Walker rushed 14 times for 36 yards while catching four of five targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Seahawks. Walker was held in check by his former team after recording at least 70 rushing yards in each of his first five games with the Chiefs. The MVP of Super LX with Seattle entered play Sunday leading the league with 665 rushing yards on 6.3 yards per carry in the 2026 regular season, but he mustered just 2.6 YPC in by far his quietest performance of the season against a Seahawks defense that hasn't allowed a 100-yard rushing performance since Week 8 of the 2024 regular season. Walker has a nice bounce-back opportunity in a Week 8 road clash with the Broncos, against whom he generated 191 scrimmage yards and two total touchdowns in the season opener.

Walker rushed 24 times for 117 yards and brought in six of 10 targets for 61 yards in the Chiefs' 33-30 overtime win over the Colts on Sunday night. Walker had a tall order in front of him in terms of matching his spectacular Chiefs debut against the Broncos on Monday night, but the offseason addition was able to make up for a lower rushing total by putting together a stellar showing as a receiver that included a clutch 22-yard reception on Kansas City's game-winning drive. Walker wasn't shabby on the ground by any stretch, either, and he's quickly amassed 290 rushing yards and his 60-yard touchdown in Week 1 as a runner while also offering plenty of value as a pass catcher with a 9-79-1 line on 16 targets. Walker's workhorse usage underscores how integral he is to the team's offensive plans, making him an elite option in all formats for a Week 3 road matchup against a highly beatable Dolphins defense next Sunday.

Walker (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Pete Sweeney of The Kansas City Star reports. Walker dealt with some swelling around his ankle last week due to some cleat issues, but the star running back is back in action Wednesday with 12 days to go before the Chiefs open their season at home against the Broncos on Monday, Sept. 14. After splitting duties with Zach Charbonnet (knee) in Seattle, Walker is expected to operate as a three-down workhorse with Kansas City this season. Only fifth-round rookie Emmett Johnson and 2025 seventh-rounder Brashard Smith round out the depth chart behind Walker.

Walker played one snap on offense during the Chiefs' 20-12 preseason loss to the Chiefs on Saturday. Walker's lone snap came on the Chiefs' opening drive, and he was immediately spelled for by 2025 seventh-rounder Brashard Smith. Walker may see more action in the Chiefs' next exhibition game this coming Saturday against the Buccaneers if head coach Andy Reid opts to give the starters more run. Walker is entering his first season in Kansas City after spending the first four years of his NFL career with Seattle. He's expected to lead a Chiefs backfield that also consists of Smith, Emari Demercado and rookie fifth-rounder Emmett Johnson.

Walker wants to be a mentor to the younger players in Kansas City's running back room, Ed Easton Jr. of Chiefs Wire reports. Walker is entering his fifth NFL season and his first outside of Seattle, but in a league in which the average career lasts 3.3 years, he can be considered a veteran. The running back inked a lucrative three-year, $43.05 million contract with Kansas City in March after his Seahawks tenure culminated in a 29-13 victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl LX, a game in which Walker was named MVP. Walker turned 221 carries into 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns while also adding 31 catches for 282 yards over 17 regular-season contests in 2025. The younger backs in question include rookie fifth-round pick Emmett Johnson and second-year pro Brashard Smith. "I want them to learn quicker than I learned. I don't want there to be a drop-off at all. So, making sure those guys are good. They have been doing great," said Walker about his teammates. He's the unquestioned top option in the backfield in 2026, and he'll look to become the team's first 1,000-yard rusher since Kareem Hunt in 2017.
