Matt Carpenter DH | STL
Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Takes seat Tuesday
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Tommy Edman will move from right field to second base while Carpenter heads to the bench for only the second time in seven games. With Tyler O'Neill (groin) and Harrison Bader (forearm) both on the injured list, Edman will be needed in the outfield more frequently in the short term, so Carpenter should see steady work at second base. The veteran is sitting on a .419 OPS and 35.9 percent strikeout rate through 39 plate appearances, but a 26.3 percent barrel rate and 68.4 percent hard-hit rate -- both which rank in the top one percent of all players -- suggest that better days could be ahead for Carpenter.

Brent Rooker DH | ATH
Twins' Brent Rooker: Activated from IL
Rooker (neck) was activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's game in Oakland, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
The timing worked out well for Rooker, who had been traveling with the team, as Max Kepler was placed on the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move, so there should be some playing time available in the short term. Alex Kirilloff was not an option to be promoted, as he is at the team's alternate training site in St. Paul and the team didn't want to fly players to the West Coast commercially during the pandemic. Rooker has six strikeouts in 11 at-bats.

Kyle Lewis DH | ARI
Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Hitting second in 2021 debut
Lewis (knee) will start in center field and bat second Tuesday against the Dodgers, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
Ty France has served as the No. 2 hitter in each of Seattle's first 17 games, but since he'll be on the bench Tuesday while he manages a bruised forearm, the Mariners will turn to the freshly activated Lewis to bat out of the two hole. Lewis most frequently batted third in 2020, so he'll presumably slide down a spot in the order when France is cleared to return to action.

Kyle Lewis DH | ARI
Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Activated for season debut
Lewis (knee) was activated from the injured list as expected Tuesday and will make his season debut against the Dodgers.
Lewis has been out with a knee injury since he collided with the outfield wall in late March. He should occupy an everyday role in center field and in the heart of the Mariners' order now that he's ready to go. Braden Bishop was optioned in a corresponding move.

Mike Ford DH | MIN
Yankees' Mike Ford: Joins big-league roster
Ford was recalled by the Yankees on Tuesday.
The Yankees need another first baseman due to Luke Voit's knee injury and Jay Bruce's retirement. Ford has been decent enough in limited action at the highest level, but the fact that the Yankees turned first to Bruce and not to him indicates they don't think too highly of him. He looked good in 50 games in 2019 before struggling significantly in 29 games last year, giving him a career .217/.308/.461 slash line with 14 homers in 79 contests.

Bryce Harper 1B | PHI
Phillies' Bryce Harper: Three more hits Monday
Harper went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's 2-0 loss to the Giants.
All three knocks were singles, but Harper couldn't convert them into further production aside from his first steal of the year, as the rest of the Phillies' lineup managed only four hits in total. Nonetheless, Harper is off to a fast start in 2021, slashing .327/.459/.571 through 15 games with three homers, seven RBI and nine runs.

Brandon Belt DH | TOR
Giants' Brandon Belt: Supplies only offense in win
Belt went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 2-0 win over the Phillies.
A Chase Anderson curveball caught too much of the plate in the third inning, and Belt launched it over the fence in right field -- the only real mistake made by a pitcher on either squad all night. The veteran first baseman has three home runs on the year, all of which have come in the last eight games as he climbs out of an early season hole, but his .211/.318/.500 slash line shows he still has more work to do.

J.D. Martinez DH | NYM
Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Belts sixth homer
Martinez went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored Monday against the White Sox.
Martinez clubbed a solo homer over the fence in left field during the second inning, increasing Boston's lead to six. He would later tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single. The 33-year-old has pieced together a modest four-game hitting streak and is slashing .383/.439/.800 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 15 contests this season.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: To be held around 75 pitches
Ohtani (blister) will be limited to around 75 pitches during Tuesday's start against the Rangers, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
As expected, Ohtani will be somewhat limited in just his second start of the season. Manager Joe Maddon also stated that Ohtani won't be hitting Tuesday, "just in case something went awry early and we had to scramble with a short bench," per Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.
