  • Cooper Rush QB | BAL

Ravens' Cooper Rush: On track to start preseason finale

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday that Rush will likely start Saturday's preseason game against the Commanders, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.

Harbaugh said he plans to sit his starters again versus Washington, just as Baltimore did during last Saturday's 31-13 preseason win over the Cowboys. During that contest, Rush completed 20 of 30 passes for 198 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, and across his two exhibition appearances thus far Rush has thrown three INTs. While he still appears the favorite for the No. 2 quarterback role behind Lamar Jackson over second-year pro Devin Leary, it will serve Rush well to avoid any further turnovers versus the Commanders.

  • Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Not practicing Tuesday

Sanders (oblique) isn't practicing but could return for Wednesday's session, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Sanders remains day-to-day after missing Cleveland's second preseason game due to an oblique injury, and his status remains uncertain for Saturday's exhibition finale against the Rams. In the wake of Joe Flacco being named the Browns' starter for Week 1, Stefanski said he's still not ready to name a No. 2 quarterback and that "these roles are not given out, they're earned," per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com. As such, Saturday's preseason game looks like a crucial opportunity for both Sanders and Kenny Pickett (hamstring) to get back on the practice field and compete with rookie third-rounder Dillon Gabriel for the backup gig. Veteran journeyman Tyler Huntley could also get some reps Saturday, though he has no clear path to the 53-man roster.

  • Rams' Matthew Stafford: Practicing again Tuesday

Stafford (back) is dressed for practice Tuesday, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.

Stafford is ready to log back-to-back practices after having retaken the field Monday. Head coach Sean McVay said Monday that the veteran quarterback's practice workload will be flexible, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Stafford mix in rest days as the regular season approaches. It's still encouraging to see him continue ramping up without any pauses thus far, while getting reps with Puka Nacua and new starting wideout Davante Adams. An aggravated disc in his back had forced Stafford to sit out practice since June minicamp.

  • Malik Willis QB | MIA

Packers' Malik Willis: Will play in preseason finale

Willis will suit up for Saturday's preseason finale against the Seahawks, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

Willis started the Packers' preseason win over the Colts last weekend, completing six of 14 passes for 83 yards while handling the first three possessions with Jordan Love (thumb) sidelined. While Love will get some work in during joint practices with Seattle this week, per Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site, the team's No. 1 quarterback hasn't yet been cleared for full-team reps as he recovers from last week's surgery to address an ulnar collateral ligament injury. Love is still fully expected to be ready for Week 1, so Willis will open the regular season in his usual backup role.

  • Colts' Anthony Richardson: Stuck behind Jones for Week 1

Richardson was informed Tuesday that he'll open the regular season backing up Daniel Jones, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

The former Giant didn't necessarily outplay Richardson over two preseason games, but Jones did remain healthy throughout spring practice and training camp, while the fourth overall pick in the 2023 Draft has dealt with shoulder and finger injuries. There's still a good chance Richardson eventually makes starts this season, given Jones' shaky track record with the Giants in terms of both durability and performance.

  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Colts' Daniel Jones: Named as starter

Jones has been named the starting quarterback for Week 1 against Miami, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Colts coach Shane Steichen reportedly informed Jones and Anthony Richardson of his decision Tuesday morning. There wasn't a decisive winner in the QB competition over two preseason games, but Jones seemingly made a better impression on the practice field this spring and summer. His poor track record with the Giants suggests Richardson is likely to make starts at some point this season, however.

  • Kyler Murray QB | MIN

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Improving connection with Harrison

Murray and Marvin Harrison have improved their rapport as training camp has progressed, Zach Gershman of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Most of the Cardinals' starting offense played the first two possessions of the team's preseason opener against Kansas City on Aug. 9, and Murray connected with Harrison once for 15 yards among his seven completions. During this past Saturday's exhibition loss to Denver, Murray didn't suit up, but that followed a joint practice in which the QB hooked up with Harrison on a handful of passes versus a tough Broncos secondary. Arizona didn't make any notable additions to its skill-position group this offseason, so the team is counting on Harrison to take a big leap forward in Year 2 and join tight end Trey McBride as one of Murray's top downfield options.

  • Joe Burrow QB | CIN

Bengals' Joe Burrow: Leads two TD drives

Burrow completed nine of 14 passes for 62 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 31-17 preseason win over Washington, leading the Bengals to 14 points on three drives.

Burrow curiously continued playing (and took a couple of extra hits) after Ja'Marr Chase, Chase Brown and other starters had been removed. The Bengals have scored touchdowns on four of Burrow's five drives this preseason, looking ready for a Week 1 AFC North clash at Cleveland.

  • Jayden Daniels QB | WAS

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Runs for TD on lone drive

Daniels played four snaps in Monday's preseason game against the Bengals, taking one carry for a 14-yard touchdown.

He played just one drive, which started with a 19-yard run from Deebo Samuel and a 40-yard scamper by Chris Rodriguez. Two plays later, Daniels scrambled for a touchdown on his lone dropback. That will likely be his only action this preseason, with the focus shifting to a Week 1 matchup against the Giants and wideout Terry McLaurin's unresolved contract situation.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Expected to start preseason finale

Head coach Andy Reid relayed Monday that Mahomes and other starters are expected to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Bears, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.

In a departure from Reid's usual philosophy of resting starters in preseason finales, the first-team offense is expected to see the field Friday, though Mahomes probably won't play more than a few series in this dress rehearsal. Mahomes played only three snaps in Kansas City's first exhibition and sat out the second entirely. The star quarterback's set to begin regular-season play Friday, Sept. 5 against the Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
