  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Slugs grand slam

Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a grand slam Saturday against the Twins.

Alvarez came to the plate with the bases loaded in the third inning and took Joe Ryan deep to tally his third homer of the season. He now has at least one hit in seven of eight games on the campaign and has also racked up six runs scored and 14 RBI. Alvarez's injury scare during spring training hasn't affected his performance, and he should be among the elite hitters in the league assuming he can remain healthy.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Smacks first homer of 2023

Buxton went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 9-6 victory over the Astros.

Buxton got off the home run schneid with his eighth-inning homer, his first of the season, clocked at 110.8 mph off the bat. The 29-year-old is now 10-for-30 with three RBI and six runs scored through seven games. The Twins are having Buxton serve as the DH in an effort to keep him healthy, and he is back in the leadoff spot for Minnesota, replacing Max Kepler (knee), after opening the season in the three hole.

  • Kyle Lewis DH | ARI

Diamondbacks' Kyle Lewis: Heads to IL with illness

The Diamondbacks placed Lewis on the 10-day injured list Saturday with an undisclosed illness.

The Diamondbacks haven't disclosed anything about Lewis other than the fact that it's an illness that sends him to the injured list. The club recalled Pavin Smith from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Over 18 plate appearances, Lewis has slashed .167/.167/.389 with a home run and two RBI over six games.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Royals' Franmil Reyes: Picks up second homer

Reyes went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-5 victory over San Francisco.

Reyes connected on a solo homer off Ross Stripling in the seventh inning to make it 5-2 Giants. It's the second homer of the season for Reyes. After struggling mightily in 2022 for the Guardians and Cubs, Reyes has hit just .118 with six strikeouts in his first 20 plate appearances.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rangers' Brad Miller: Not in Saturday's lineup

Miller is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Miller is 3-for-15 with a home run and two RBI through five games this season and will take a seat Saturday with southpaw Justin Steele pitching for Chicago. Mitch Garver will bat seventh as the designated hitter.

  • Mets' Daniel Vogelbach: Sitting versus lefty

Vogelbach is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Marlins.

Vogelbach is 3-for-13 with a double, an RBI and four walks to begin the season, and he'll head to the bench Saturday with lefty Trevor Rogers pitching for Miami. Pete Alonso will serve as the designated hitter while Mark Canha fills in to play first base.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Out of Saturday's lineup

Cabrera is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox.

Cabrera is 3-for-17 with a double, two walks and two RBI through five games and will take a seat for Saturday's contest. Kerry Carpenter will serve as the designated hitter while Matt Vierling starts in right field.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Clubs second homer

Ozuna went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Padres.

The veteran slugger took Nick Martinez deep in the third inning to get Atlanta on the board. Ozuna has had a tough start to the season, managing only two hits in 21 at-bats, but both of them have left the yard. It's tough to get unluckier than a .000 BABIP, and his 3:6 BB:K doesn't suggest he's having issues making contact, so his .095 batting average should begin to rise soon enough.

  • Darin Ruf DH | MIL

Giants' Darin Ruf: Back with San Francisco

Ruf signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Saturday, Jayson Stark of The Athletic reports.

The 36-year-old returns to the organization less than a year after the club traded him to the Mets. Ruf had a .413 OPS in 29 games for New York last season and then hit .167 during spring training, prompting the team not to include him on the Opening Day roster. The Giants currently have Mitch Haniger (back/oblique) and Austin Slater (hamstring) on the injured list, which could open the door for Ruf to make his way to the majors, depending how long the pair is sidelined.

  • Joey Meneses DH | NYM

Nationals' Joey Meneses: Reaches four times

Meneses went 2-for-3 with one double and a run scored in Friday's 10-5 win over Colorado. He also walked twice.

Meneses got off to a terrible start to begin the season, and even with the four-reach game the right-hander hitter is slashing just .219/.286/.281. Based on what he showed at the end of 2022 and his success in events like the World Baseball Classic, it's very likely those numbers see a significant bump in the coming weeks.
