  • Jared Goff QB | DET

Rams' Jared Goff: May be DNP on Saturday

Coach Sean McVay said Goff may not suit up for Saturday's preseason contest against the Texans, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.

Just two days removed from stating Goff would be out there this weekend, McVay has changed his tune with potentially three starting offensive lineman out of commission. The key seems to be the health of right tackle Rob Havenstein, who recently injured his ankle. It appears that if Havenstein takes a seat, McVay won't risk Goff's health just to make sure he gets in-game reps during exhibition season. If Goff is held out, he'll enter the regular season without an offensive snap since the Rams were knocked out of last postseason Jan. 6.

  • Russell Wilson QB | NYG

Seahawks' Russell Wilson: Will play into third quarter Friday

Coach Pete Carroll said Wilson is expected to play into the third quarter of Friday's preseason contest in Minnesota, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.

Through two exhibitions, Wilson has directed the Seahawks offense to one touchdown and two field goals on seven possessions. Overall, his stat line is more or less in line with what's expected -- 17-for-26 passing for 236 yards and one touchdown versus no interceptions, plus three carries for 18 yards -- especially with Doug Baldwin unavailable due to a knee injury. Wilson is now poised to see his most significant run before the arrival of Week 1.

  • Joshua Dobbs QB | DET

Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: No go Saturday

Dobbs won't play Saturday against the Titans but is expected to start the Steelers' final preseason contest next Thursday versus the Panthers, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.

The Steelers are giving Ben Roethlisberger some obligatory possessions with Week 1 of the regular season in sight, so holding out Dobbs on Saturday indicates Landry Jones and 2018 third-round pick Mason Rudolph will split the quarterback reps that remain. Aside from Rudolph, it remains to be seen if the team will keep three QBs on the 53-man roster this season, but Dobbs has acquitted himself well in two appearances to date, completing 21 of 31 passes for 283 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions to go with seven carries for 46 yards.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Works without knee brace

Tannehill was not sporting a knee brace at practice Friday, "perhaps for (the) first time all camp," Chris Perkins of The Athletic Miami notes.

Lingering knee woes derailed Tannehill's 2017 season, but the QB appears to be approaching Week 1 in good health. It remains to be seen if shedding the brace is a temporary thing, but in any case Tannehill is gearing up for what should be his final action of the preseason Saturday against the Ravens.

  • Bryce Petty QB | MIA

Dolphins' Bryce Petty: Sitting out practice Thursday

Petty (oblique) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

Petty is battling David Fales and Brock Osweiler to be Ryan Tannehill's backup, so getting healthy for Saturday's exhibition game against the Ravens is crucial for his chances. The fourth-year pro has completed nine of 13 passes for 111 yards, one touchdown and one interception through two preseason games.

  • Lions' Matthew Stafford: Should see extended playing time Friday

Head coach Matt Patricia plans to give Stafford and the rest of the Detroit starters extended playing time in Friday's preseason game against Tampa Bay, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Patricia stopped short of stating exactly how much run he expects to give his first-team offense, but he did say he wants to get his team into "a regular-season mode," which suggests Stafford should get at least a few possessions Friday. The inability to pinpoint exactly how much Stafford will play obviously renders the quarterback a risky pick in DFS contests, but it could pay off if he stays in the game deep into the second quarter.

  • Dalton Sturm QB | DAL

    Dalton Sturm: Waived by Cowboys

The Cowboys waived Sturm on Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Sturm's waiving opened the door for the Cowboys to add safety Jeron Johnson to the mix, and he will now be free to latch on elsewhere if he goes unclaimed through waivers.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Preparing for Baltimore

Tannehill is preparing for his final action of the preseason Saturday against the Ravens, Shandel Richardson of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Tannehill has directed a conservative offense through the first two weeks of exhibition play, completing 18 of 23 passes for 132 yards without a touchdown or an interception. The Dolphins would be wise to open things up in their dress rehearsal for the regular season, perhaps letting Tannehill take some shots against a Baltimore defense that held opponents to a 72.4 passer rating last season. The cautious approach the past two weeks was partially a product of Miami's personnel, as outside receivers Kenny Stills (ankle) and DeVante Parker (hand) were limited by injuries. Parker won't play Saturday and isn't a sure thing for Week 1, but Stills finally seems to be healthy.

  • Marcus Mariota QB | WAS

Titans' Marcus Mariota: Looking quicker in drills

Mariota looks noticeably faster in practices than he did last season, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

Mariota spent last offseason rehabbing from a knee injury, then wore a brace over his leg for the entire season. He's now working without the brace in practice, allowing for a clear improvement in speed and agility. The 24-year-old should see extended playing time in Saturday's preseason game against Pittsburgh after completing six of 10 passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns over the first two weeks of the exhibition schedule. Mariota may even have his full complement of weapons available by Week 1, with Titans head coach Mike Vrabel saying Tuesday that he expects wideout Rishard Matthews (undisclosed) to begin practicing soon.

  • Jared Goff QB | DET

Rams' Jared Goff: Playing this week

Goff will play in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, Clarence Daniels of the Rams' official website reports.

Goff was held out for the first two exhibition games and probably won't get a ton of playing time in this one. The lack of in-game reps shouldn't be an issue, however, considering Goff is largely surrounded by the same supporting cast from last season, with the exception of swapping out downfield threat Sammy Watkins for Brandin Cooks.
