  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: In lineup Friday

Ohtani (hand) is serving as the designated hitter and batting second Friday versus the Mariners.

Ohtani was pulled from his start Thursday night against Seattle due to renewed cramping in his right hand, but the issue doesn't seem to affect him when he hits. It's unclear when he might take the mound again, but the two-way superstar can keep padding his terrific offensive totals in the meantime.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Out due to sore heel

Jimenez is out of the lineup Friday at Cleveland due to a sore heel, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

This may be something of a lingering issue for Jimenez, who was limited to pinch-hitting duties in Thursday's series finale against the Rangers. Oscar Colas is serving as Chicago's designated hitter Friday against the Guardians and Andrew Benintendi, Luis Robert and Trayce Thompson will start across the outfield.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Lands on IL with tight hamstring

Buxton was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Aug. 2, with right hamstring tightness, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

This is the second IL stint of the year for Buxton, who missed 10 days in June because of a left rib contusion. Jordan Luplow, who was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays on Friday, will fill the vacant spot on the Twins' active major-league roster.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Remains sidelined Friday

Buxton (hamstring) is again absent from the lineup Friday versus Arizona.

Buxton missed the final two games of the Twins' three-game series in St. Louis because of right hamstring tightness and he'll remain on the bench as Minnesota opens a three-game weekend set against the visiting Diamondbacks. Matt Wallner is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Blue Jays' Brandon Belt: On bench versus lefty

Belt is absent from the lineup Friday against the Red Sox.

Alejandro Kirk will serve as the Blue Jays' designated hitter and Danny Jansen will do the catching with left-hander James Paxton on the bump for Boston. Belt continues to sit against most southpaws.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Not in lineup Friday

Jimenez remains out of the lineup Friday at Cleveland.

Jimenez was also on the bench for Thursday's series finale against the Rangers, though he did appear as a pinch hitter. Oscar Colas is filling the DH role for the White Sox on Friday as Andrew Benintendi, Luis Robert and Trayce Thompson start across the outfield.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Red Sox's Justin Turner: Out again Friday

Turner (heel) is out of the lineup again Friday versus the Blue Jays.

Turner has been sidelined since Monday because of a lingering left heel contusion. Luis Urias will start at second base and bat eighth in his Red Sox debut against the Jays and right-hander Alek Manoah.

  • Nick Solak 1B | PIT

Tigers' Nick Solak: Designated for assignment

Solak was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Friday.

This move frees up a 40-man roster spot for lefty reliever Andrew Vasquez, who was claimed off waivers from the Phillies. Solak appeared in only one major-league game during his two-month stay in the Tigers organization and was slashing .179/.328/.283 through 131 plate appearances with Triple-A Toledo.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Takes seat Friday

Morel is out of the lineup Friday against Atlanta.

Morel will get a breather after starting six straight games between DH and left field. The high-energy 24-year-old is slashing .350/.409/.600 with two homers, four doubles, 10 RBI, two stolen bases and nine runs scored over his last 10 games.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Homers again Thursday

Stanton went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 4-3 victory over the Astros.

Stanton opened the scoring with a two-run, 430-foot blast off Cristian Javier in the first inning. It's the 33-year-old slugger's second homer in as many days and his ninth in his last 20 contests. Stanton is still slashing just .204/.276/.458, though he's added 16 homers, 41 RBI and 28 runs scored across 239 plate appearances this season.
