Davis is healthy and participating in training camp after dealing with injury issues during the 2025-26 campaign, according to Wizards reporter Greg Finberg. • Wizards' Anthony Davis: Expected to bounce back

General manager Will Dawkins said during Thursday's press conference that Davis (finger) is "very much a motivated player" and that he expects the veteran big man to bounce back in 2026-27. Davis was limited to only 20 regular-season appearances with Dallas last season due to health issues, but Dawkins said the 10-time All-Star is currently in a "great frame of mind." Washington also views Davis as a starting-caliber center in a revamped frontcourt featuring Alex Sarr and Deandre Ayton. Davis and the Wizards reportedly postponed contract extension discussions earlier this offseason, but Dawkins declined to specifically address those talks Thursday.

The Wizards selected AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, adding another high-usage scorer to the roster alongside Davis (finger). Davis remains a cornerstone of Washington's frontcourt and should be the team's primary interior presence when he makes his Wizards debut. However, playing with Dybantsa and Trae Young could slightly reduce Davis' offensive workload while improving the overall quality of his scoring opportunities. Assuming he stays healthy, and that's a big assumption, Davis still projects as one of the league's most productive fantasy big men.

Head coach Brian Keefe said Tuesday that Davis (finger) is not expected to play again this season, Chase Hughes of Monumental Sports Network reports. Davis hasn't played since Jan. 8 due to ligament damage in his left hand. Hughes relayed that the team tried to ramp him up but ultimately ran out of time. The star big man was recently cleared to take light contact and will continue rehabbing in the offseason ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. He'll finish this season with averages of 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 steals per game across 20 regular-season appearances with the Mavericks before being traded to the Wizards on Feb. 4.

• Wizards' Anthony Davis: Cleared for light contact

  03/31/2026 • By RotoWire

Davis (finger) is healing on schedule and has been cleared for light contact work, though he remains without a timetable for a return, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reports. Davis hasn't played since Jan. 8 due to ligament damage in his left hand and can be considered week-to-week until the Wizards offer another update on his progress. However, with the team holding a 17-58 record, it wouldn't be surprising if the star big man doesn't return this season.
