Francisco Alvarez C | NYM
Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Exits rehab game
Alvarez was removed from a rehab game at Triple-A Syracuse after getting hit on the left hand by a pitch, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.
The good news is that Alvarez was hit on the opposite hand from his right thumb, which has kept him on the injured list since last Tuesday. However, the young backstop's latest injury may push his return to New York back a few days. An updated timeline should come once the team gets a chance to examine him further.

Jason Foley RP | DET
Tigers' Jason Foley: Begins throwing again
Foley (shoulder) initiated a throwing progression Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Foley isn't in line to pitch again this season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in May, but his ability to start playing catch again could put him in position to have something resembling a normal offseason. If Foley is free of any restrictions to begin spring training, he'll get the chance to compete for a role in the Detroit bullpen in 2026. After saving 28 games for the Tigers in 2024, Foley was optioned to Triple-A Toledo prior to this season following a rough showing in spring training. He had been pitching well at Toledo before straining his shoulder and requiring the season-ending procedure.

Yu Darvish SP | SD
Padres' Yu Darvish: Falls to Mariners
Darvish (3-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.
Darvish was decent early, holding Seattle to a run on two hits through his first two innings. However, he'd stumble in the fourth, giving up a three-run homer to Eugenio Suarez that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 defeat. Darvish had gone five starts without a loss prior to Wednesday, posting a 3.00 ERA with an impressive 0.67 WHIP in that span (27 innings). Overall, his ERA sits at 5.66 with a 1.11 WHIP and 42:15 K:BB through 10 starts (47.2 innings) this season. Darvish is currently slated to face the Orioles at home in his next outing.

Paul Sewald RP | DET
Tigers' Paul Sewald: Completes another side session
Sewald (shoulder) threw his second bullpen session Tuesday since resuming his throwing program earlier this month, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Sewald threw all fastballs in his first side session over the weekend, but he may have been able to incorporate some breaking pitches into Tuesday's workout. The right-hander is expected to complete at least a couple more bullpen sessions before he advances to facing hitters, and eventually, returns from the 60-day injured list in September. Sewald has yet to make his Tigers debut after he was initially placed on the Guardians' IL on July 15 due to a right shoulder strain before being traded to Detroit just over two weeks later.

Andres Munoz RP | SEA
Mariners' Andres Munoz: Hangs on for 31st save
Munoz earned the save in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Padres, allowing a run on two hits in the ninth inning.
Munoz allowed a run on a pair of doubles in the ninth inning, though he managed to strand the tying run on third base to pick up his 31st save this year. While Munoz has converted 10 straight save chances, he's been a bit shaky of late, allowing a run in three of his last four appearances. Overall, the right-hander sports a 1.56 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP and 66:24 K:BB across 52 innings this season.

Jose Urquidy SP | DET
Tigers' Jose Urquidy: Works two innings in rehab outing
Urquidy (elbow) struck out one batter and allowed two earned runs on two hits and one walk over two innings in his most recent rehab appearance for Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
Urquidy is expected to get the chance to compete for a rotation spot next spring if Detroit exercises his $4 million team option for 2026, but if the right-hander makes it back from the 60-day injured list this season, he'll be joining the Tigers in a relief role. Since beginning his rehab assignment Aug. 3, Urquidy -- who is working his way back from June 2024 Tommy John surgery -- has been limited to one- or two-inning appearances between stops with Toledo and Single-A Lakeland, and Sunday marked the first time that he had worked out of the bullpen. Urquidy's 30-day rehab window will come to an end next week, though the Tigers would have the option to extend his assignment another 10 days if they don't feel he's ready to join the 28-man active roster.

Bryan Woo SP | SEA
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Up to 12 wins
Woo (12-7) earned the win Wednesday over the Padres, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.
Woo held San Diego scoreless through five innings before giving up a pair of runs in the sixth, though the Mariners would manage to hang on for a 4-3 win, giving the right-hander his fourth victory in his last five outings. Despite the win, Woo failed to make it through six innings for the first time in 26 starts this season -- the right-hander's streak of 25 straight starts of six-plus innings marked a Seattle franchise record. Overall, Woo sports a 2.95 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP and 166:31 K:BB across 164.2 innings. Woo's currently scheduled to face the Rays on the road his next time out.

Javier Assad SP | CHC
Cubs' Javier Assad: Back in majors
The Cubs recalled Assad from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Assad made a spot start for the Cubs on Saturday, allowing one earned run in six innings against the Angels, and he'll now head back to the Windy City for a few more starts with Jameson Taillon (groin) moving to the injured list. The Cubs will plug Assad right into Taillon's place in the rotation, lining up the 28-year-old righty to start Saturday against the Rockies.

Parker Meadows CF | DET
Tigers' Parker Meadows: Starting up rehab assignment
Meadows (quadriceps) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
The Tigers were satisfied with how Meadows' strained right quad held up Tuesday during a running workout, which was the final hurdle he needed to clear before heading out on a rehab assignment. He'll likely remain with Toledo through the weekend before Detroit potentially brings Meadows back from the injured list when the active roster expands to 28 men Monday. Before landing on the IL on July 28, Meadows had slashed .200/.270/.296 with two home runs and three stolen bases over 137 plate appearances.

Jameson Taillon SP | CHC
Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Lands on injured list
The Cubs placed Taillon on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Monday, with a left groin injury, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Taillon's groin forced him to make an early exit from his start Sunday after five innings, and it will now also prevent him from making another start for at least another couple of weeks. Javier Assad was recalled from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move to fill the void in Chicago's rotation, and he'll take the mound to begin Saturday's contest in Colorado.
