Astros first baseman Chris Carter had a big game on Saturday. Carter went 2 for 4 with a double and a solo home run, but the Astros would suffer a 9-6 loss to the Yankees.

Carter hit an RBI double in the second inning, and then added a solo shot in the fourth. The home run was his 13th of the year, 

Over his last 10 games following Saturday's performance Carter is batting a lowly .195, but has two home runs in that span.

The Marlins will start Jeff Baker at first base in Saturday's game, in place of Justin Bour.

Bour has started 30 games at first this season, but Baker has gotten the call three times in the last four games. 

Baker will be starting his twelfth game at first base this year. He'll bat fifth in the lineup.  

Jon Singleton is making his 2015 debut in the Astros starting lineup on Saturday. 

Singleton, called up on Friday, is in the lineup at designated hitter, batting seventh. 

Regular DH Evan Gattis will play the field on Saturday, getting his second start of the season in left field and first since April 28. 

Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard will not be in the lineup against the Nationals on Saturday.

Howard will sit out because left-handed pitcher Gio Gonzalez will take the mound for the Nationals. This season, Howard is hitting a pedestrian .138 with eight hits in 58 at-bats against left-handed pitchers.

White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu hit a go-ahead home run in the third inning of Friday's loss to Detroit.

Abreu went 1 for 4 with his 13th home run and 41st RBI. He went deep for the first time since June 12. His last RBI came a day after that.

Rays shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera went 3 for 4 in Friday's loss to Boston. 

Cabrera had his second multi-hit game in the last three. He's 5 for 13 over that span. 

Cabrera added a double, his 10th of the year. 

Indians first baseman Carlos Santana hit a game-tying home run in the eighth inning of Friday's loss to Baltimore. 

Santana went 1 for 4, hitting his ninth home run of the year and driving in his 36th run. 

Santana has three RBI in the last two games after snapping a seven-game RBI drought. 

The Astros have announced that they have promoted still-promising prospect Jon Singleton from Triple-A Fresno, per Fox Sports.

General manager Jeff Luhnow stated that it will be up to A.J. Hinch to ultimately decide how Singleton is used, but that he could play some first base and designated hitter.

The 23-year-old Singleton, who batted just .168 in 310 at-bats last season with Houston, has again been mashing in the minors with a slash line of .280/.387/.553 and 17 home runs in 264 at-bats.

Consistent playing time seems to be agreeing with Orioles right fielder Chris Parmelee, who is making the most of his opportunity.

Parmelee has started six of the last eight games. He has hit safely in all but one in establishing a strong slash line of .313/.371/.750. He slammed three home runs in his first two games this season and has 10 RBI and seven runs in nine games.

Mets manager Terry Collins acknowledged Thursday that shortstop Wilmer Flores could move to second base once Daniel Murphy returns from the disabled list, as Ruben Tejada -- who has been playing second and third base with Murphy and David Wright on the disabled list -- would take over at shortstop.

Flores seems just fine with moving to second base.

"I don't mind," Flores told NJ Advance Media. "As long as I'm in the lineup. That's all that matters.

"I feel good in both positions. I feel like I can play. I'll just play anywhere they want me to."
