  • Ronald Jones RB | DAL

Cowboys' Ronald Jones: Suspended for two games

Jones has been suspended for the first two games of the 2023 regular season, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

It's unclear why Jones was suspended or who suspended him between the NFL and the Cowboys, but either way, he won't be eligible to play until Week 3. This should open up more snaps for Malik Davis and rookie Deuce Vaughn, who are both vying for a backup job behind Tony Pollard.

  • Derrick Gore RB | WAS

Commanders' Derrick Gore: Finds new home

Gore signed with the Commanders on Monday.

Gore was waived by the Saints in May after spending part of the season on their practice squad in 2022. The 28-year-old only saw game action in 2021, when he took 51 carries for 256 yards and two touchdowns with Kansas City. He'll work to earn a depth role in Washington's backfield, presumably behind Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson.

  • Alvin Kamara RB | NO

Saints' Alvin Kamara: Wants to meet with Goodell

Kamara plans to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell regarding his offseason arrest and potential suspension, ESPN's Katherine Terrell reports.

The running back hopes to avoid a lengthy suspension from the league after felony charges were dropped in July, when he plead no contest to a misdemeanor charge of breach of peace. A suspension of some sort remains the most likely outcome, but at this point it's hard to know when the decision will be made or exactly how many games Kamara will miss.

  • Evan Hull RB | HOU

Colts' Evan Hull: Big opportunity looms

Hull and Deon Jackson are the top remaining healthy Colts running backs, as Stephen Holder of ESPN reports that Zack Moss is slated to miss 4-to-6 weeks after breaking his arm in Monday's practice.

Jonathan Taylor (ankle) has requested a trade from the team, and Moss' injury could put his availability for the Sept. 10 regular-season opener against the Jaguars in doubt. Hull was drafted for his pass-catching prowess after recording 55 receptions for Northwestern in 2022, but he also had 1,922 rushing yards over his final two college seasons, so the rookie could push Jackson for an expanded role in the absences of Taylor and Moss.

  • Deon Jackson RB | DET

Colts' Deon Jackson: Top healthy Colts RB

Jackson is in line for an expanded role, as Stephen Holder of ESPN reports that Zack Moss is slated to miss 4-to-6 weeks after breaking his arm in Monday's practice.

Moss had been working with the starting offense with Jonathan Taylor (ankle) away from the team after recently requesting a trade. While Moss recovers, Jackson and rookie fifth-round pick Evan Hull are projected to lead the Colts backfield. Jackson got double-digit touches in five games last season, and he averaged 82.8 yards from scrimmage in those games.

  • Zack Moss RB | CIN

Colts' Zack Moss: Suffers broken arm

Moss suffered a broken arm at practice Monday and is expected to miss about six weeks, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Given that the Colts' top running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle/back) is currently sidelined and has also requested a trade, Moss' injury -- which threatens his Week 1 status -- thins out the team's backfield depth ahead of the Aug. 12 preseason opener. For now, Deon Jackson, Evan Hull, Jake Funk and Zavier Scott are the squad's healthy options at running back.

  • Zonovan Knight RB | ARI

Jets' Zonovan Knight: Listed ahead of Abanikanda

Knight is listed second on the Jets' first preseason running back depth chart behind Michael Carter, Eric Allen of the team's official site reports.

Breece Hall (knee) isn't listed since he's still recovering from a torn ACL, but he's the presumed No. 1 option when healthy. It's noteworthy that Knight is ahead of rookie fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda. As long as he stays ahead of Abanikanda, Knight will be in good position to secure a roster spot, barring the Jets shaking things up by signing a veteran such as Dalvin Cook.

  • Seahawks' Kenneth Walker: Called week-to-week by coach

Coach Pete Carroll labeled Walker (groin) week-to-week Monday, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.

Carroll said the team is taking a cautious approach with Walker and fellow injured running back Zach Charbonnet (shoulder) to avoid exacerbating their injuries. While Seattle's top two running backs heal, DeeJay Dallas and Kenny McIntosh will have more prominent roles in practice. We may not see Walker in a game situation until Week 1 against the Rams on Sunday, Sept. 10.

  • Zack Moss RB | CIN

Colts' Zack Moss: Exits Monday's practice

Moss (arm) left Monday's practice early, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

With top back Jonathan Taylor (ankle/back) on the active/PUP list and also having requested a trade, Moss' injury status gains added import ahead of the Colts' preseason opener. While Taylor and Moss are unavailable, Deon Jackson, Evan Hull and Jake Funk are in line to handle the team's backfield reps in practice.

  • Broncos' Javonte Williams: Can participate Monday

Williams (knee) remains ahead of schedule and can participate Monday when the Broncos put on pads for the first time this summer, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports

Doctors reportedly told Williams his recovery from ACL, LCL and PCL tears could take a year to 18 months, but he avoided the PUP list for the start of training camp last week, less than 10 months after suffering the injury. Although he's been cleared for contact, the running back may still have some limitations in the coming weeks as the Broncos assess his readiness for the regular season. Williams suggested to reporters last week that it will be up to the team's coaching staff whether he plays in the preseason.
