Nurse said the 76ers have had extensive discussions about managing James and Joel Embiid and are beginning to map out plans for upcoming back-to-backs and the next month of action. James is entering his 24th NBA season and will turn 42 in December, so scheduled rest could be a regular consideration as Philadelphia attempts to keep him fresh throughout the 2026-27 campaign.

  James agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with the 76ers on Friday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. After spending the last eight seasons with the Lakers, James will join the 76ers as he aims to compete for his fifth championship in the twilight of his career. The superstar forward remained highly productive in 2025-26, averaging 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 combined steals-plus-blocks across 33.2 minutes per contest in 60 regular-season games. The 41-year-old will likely see a decline in usage alongside a stacked starting five that is set to include Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe. Still, James should be a crucial piece for Philadelphia.

James scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half and finished as Los Angeles' third-leading scorer in Monday's season-ending loss. The superstar also dominated on the glass, grabbing a game- and series-best 12 rebounds en route to his third double-double of the postseason. After being swept by the Thunder in the second round of the playoffs, the 41-year-old will enter unrestricted free agency this offseason.
