  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Yankees' Max Fried: Cruises to 14th win

Fried (14-5) picked up the win in Wednesday's 11-2 rout of the Nationals, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out six.

A nine-run third inning by the Yankees put the game well out of reach, and Fried lost his shutout bid on an RBI single by CJ Abrams in the sixth. He racked up 32 called or swinging strikes among his 94 pitches (61 total strikes) en route to his 16th quality start of the season, and Fried will take a 3.06 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 154:42 K:BB over 162 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Houston.

  • Alex Call LF | LAD

Dodgers' Alex Call: Nursing back injury

Manager Dave Roberts said that Call is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds due to a lower-back injury, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Call has been filling the small side of a platoon in left field but won't start against lefty Nick Lodolo on Wednesday due to the injury, which he sustained during Tuesday's 6-3 win. The Dodgers have a scheduled day off Thursday and are expected to face Diamondbacks righty Zac Gallen on Friday, so Call should have a couple days to recover before the next time Los Angeles faces a left-handed starting pitcher.

  • Juan Morillo RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Juan Morillo: Optioned to Reno

The Diamondbacks optioned Morillo to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Morillo gave up a run on one hit and two walks without recording an out in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. His latest appearance elevated his ERA to 4.55 to go with his 1.77 WHIP through 31.2 innings with the D-backs, and he'll now aim to get back on track in the minors. Taylor Rashi was promoted from Reno to take Morillo's place in Arizona's bullpen.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Swats first homer of year

Chaparro went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 11-2 loss to the Yankees.

Getting the start at first base and batting sixth against southpaw Max Fried, Chaparro didn't have much success at the plate until the ninth inning, when he crushed a hanging curve from Paul Blackburn 411 feet over the left-field fence. It was Chaparro's first homer in 10 games with the Nationals this season, and since being called back up in mid-August, the 26-year-old has gone 4-for-13 (.308) with a double, a homer and a 3:4 BB:K, primarily as a short-side platoon option. Wednesday's long ball off a right-hander might encourage interim manager Miguel Cairo to expand Chaparro's role over the final weeks of the season.

  • Cade Cavalli SP | WAS

Nationals' Cade Cavalli: Hammered by Yanks

Cavalli (1-1) took the loss Wednesday as the Nationals were routed 11-2 by the Yankees, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits -- including four home runs -- and a walk over 2.1 innings. He struck out four.

The home squad sent 15 men to the plate in a nine-run third inning that saw Cavalli serve up long balls to Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Ryan McMahon before he got the hook, after Trent Grisham had given New York a 1-0 lead with a solo shot back in the first frame. Cavalli had been pitching well since joining the big-league rotation for Washington in early August, but Wednesday's disastrous outing sent his ERA soaring from 2.82 to 5.11. The right-hander will look to rebound in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Marlins.

  • Jack Suwinski CF | PIT

Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Heading to bench Wednesday

Suwinski is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Suwinski had started in each of the last three games and in six of the Pirates' previous seven games, but he's likely to serve as more of a fourth outfielder for Pittsburgh heading into the final month of the season after center fielder Oneil Cruz returned from the injured list Tuesday. However, with the Pirates handing more frequent days off to veterans Andrew McCutchen and Tommy Pham down the stretch, Suwinski could still be in store for a handful of starts per week.

  • Jacob Wilson SS | ATH

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Resting up Wednesday

Wilson isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Detroit.

Wilson has gone 6-for-20 with a pair of homers, eight RBI and four runs scored in five games since his return from the injured list. The A's will give him a chance to rest Wednesday while Darell Hernaiz moves to shortstop, giving Zack Gelof a start at the keystone.

  • Caleb Boushley RP | TEX

Rangers' Caleb Boushley: Back in MLB

The Rangers recalled Boushley from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old will claim the roster spot vacated by Nathan Eovaldi, who landed on the injured list Wednesday with a season-ending shoulder injury. Boushley has turned in a 5.22 ERA through 39.2 innings with the Rangers despite owning a 1.08 ERA in Triple-A, and he'll presumably take on a multi-inning role out of the bullpen now that he's back in Arlington.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Sitting with stinger

Freeman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds due to a stinger, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The veteran first baseman presumably suffered or aggravated the injury during Tuesday's contest, during which he went 1-for-4 with a double. Freeman is expected to rejoin the starting nine Friday versus the Diamondbacks following Thursday's team off day.

  • Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX

Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Officially placed on injured list

The Rangers placed Eovaldi (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Sunday.

Eovaldi is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025 campaign due to a rotator cuff strain, cutting short what had been a phenomenal season with a 1.73 ERA and 0.85 WHIP through 130 innings (22 starts). Caleb Boushley will join the Rangers' bullpen and take Eovaldi's place on the active roster; meanwhile, Jacob Latz will claim the fifth spot in the rotation.
