  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Team optimistic about new deal

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said Wednesday that he remains optimistic the team will reach a long-term extension with Jackson (knee), Clifton Brown of the team's official site reports.

DeCosta and head coach John Harbaugh made statements in support of retaining Jackson in press conferences on Wednesday, and both offered similar comments in January about the quarterback after the Ravens were eliminated from the playoffs. At this stage of the offseason, the two sides seem far apart in contract talks, but the Ravens have made it clear they'll use the franchise tag on Jackson if it comes to that.

  • Matt Corral QB | MIN

Panthers' Matt Corral: May not be ready for OTAs

Head coach Frank Reich said Wednesday that Corral (foot) may miss the start of OTAs while he recovers from Lisfranc surgery, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Corral missed the entirety of his rookie season after undergoing surgery in early September. The Panthers originally maintained hope that Corral would be fully cleared ahead of the offseason program, but given the typical timeline associated with his recovery from surgery, the fact that the quarterback still hasn't been deemed 100 percent isn't overly surprising. Even if he sits out OTAs, Corral should still have a good chance at being ready to go for training camp, when he could be competing for anything between the starting role and the third spot on the depth chart. For the time being, Corral remains the only Carolina quarterback under contract for the upcoming season, but the Panthers will surely bring in some competition at the position via the trade or free-agent market or through the 2023 NFL Draft this offseason.

  • Derek Carr QB | NO

Derek Carr: Meets with three teams at Combine

Carr met with the Saints, Panthers and Jets at the NFL Scouting Combine this week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Carr became a free agent two weeks ago when the Raiders officially granted him his release, allowing him to get an early start on finding his new home before the start of the new league year March 15. Set to turn 32 years old later this month, Carr is coming off a 2022 campaign in which he completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions to go with 102 rushing yards on 24 carries over 15 appearances before he was benched for the Raiders' final two games of the season.

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Hopes to have surgery next week

Purdy (elbow) will meet with his surgeon later this week and hopes to undergo surgery next week, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner.

Purdy was originally scheduled to undergo surgery for his torn UCL on February 22, but he has continued to experience swelling in the elbow since injuring it in the 49ers' playoff loss to the Eagles. Purdy will have a lengthy rehab once he does go under the knife, and Trey Lance (ankle) is also recovering from a lost 2022 campaign, so the team could dabble in the free-agent market at quarterback this offseason.

  • Marcus Mariota QB | WAS

    Marcus Mariota: Released by Atlanta

The Falcons released Mariota (knee) on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Mariota's release has been expected, and frees up roughly $12 million in cap space for Atlanta. The 29-year-old ended the 2022 season on IR after having been benched for Desmond Ridder, finishing his only campaign as a Falcon with a 15:9 TD:INT through 13 appearances. Once fully recovered from his knee procedure, Mariota will likely draw interest from teams looking for a veteran backup quarterback.

  • Eagles' Gardner Minshew: Solid as backup in 2022

Minshew completed 44 of 76 passes for 663 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions across five appearances (two starts) with the Eagles in 2022. He also had seven carries for three yards and a score, plus four fumbles (one lost).

Minshew started Weeks 16 and 17, against the Cowboys and Saints, resulting in two losses for the Eagles while Jalen Hurts missed time due to a shoulder injury. The soon-to-be 27-year-old is scheduled to hit free agency when the new league year begins, though Philadelphia could have motivation to re-sign him and keep total consistency at the quarterback position. In any case, Minshew shouldn't have trouble find a backup role for the 2023 campaign.

  • C.J. Beathard QB | JAC

Jaguars' C.J. Beathard: Inks new deal with Jags

The Jaguars extended Beathard on Friday, Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union reports.

After having signed a reported two-year deal with the Jaguars, Beathard is in line to remain the team's primary backup quarterback to starter Trevor Lawrence as the 2023 season approaches. The 29-year-old, whose last NFL regular-season start was in 2020 with the 49ers, appeared in four games last season and went 7-for-11 with 35 passing yards and an interception in that span.

  • Colt McCoy QB | ARI

Cardinals' Colt McCoy: Undergoes minor procedure

McCoy (undisclosed) underwent a "minor" procedure following the 2022 season, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN reports.

Ahead of this year's offseason program, starting QB Kyler Murray continues to rehab and recover from a torn ACL, while McCoy recently underwent a procedure to address an unspecified issue. Though Arizona's new head coach Jonathan Gannon said that McCoy "looks good" at this stage, Darren Urban of the team's official site relays via Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill that McCoy figures to face some limitations in the offseason.

  • Kyler Murray QB | MIN

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Return date TBD

Cardinals team owner Michael Bidwill thinks that Murray, who is bouncing back from a torn ACL in his right knee, is ahead of schedule in his recovery, Darren Urban of azcardinals.com reports.

Given that Murray suffered his knee injury on Dec. 12 last year and thenunderwent surgery on Jan. 3, the QB's early-season status for the 2023 NFL campaign remains cloudy. With that in mind, Bidwill suggested that the return of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft "is going to be earlier than this midseason, so hopefully it's toward the beginning of the season," while noting that he doesn't "want to put any specific dates" on a timetable for Arizona's franchise signal-caller. With Murray's top backup Colt McCoy dealing with an undisclosed injury that will limit him this offseason, the Cardinals could look to add QB depth as on-field activities approach. In any case, it appears as though the team (now coached by Jonathan Gannon) is proceeding as though Murray won't be ready for game action in time for Week 1.

  • Colt McCoy QB | ARI

Cardinals' Colt McCoy: Will be limited to start offseason

McCoy (undisclosed) will be limited at the start of the offseason program, according to Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

McCoy took over for an injured Kyler Murray (knee) in Week 14 of the 2022 campaign but was then forced out with a concussion in Week 15, and didn't play again down the stretch. Now the veteran QB is dealing with an unspecified injury that is slated to limit him out of the gate this offseason. Per Urban, with both Murray and McCoy recovering from injuries, the Cardinals may look to add signal caller depth ahead of the coming season.
