  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

White Sox's Martin Perez: Not expected to return this season

Perez (elbow) is not expected to return this season, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

The specifics on Perez's left elbow injury remain scarce, with Rogers reporting only that the southpaw will not undergo Tommy John surgery. However, Rogers adds that Perez will not throw again until September, at the earliest, and after that long of a layoff he will not have time to make it back on a major-league mound in 2025. Perez will become a free agent this offseason after a $10 million mutual option for 2026 is officially declined.

  • Keider Montero SP | DET

Tigers' Keider Montero: Optioned to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Montero to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Montero made two starts during his time in the majors, allowing nine runs (eight earned) with an 11:5 K:BB over 9.1 innings. He's being replaced on the roster by reliever Chase Lee.

  • Brayan Bello SP | BOS

Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Reinstated for season debut

The Red Sox activated Bello (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Mariners.

The right-hander has been sidelined by a shoulder strain since mid-February but is ready to make his 2025 debut after making four rehab starts in the minor leagues. Bello didn't pitch particularly well in those outings with a 7.07 ERA, though his 21:4 K:BB is more encouraging. The 25-year-old topped out at 71 pitches during the rehab stint, so he'll likely face some workload limitations in his first couple starts with the big club.

  • Trevor Rogers SP | BAL

Orioles' Trevor Rogers: Cleared for rehab assignment

Rogers (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Chesapeake on Wednesday.

Rogers is finally ready to pitch in a game setting after recovering from a right knee subluxation he suffered back in January. The left-hander will require a lengthy rehab assignment and isn't a given to be added to the big-league roster once he's off the 15-day injured list.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Orioles' Kyle Gibson: Covers five innings in High-A start

Gibson struck out five and allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks over five innings Sunday in his start with High-A Aberdeen.

Due to his late signing with the Orioles, Gibson didn't appear in any Grapefruit League games and was optioned to the minors to start the season so that he could continue building up. He's now made three starts between stops with Triple-A Norfolk and Aberdeen, accruing a 3.75 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB in 12 innings. After tossing 78 pitches (51 strikes) in his latest start with Aberdeen, Gibson may need just one more start in the minors before the Orioles deem him ready to join the big-league rotation.

  • Luis De Leon SP | BAL

Orioles' Luis De Leon: On IL at High-A

High-A Aberdeen placed De Leon on the 7-day injured list April 4 with an undisclosed injury.

De Leon, a 6-foot-3 southpaw who turned 22 earlier in April, logged a 5.73 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 65:42 K:BB in 59.2 innings at High-A last season.

  • Brandon Young SP | BAL

Orioles' Brandon Young: Back in big leagues

The Orioles recalled Young from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.

The Orioles have an opening in their rotation this weekend in Detroit that could be filled by Young, if the club wants to give Kyle Gibson more time in the minors to get stretched out before making his 2025 debut. The right-handed Young yielded three runs over four innings against the Reds this past weekend in his major-league debut.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Falters in fifth frame Monday

Gausman (2-2) took the loss against Houston on Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six batters over six innings.

Gausman held Houston scoreless through four innings, but Atlanta got to him for four runs in the fifth. That was more than enough to send the veteran righty to his second loss, as Astros ace Hunter Brown dominated Toronto's lineup. Gausman still holds a solid 3.16 ERA on the campaign, and Monday marked the first time in 2025 that he's given up more than three runs in an outing. He'll look to get back in the win column his next time out, though he's projected for a tough matchup on the road against the Yankees this weekend.

  • Hunter Brown SP | HOU

Astros' Hunter Brown: Continues dominant campaign

Brown (3-1) earned the win over Toronto on Monday, pitching seven scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and one walk while striking out nine batters.

That's now five quality starts in five outings this season for Brown, who recorded perhaps his best start of 2025 so far Monday. Both the seven innings and nine punchouts were season-best marks for the right-hander, and he pitched his third straight scoreless outing while extending his scoreless innings streak to 24 frames. It's too early in the campaign to be prognosticating end-of-season awards, but Brown certainly has the look of a Cy Young contender considering his dominance so far. He ranks sixth among qualified pitchers with a 1.16 ERA and first with a 0.74 WHIP while registering a 31:6 K:BB through 31 innings.

  • Keider Montero SP | DET

Tigers' Keider Montero: Struggles in no-decision

Montero did not factor into the decision in Monday's 6-4 win over the Padres, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks over 1.1 innings. He struck out three.

Montero slogged through this 91-pitch performance that saw him match a career worst in issuing four free passes. The San Diego lineup set the tone in the first inning, generating a run on two hits and a walk, as Montero couldn't manage a clean inning. The 24-year-old has pitched to a 7.71 ERA and 1.93 WHIP while allowing four homers across 9.1 innings. After making two starts, he looks bound for the minors again as Montero received the likely temporary promotion to give the Detroit rotation extra rest.
