  • Travis d'Arnaud dealing with concussion-related symptoms

Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud was dealing with some concussion-related symptoms after being hit by a backswing Tuesday, prompting the team to put him through concussion tests.

"He's had some symptoms, so the concern is that maybe it's concussion-related," general manager Sandy Alderson told MLB.com Wednesday. "We'll run the tests and see where he's at."

  • Hector Sanchez gets a crack at first base

The Giants have proven willing to experiment with the first base position in recent years, and catcher Hector Sanchez was just the latest unfamiliar player to get a shot at the position. Sanchez  started at first base Tuesday against the Braves.

"He has pretty good hands and I think he can handle it," manager Bruce Bochy told MLB.com "We'll have to see how it goes. With [Brandon] Belt out, we're going to get a little creative here."

Of course, Sanchez's defensive acumen at a position he has played just once before, in a spring training game, isn't the reason he is in the lineup. Sanchez is hitting .353 over the last 10 games, and ranks fifth on the team with 16 RBI in just 64 trips to the plate.

"That's why he's out there today," Bochy said. "He's been driving in some key runs. You try to find a way to get that bat in the lineup."

  • Salvador Perez likely to get Sunday off to rest calf

Royals catcher Salvador Perez will likely be given Sunday off to rest his sore calf, MLB.com reports.

"Yes, he'll probably get the day off," manager Ned Yost said Saturday. "It's not the shin, it's the calf. He's got a real big bruise on it and all that blood's draining down toward his ankle. It's still sore ...  The more running he does, the more it hurts. He starts off the day feeling pretty good but at the end of the day it's sore, but playable."

Perez was struck on the injured calf by a foul ball during an at-bat on May 2. He has hit .260/.319/.425 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 127 at-bats.
