  • Ja Morant PG | POR

Trail Blazers' Ja Morant: Joining crowded backcourt

Morant (elbow) is set to share the playmaking duties with Damian Lillard (Achilles) in Portland's starting backcourt after being traded from Memphis.

Chris Haynes of NBA TV reported when the trade went down that the Trail Blazers had a Morant and Lillard backcourt pairing in mind, so it'll be interesting to see how the ball-handling responsibilities are divvied up in 2026-27 should they stick to that plan. Morant endured yet another injury-plagued campaign with the Grizzlies in 2025-26, making just 20 regular-season appearances while shooting a career-low 41.0 percent from the floor and 23.5 percent from deep, and he's reached the 60-game mark just one time over the past five seasons. With plenty of questions surrounding his fit in his new digs, the dynamic 27-year-old point guard is shaping up as a difficult fantasy player to rank as a high-risk, high-reward gamble in the second half of drafts.

  • Grant Nelson PF | BKN

Nets' Grant Nelson: Signs with Brooklyn

Nelson signed a two-way contract with the Nets on Friday, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.com reports.

Nelson appeared in four regular-season games for the Nets during the 2025-26 campaign and will link up with the franchise again. He's expected to spend the bulk of his time with the club's G League affiliate to open the season.

  • JD Davison PG | ORL

Magic's JD Davison: Inks deal with Magic

Davison agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with Orlando on Thursday, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Davison was let go by Houston in early August, but he's since earned an opportunity to compete for a roster spot in training camp with the Magic. He played in 28 regular-season games a year ago with the Rockets, averaging 2.5 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 7.8 minutes per contest.

  • Wizards' Khris Middleton: Prepping for second Wizards stint

Middleton got in a workout Thursday ahead of his second season with Washington.

Middleton is in line for a different role with the new-look Wizards this time around, though. The veteran forward started each of his 34 appearances in Washington a year ago before being shipped to Dallas as part of the Anthony Davis trade, and he's positioned initially as Davis' primary backup at power forward heading into training camp. Middleton also routinely sat out one leg of back-to-back sets with the Wizards, so it remains to be seen if the team will have a similar workload management plan in store for him as well.

  • Tyrese Maxey PG | PHI

76ers' Tyrese Maxey: Could be used off ball more

Maxey could spend more time playing off the ball during the 2026-27 season, Chris Hine of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown should reduce Maxey's responsibilities as Philadelphia's primary ball-handler, potentially allowing him to generate more catch-and-shoot opportunities. Maxey converted 41.7 percent of his 3.4 catch-and-shoot three-point attempts per game during the 2025-26 regular season compared to just 33.5 percent on 5.2 pull-up attempts, so a change in shot profile could lead to improved efficiency from beyond the arc.

  • Amen Thompson SG | HOU

Rockets' Amen Thompson: Agrees to five-year extension

Thompson agreed to a five-year, $208 million extension Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

The deal will include a 10 percent trade kicker. An extension always seemed inevitable, as Thompson's two-way upside is through the roof. Across 79 regular-season appearances in 2025-26, he averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals.

  • Kyle Mangas PG | SA

Hornets' Kyle Mangas: Inks pact with Charlotte

Mangas signed a contract with the Hornets on Wednesday.

The exact terms of the deal are unclear, though it's likely a non-guaranteed deal to secure Mangas' G League rights. Over 45 appearances with the Austin Spurs in 2025-26, he averaged 17.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 combined steals-plus-blocks across 32.3 minutes per contest.

  • Dean Wade PF | PHI

76ers' Dean Wade: Ready to make defensive impact

Wade said recently he wants to play hard, bring energy and make a difference on the defensive side of the ball for the 76ers in the 2026-27 campaign, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.com reports.

"My focus during the year will be playing hard and making a difference one-on-one defensively," Wade said. "My stats may not wow a lot of people, but my energy and impact in the game will." After going undrafted in 2019 and spending the first seven years of his career with Cleveland, Wade agreed to a four-year, $38.7 million pact with Philadelphia on June 30. The club traded for Jaylen Brown the next day and signed LeBron James in late July, so Wade figures to operate off the bench behind the star forwards. The 29-year-old is known for taking on challenging defensive assignments and is a career 36.7 percent shooter from three-point range. He'll likely carve out a meaningful role for the 76ers given his versatility on the defensive end, though he shouldn't be expected to stuff the stat sheet. Over 59 regular-season appearances (38 starts) with the Cavaliers in 2025-26, he averaged 5.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 triples, 0.7 steals and 0.4 blocks in 22.3 minutes per tilt.

  • Gradey Dick SG | LAC

Clippers' Gradey Dick: Trade on track to become official

The NBA has concluded its investigation into salary cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers, and the trade sending Dick to Los Angeles is expected to be finalized in the coming days, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

Among other punishments, the Clippers were stripped of five first-round picks Wednesday. Furthermore, Leonard was fined $700,000 in restitution for improper benefits. With the findings and penalities being announced, Dick is now expected to officially join the Clippers after spending his first three seasons in the Association with Toronto. The 2023 No. 13 overall pick's production took a hit in 2025-26, during which he averaged 6.0 points and 1.9 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game across 76 regular-season appearances (one start). The Clippers are set to acquire Dick, Brandon Ingram (heel), two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a first-round pick swap in exchange for Leonard. Dick figures to provide wing depth for Los Angeles in 2026-27, though he'll likely have to compete for playing time with Kobe Sanders, Bradley Beal (hip) and Max Strus.

  • Brandon Ingram SF | LAC

Clippers' Brandon Ingram: Trade expected to become official soon

The NBA has concluded its investigation into salary cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers, and the trade sending Ingram (heel) to Los Angeles is expected to be finalized in the coming days, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

Among other punishments, the Clippers were stripped of five first-round picks Wednesday. Additionally, Leonard was fined $700,000 in restitution for improper benefits. However, now that the findings and penalties have been announced, Ingram is expected to officially be traded to the Clippers after averaging 21.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 combined steals-plus-blocks in 33.8 minutes per game across 77 regular-season appearances with the Raptors in 2025-26. He underwent surgery in early May to address ongoing right heel pain, though the issue isn't currently expected to linger into the 2026-27 campaign. The Clippers are set to acquire Ingram, Gradey Dick, two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a first-round pick swap in exchange for Leonard.
