through the fourth quarter. Besides that, Alvin Kamara found himself in the midst of a magical night, racking up 79 yards and two touchdowns on the ground as well as 95 receiving yards on a combined 22 offensive touches. Murray wasn't able to put forth a noteworthy performance against his former team, but now he'll focus on a Packers defense that has surrendered 4.9 yards per rush to opposing running backs through two weeks.

  • Jonathan Williams: Released from practice squad

The Lions cut Williams from the practice squad Tuesday.

The Lions have a deep group of running backs on the active roster, so Williams likely wouldn't be able to secure a role this season. Backfield injuries have piled up around the league, so Williams should be able to leverage last year's impressive stint with Indianapolis into a practice squad or even depth role elsewhere.

  • JaMycal Hasty: Could get promoted soon

Hasty could be called up from the practice squad with the 49ers having just two healthy running backs on the roster heading into a Week 3 matchup against the Giants, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The 49ers were ravaged by injuries in a Week 2 victory over the Jets. With Raheem Mostert (knee) doubtful to suit up and Tevin Coleman (knee) already ruled out for multiple weeks, the club is left with Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson as the only healthy backs this week. Hasty was stashed on the practice squad due to his combination of speed and pass-catching ability. The undrafted Baylor product could immediately see touches if promoted in an offense that prefers to deploy a three-back committee on game days.

  • Jeff Wilson RB | MIA

49ers' Jeff Wilson: Increased duties on tap?

Wilson is expected to have an increased role Sunday versus the Giants since Raheem Mostert (knee) and Tevin Coleman (knee) are doubtful, Alex Shultz of SFGate.com reports.

Wilson and Jerick McKinnon will lead the 49ers' backfield in Week 3, and there's a chance practice squad RB JaMycal Hasty gets a few reps, too. Wilson has logged just two carries for three yards through two games, while McKinnon has showed more explosiveness with six rushes for 101 yards and a TD and three receptions for 20 yards and a score. It'll be tough to depend on Wilson in most formats, but he has sneaky TD potential.

  • Saquon Barkley RB | PHI

Giants' Saquon Barkley: IR move official

The Giants placed Barkley (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Michael Eisen of the team's official site reports.

The transaction was merely a formality after Barkley underwent an MRI on Monday that confirmed he sustained a season-ending ACL tear in right knee during the Giants' Week 2 loss to the Bears. The Giants have yet to set a date for Barkley's knee surgery, but assuming he experiences no snags in the recovery process, he should be ready to go for the start of the 2020 campaign. In the meantime, Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman are tentatively in line to handle the bulk of the Giants' snaps and touches out of the backfield Week 3, though New York is believed to be considering bringing aboard ex-Falcons starter Devonta Freeman to provide additional competition.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Second in backfield snaps

Thompson rushed four times for 21 yards and failed to haul in his lone target Sunday versus the Chargers.

Thompson's added work came following Darrel Williams' departure due to an ankle issue, and he made the most of them, averaging 5.25 yards per carry. While the showing doesn't align him with major work in the future, Thompson could continue to slot in as the backup to Clyde Edwards-Helaire if Williams were to miss additional action.

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Expected to avoid lengthy absence

Mostert (knee) isn't expected to play Sunday against the Giants, but the 49ers are optimistic he'll avoid an extended absence after an MRI confirmed he sustained an MCL sprain in the team's Week 2 win over the Jets, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

One of several San Francisco players who exited early due to injury in the team's 31-13 win at MetLife Stadium, Mostert at least appears fortunate to have avoided a setback with his knee that will cost him extended time. That said, Mostert will likely need at least a week to heal up from his sprained knee, and the 49ers aren't expected to have backup Tevin Coleman (knee) available versus the Giants either. As the only healthy backs left standing, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson are poised to handle most of the reps and touches at the position Week 3, with McKinnon's prowess as a pass catcher probably making him the more appealing fantasy option of the two in the likely event Mostert is sidelined.

  • Buccaneers' Ke'Shawn Vaughn: Doesn't see field Week 2

Vaughn did not log any snaps for the second straight game in Sunday's 31-17 win over the Panthers.

The rookie running back unsurprisingly remains behind the top trio of Ronald Jones, Leonard Fournette and LeSean McCoy, and given all three have a role in the offense at the moment, Vaughn could remain on the outside looking in for the foreseeable future.

  • Josh Jacobs RB | GB

Raiders' Josh Jacobs: Garners 30 touches

Jacobs rushed 27 times for 88 yards and caught all three of his targets for 17 yards in Monday night's 34-24 win over the Saints.

Jacobs again saw a lion's share of touches as the centerpiece of Las Vegas' offense. Although he averaged under four yards per carry for the second straight week, Jacobs benefitted from his huge volume, now topping 85 yards in consecutive outings. The second-year tailback also got involved in the passing game, snagging each ball thrown his way. Even though his fantasy managers will be disappointed by a failed attempt at a one-yard touchdown during the second half, Jacobs' critical role for the Raiders offers great encouragement going into Week 3's game against the Patriots.
