  • Bears' David Montgomery: Skips practice Wednesday

Montgomery (ankle/knee) didn't take part in practice Wednesday.

Montgomery exited this past Sunday's win against the Texans in the first half, leaving him with a paltry three carries for 11 yards and no targets. Afterward, head coach Matt Eberflus termed Montgomery "day-to-day," and he provided that same label for the running back's status Wednesday, according to Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic. Montgomery will have two more practice sessions to make an appearance this week before the Bears potentially give him a designation for Sunday's contest at the Giants. If Montgomery is limited or sidelined this weekend, Khalil Herbert again will get work in the Chicago backfield, which amounted to 22 touches for 169 yards from scrimmage and two rushing scores in Week 3 in place of Montgomery.

  • James Conner RB | ARI

Cardinals' James Conner: Tending to knee injury

Conner practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday due to a knee injury, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Conner emerged from Week 2 with an ankle issue but was able to suit up this past Sunday against the Rams, playing 50 of 83 offensive snaps (60 percent) on his way to 16 touches for 57 yards from scrimmage. He's now tending to a new injury, though he at least mixed into some drills to kick off Week 4 prep. In any case, Conner's status should be monitored in the coming days to get a sense of his availability for Sunday's game at Carolina.

  • Panthers' Christian McCaffrey: Bothered by thigh, not practicing

McCaffrey didn't practice Wednesday due to a thigh issue, though his injury isn't believed to be serious, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

McCaffrey usually rests on Wednesdays anyway, but this week he actually has an injury, albeit a minor one. Head coach Matt Rhule suggested McCaffrey could return to practice as soon as Thursday, which would likely erase most of the concern about his ability to play in Sunday's game against the Cardinals. If the injury were to threaten McCaffrey's availability, the Panthers would turn to Chuba Hubbard and D'Onta Foreman in the backfield.

  • Dalvin Cook RB | DAL

Vikings' Dalvin Cook: Not practicing, day-to-day

Cook (shoulder) won't practice Wednesday and is still considered day-to-day, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Both Cook and head coach Kevin Stefanski referred to the running back as day-to-day before Wednesday's practice, with Cook noting the Vikings would "figure it out" come Sunday. It's not the first time he's dealt with a subluxation of his left shoulder, and while the injury cost him a game last season, the Vikings hope Cook can face the Saints in London this Sunday while wearing a harness. If not, Alexander Mattison will take over the starting job and most of the backfield work.

  • Travis Homer RB | PIT

Seahawks' Travis Homer: Moved to IR

The Seahawks placed Homer (ribs) on injured reserve Wednesday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.

Homer is ineligible to play in the next four games, with his next possible appearance being Oct. 30 against the Giants in Week 8. His role on passing downs could go to DeeJay Dallas, Rashaad Penny or some combination of the two; both picked up some of Homer's typical snaps in a Week 3 loss to Atlanta.

  • D'Andre Swift RB | CHI

Lions' D'Andre Swift: Not likely to play this week

Swift (shoulder/ankle) won't practice Wednesday, and head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged he isn't optimistic about the running back's chances of playing this Sunday against the Seahawks, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Swift likely will miss out on one of his better matchups of the season, after an ankle injury limited his workload Week 2 and a shoulder sprain cost him some snaps in Week 3. Prior reports have suggested that he could rest for the next two games and come back after a Week 6 bye, but the Lions aren't quite ready to speculate on a timeline for Swift, with Campbell merely suggesting that he views the running back as unlikely to play this upcoming Sunday. If Swift does indeed miss the game, Jamaal Williams will draw the start and becomes an attractive fantasy option in most formats, even with Craig Reynolds potentially getting quite a few carries as well.

  • Commanders' Jonathan Williams: Dealing with illness

Williams was limited during practice Wednesday due to an illness, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

The severity of the aliment doesn't appear to be too serious as the running back was able to at least participate in some of Wednesday's practice. He'll have a couple of days to shake the illness before the team needs to make a decision on his status for Week 4. However, he's played primarily on special teams, so his potential absence wouldn't be a major concern.

  • Ronald Jones RB | DAL

Chiefs' Ronald Jones: Won't practice Wednesday

Jones (illness) will not practice Wednesday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Jones has been a healthy scratch behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon through three weeks, and missing practice time certainly doesn't help matters for him. There's no good reason to believe he'll play at Tampa Bay on Sunday.

  • Alvin Kamara RB | NO

Saints' Alvin Kamara: Starts week limited

Kamara (rib) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

Kamara played through his rib injury Week 3 versus Carolina, but he was limited to 73 scrimmage yards on 17 touches, while Mark Ingram saw five touches and scored New Orleans' only rushing touchdown. If Kamara can increase his practice activity over the next two days, he could be closer to 100 percent form and thus more effective during Sunday's contest against the Vikings in London.

  • D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE

Panthers' D'Onta Foreman: Plays four offensive snaps in win

Foreman failed to record a single rush in Sunday's 22-14 win over the Saints.

Foreman was clearly not a part of the game plan Sunday, as he played just four of the Panthers' 61 offensive snaps. As usual, Christian McCaffrey played the majority of snaps at running back, with Chuba Hubbard recording only three rushing attempts in the contest on only seven snaps. It's possible that the 26-year-old may have lost his place as McCaffrey's top backup, but both his and Hubbard's snap shares were too similar to jump to any definitive conclusions. With that said, neither Foreman nor Hubbard retain much fantasy value barring an injury to McCaffrey. The Panthers are set to host the Cardinals in Week 4, and Foreman remains far off the fantasy radar.
