Chargers' Austin Ekeler: Dealing with hamstring injury

When asked about the hamstring injury Ekeler suffered in Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers, coach Anthony Lynn replied "I'm not sure how bad it is, but it looked pretty bad," Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register reports.

It's too soon to know how much, if any, further game action Ekeler might miss, but his status for next Monday's contest against the Saints will obviously need to be monitored closely, based on Lynn's post-game comments. Joshua Kelley and Justin Jackson are next up for the Chargers' carries if Ekeler is limited or out in Week 5.

  • Joshua Kelley RB | TEN

Chargers' Joshua Kelley: Can't find running room in loss

Kelley rushed nine times for seven yards and brought in all three targets for 26 yards in the Chargers' 38-31 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.

The rookie fourth-round pick had an opportunity to assume control of the backfield after Austin Ekeler exited the game for good in the first quarter due to a hamstring injury, but Kelley found the sledding to be extremely rough versus the Buccaneers' typically stalwart front seven. Additionally, his late first-half fumble at the Chargers' eight-yard line helped ignite a Buccaneers comeback that led to Tampa Bay scoring 35 points from that point onward. Kelley did appear to soak up some of Ekeler's usual passing game work by logging a modest but nevertheless season-high three targets, and he could be in line for a heavy workload in a Week 5 road matchup versus the Saints if Ekeler remains sidelined.

Chargers' Austin Ekeler: Injury-shortened day in loss

Ekeler rushed twice for 12 yards and brought in his one target for two yards in the Chargers' 38-31 loss to the Buccaneers before exiting for good in the first quarter due to a hamstring injury.

The versatile veteran had gotten off to a solid start on the ground before being felled by his left hamstring injury. Given the delicate and unpredictable nature of soft-tissue injuries, Ekeler's availability for a Week 5 Monday night road matchup against the Saints likely will be up in the air for a significant portion of the upcoming week.

  • D'Andre Swift RB | CHI

Lions' D'Andre Swift: Catches TD in loss

Swift rushed four times for 22 yards and caught all four of his targets for 30 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 35-29 loss to the Saints.

Swift capped the opening drive with a seven-yard touchdown, giving the rookie one touchdown through the air and one on the ground through four games. His four carries ranked second on the team behind Adrian Peterson's 11, which Peterson turned into 36 yards and a touchdown. Swift's superior receiving skills are useful on a Lions team that's often playing catch-up, and his development should benefit from the team's early Week 5 bye.

  • Ronald Jones RB | DAL

Buccaneers' Ronald Jones: Goes over 100-yard mark in win

Jones rushed 20 times for 111 yards and brought in six of nine targets for 17 yards in the Buccaneers' 38-31 win over the Chargers on Sunday.

The third-year back took on clear lead-back duties with Leonard Fournette (ankle) out of action Sunday and LeSean McCoy ultimately exiting early with an ankle issue of his own. The extra responsibility ultimately equated to a productive fantasy day for Jones, who logged a career-high number of targets in the short passing game. The USC product could have a similar level of usage on the ground in a Thursday night matchup against the Bears, as Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports that Fournette "has a chance" but may not necessarily be ready to go on the short week, and McCoy could potentially be forced to sit out as well.

  • Dalvin Cook RB | DAL

Vikings' Dalvin Cook: Monster ground game against Texans

Cook ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries, also corralling both of his targets for 16 receiving yards during Sunday's 31-23 win against Houston. Cook briefly exited the game with an undisclosed injury near the start of the fourth quarter, but he was able to return.

The reigning Pro Bowl back has been magnificent the past two weeks, combining for 345 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns against AFC South foes Tennessee and Houston. Cook was still a top-shelf fantasy producer Weeks 1 and 2, though his value was much more touchdown-dependent during that span, as he combined for just 121 scrimmage yards in those two games with three total TDs. Up next is a challenging matchup for Cook, as he faces a Seattle defense that entered Sunday allowing the second-lowest total of RB rushing yardage on the season (126) before stifling Dolphins backs for just 51 rushing yards during Week 4.

  • Saints' Latavius Murray: Scores twice in Week 4 win

Murray rushed 14 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns while catching one of two targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 35-29 win over Detroit.

Murray plowed in for a three-yard touchdown on third down to cut the Saints' deficit to 14-7 in the first quarter, and his six-yard rushing score in the third quarter made it 35-14 New Orleans. Alvin Kamara led the team with 19 carries and also found the end zone on the ground, but this game corroborated there's plenty of room for Murray to produce value as the powerful between-the-tackles complement to Kamara's speed and elusiveness. Look for New Orleans to maintain its run-first approach in Week 5 against the Chargers, especially if top wide receiver Michael Thomas (ankle) still isn't ready to return from the injury he suffered Week 1.

  • Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Piles up 125 scrimmage yards

Elliott carried 12 times for 54 yards and caught all eight of his targets for 71 additional yards during Sunday's 49-38 loss to the Browns. He also lost a fumble and caught a two-point conversion.

Elliott managed a respectable 4.5 yards per carry, but he saw his attempts limited as his team yet again played from behind for most of the game. He was quite active as a pass catcher, however, and made his largest contribution in that regard since Week 15 of the 2018 season. Elliott lost a fumble in the first half that directly led to a Cleveland score and has now put the ball on the ground three times through four games, losing two of those fumbles. He also failed to score a TD for the first time this season, but he should have a chance to get back on track next Sunday against the Giants.

  • Nick Chubb RB | HOU

Browns' Nick Chubb: Will undergo MRI

Chubb will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the knee injury he suffered in Sunday's 49-38 win over the Cowboys, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.

It's too soon to know if Chubb will be forced to miss any additional game action, but if he does, both Kareem Hunt and D'Ernest Johnson would be in line for added touches out of the Cleveland backfield.

  • Jaguars' James Robinson: Over 100 scrimmage yards in loss

Robinson rushed 17 times for 75 yards and caught all four of his targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 33-25 loss to the Bengals.

Robinson topped 100 scrimmage yards for a third consecutive week, but it was a bit disappointing that he failed to do more against a Bengals defense that came in allowing 181.7 yards per game on the ground. Only the Texans entered Week 4 allowing more rushing yards per game, so Robinson will benefit from another favorable matchup when his team travels to Houston in Week 5.
