  • Jaguars' Gardner Minshew: Fills in admirably for Foles

Minshew stepped in for the injured Nick Foles (broken clavicle) during Sunday's 40-26 loss to the Chiefs, completing 22 of 25 passes for 275 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Foles left the contest after tossing a first-quarter TD, the victim of a hit from Kansas City's pass rush. He went to the locker room and was ruled out shortly thereafter, but the diagnosis wasn't known until post-game. Foles suffered the injury to his non-throwing shoulder, but such an injury typically requires a lengthy absence. With that knowledge, Minshew is expected to lead the Jaguars offense for the foreseeable future.

  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Tramples Dolphins in homecoming

Jackson completed 17 of 20 passes for 324 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions in the Ravens' 59-10 win over the Dolphins on Sunday. He also rushed three times for six yards and exited the game due to coach's decision after his final drive of the third quarter.

A Ravens rout was far from the most unexpected result in this season-opening contest, but the way Baltimore ultimately racked up the majority of their scoring qualifies as at least a bit of a surprise. Jackson reportedly worked diligently on his development as a passer all offseason, and the hard work paid off in spades during a performance where the second-year signal-caller racked up a career-high number of touchdown passes, despite only playing three quarters. Jackson wasted no time forging a connection with rookie Marquise Brown, hitting the speedster for 47- and 83-yard scoring connections in the first quarter alone. Jackson ultimately added scoring tosses of 33, five and one yard to Willie Snead, Miles Boykin and Patrick Ricard, respectively, capping off a complete dismantling of the overwhelmed Dolphins. Jackson was so successful through the air, his elite rushing skills weren't even needed in a game that was essentially over by the end of the first quarter. With a stellar start to his sophomore campaign now under his belt, Jackson will take on the unenviable challenge of trying to put together a fitting encore to a near-perfect showing in a Week 2 showdown with dynamic Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.

  • Trace McSorley QB | WAS

Ravens' Trace McSorley: Not playing Week 1

McSorley is inactive for Sunday's season opener against the Dolphins.

McSorley won't play a role in Baltimore's offense Week 1 with Robert Griffin set to serve as the top backup to Lamar Jackson. The rookie sixth-round pick impressed down the stretch in the preseason, but he lacks a clear path to rise above the QB3 gig.

  • Dak Prescott QB | DAL

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Playing on despite no extension

Prescott enters the Cowboys' Week 1 matchup with the Giants without a new contract extension in place but is reportedly comfortable playing the 2019 season on an expiring deal, league sources tell Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The final year of Prescott's rookie contract is worth just over $2 million, a relative pittance for a quarterback with 48 career starts under his belt. While Prescott would have liked to enter the current campaign with more long-term security, the insurance policies he has in place in addition to his multi-year endorsement deals -- valued at over $50 million -- give him a sizable nest egg to fall back on in the event he suffers a career-threatening injury or otherwise sees his market value take a hit in 2019. The Cowboys are still expected to continue negotiations with both Prescott and top receiver Amari Cooper on extensions while the season is underway.

  • Cardale Jones QB | LAC

Cardale Jones: Joins Seahawks' practice squad

Jones has been signed to the Seahawks' practice squad, Gregg Bell of The News Tribune reports.

Jones threw 11 passes as a member of the Bills back in 2016 but hasn't seen any game action since. The former Ohio State quarterback is unlikely to be promoted to the active roster barring an injury to quarterbacks Russell Wilson or Geno Smith.

  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Giants' Daniel Jones: Will open season as backup

Jones will serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Eli Manning during Sunday's season-opener against the Cowboys, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Jones' strong preseason performance earned him the clear backup gig ahead of Alex Tanney. The sixth overall pick's momentum could pave the way for him to push for a starting role should Eli Manning struggle to move the offense during the early weeks of the regular season, especially if the Giants' campaign begins to resemble last year's 5-11 season.

  • Buccaneers' Blaine Gabbert: Not expected to play Sunday

Gabbert (shoulder) is not expected to play during Sunday's regular-season opener against the 49ers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Gabbert is set for the top backup role in Tampa Bay when fully healthy, though a timetable for his recovery remains undisclosed. Ryan Griffin will back up No. 1 quarterback Jameis Winston as long as Gabbert remains sidelined.

  • Mitch Trubisky QB | TEN

Bears' Mitchell Trubisky: Underwhelms in season-opening loss

Trubisky completed 26 of 45 passes for 228 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Bears' 10-3 loss to the Packers on Thursday. He also rushed three times for 11 yards.

The final line comes off as somewhat serviceable, but it belies the disjointed nature of Trubisky's performance for the majority of the contest. The early game playcalling did the third-year signal caller no favors, either, with coach Matt Nagy dialing up multiple gadget plays that effectively prevented the passing game from getting into any sort of rhythm. However, there was plenty of blame to place squarely on Trubisky's shoulders, as he was frequently inaccurate and often hesitant in the pocket. The mobile 25-year-old failed to escape pressure on multiple occasions as well, as he was downed on five occasions overall. Trubisky ultimately capped off his disappointing night by throwing an end-zone interception just before the two-minute warning to short-circuit a 13-play, 59-yard would-be game-tying drive and then taking a sack on fourth down at his own five-yard line with 1:02 remaining. A disaster of an opening performance now behind him, Trubisky will look to dust himself off and bounce back in a tough road assignment versus the Broncos a week from Sunday.

  • Aaron Rodgers QB | PIT

Packers' Aaron Rodgers: Just enough in season-opening win

Rodgers completed 18 of 30 passes for 203 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in the Packers' 10-3 win over the Bears on Thursday. He also rushed three times for eight yards.

The combination of Rodgers' veteran acumen and a stalwart effort by the Packers' defense led to a slugfest of a Week 1 victory for Green Bay. The perennial Pro Bowler connected with eight different pass catchers on the night, and despite enduring five sacks and seeing a sixth nullified by penalty, he managed to avoid turnovers altogether when a fumble was also wiped out by a flag. Rodgers also came up with one of the few offensive highlights for either squad when he uncorked a 47-yard rainbow to Marquez Valdes-Scantling early in the second quarter, a completion he followed up with an eight-yard touchdown throw to Jimmy Graham two plays later. While the game hardly served as a ringing endorsement of the offense's overall grasp of new head coach Matt LaFleur's scheme, both the quality of the opponent and the fact it was Rodgers first full game in the system have to be taken into account. A hard-fought season-opening victory under his belt, Rodgers will look to produce a successful encore against another bitter division rival in the Minnesota Vikings a week from Sunday.

  • Buccaneers' Blaine Gabbert: No practice Thursday

Gabbert (shoulder) is not practicing Thursday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Gabbert is managing a shoulder injury and has now missed two consecutive practices. The veteran quarterback projects to serve as the top backup to Jameis Winston when healthy, though Ryan Griffin will carry that responsibility until Gabbert fully recovers.
