Raptors' Jamal Shead: Agrees to 3-year extension

Shead and the Raptors agreed to a three-year, $24 million extension Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

The Raptors have now secured their backup point guard through the 2029-30 season. Last regular season, Shead averaged 6.6 points, 5.4 assists and 1.7 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per game across 82 outings (12 starts). He's poised for a similar role in 2026-27.

  • Mavericks' Morez Johnson: Dealing with lower-leg soreness

Head coach Dusty May said Wednesday that Johnson has been limited in training camp due to lower-leg soreness, Ron Harrod Jr. of DLLS Sports reports.

The Mavericks have been managing Johnson's workload ahead of his rookie season, with May noting that the 20-year-old participated in every other live session Wednesday. Additionally, May said Monday that the power forward was getting close to practicing in full. Still, the Michigan product's status will be worth monitoring ahead of Dallas' preseason opener against the Rockets on Friday, Oct. 9.

  • Knicks' Miles McBride: Reiterates desire to remain with Knicks

McBride once again expressed his desire to remain in New York moving ahead, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports.

McBride is entering the final season of a three-year, $13 million contract. While the 25-year-old stated Wednesday that he would like to end his career with the organization, that may not be possible, considering Knicks' owner James Dolan is not willing to go into the second apron. McBride has appeared in 277 regular-season games since being drafted in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft, averaging 7.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists over 18.5 minutes per contest. The front office has some work to do and might need to get creative in order to keep McBride on the roster beyond the 2026-27 campaign. There's also a chance he will be traded during the season, though that will depend on how much the front office is willing to take back in a deal.

Warriors' Gui Santos: 'In the mix' for spot in starting lineup

Santos is "in the mix" for a spot in the starting lineup, Luca Evans of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Per head coach Steve Kerr, there will be "an open competition" for the three spots in the starting lineup alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Santos is coming off his best season with the Warriors in 2025-26. The 2022 No. 55 overall pick appeared in 68 regular-season games, including 30 starts, and averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists, all career highs, across 20.5 minutes per contest. While Santos could earn an opportunity to start come opening night, that may not last, considering Kerr has been known to change things up throughout any given season. The same is true if Santos begins the 2026-27 campaign as a reserve.
