  • Astros could be active at trade deadline

    The Astros are looking to trade DH Chris Carter, according to the New York Post. Carter is batting .212 with 111 strikeouts in 92 games, but he has 21 homers and is slugging .474.

    The Post reports the Astros would also be willing to listen to trade offers for starting pitchers Jarred Cosart, Dallas Keuchel and Collin McHugh.

    Illness costs Chris Carter lineup spot against Athletics

    Astros outfielder Chris Carter, who has slumped a bit after a hot streak, has been scratched from the Wednesday afternoon lineup against visiting Oakland with an illness.

    Carter has one hit in his last 12 at-bats, is on a roll in general with two home runs and nine RBI in his last nine games.

    No slowing down for Jose Abreu as July nears end

    White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu continued his hot hitting Tuesday, in an 11-4 win over the Tigers.

    Abreu drove in four runs in the massive performance, as he strung together his third multi-hit effort in the last four games. He went 3 for 4 with a two-run home run, and then followed that up with a two-run double in the eighth inning. He also scored twice in the blowout win.

    Abreu has been red-hot for the last two months, and has taken his game to another level. He is hitting .359/.412/.652 in the month of July, raising his season batter average to .299.

    Chris Carter launches three-run blast in win over A's

    Astros designated hitter Chris Carter made his presence felt with just one swing of the bat Monday night at home against the A's.

    Carter smacked a three-run home run in the third inning to give his team an early lead. He finished 1 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBI in a 7-3 victory. He owns a .214/.292/.479 slash line with 21 homers and 49 RBI in 309 at-bats.

  • Report: Blue Jays targeting Asdrubal Cabrera

    Indians veteran shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera is on the radar of the Blue Jays as the trading deadline approaches, per Fox Sports. He would play second base, a spot with which he became familiar early in his career, as Jose Reyes is locked in at shortstop.

    Cleveland has shown no inclination to sign Cabrera with prized prospect Francisco Lindor on the way. Lindor has been raking at Triple-A Columbus after his recent promotion. Cabrera has raised his trade value by hitting well lately, but he is tied for the American League lead in errors with 14 and has limited range.

    Carlos Santana leaves the yard twice in win over Royals

    Indians first baseman Carlos Santana reached base four times and became the first player to homer five times in a series this season, leading his team to a 10-3 win over the Royals in Kansas City.

    Santana launched a pair of two-run home runs -- one in the fifth and then again in the ninth. He added a single and finished 3 for 3 with two runs scored and four RBI. He owns a .232/.371/.456 slash line with 20 homers and 50 RBI in 340 at-bats. He also leads the American League with 72 walks.

  • Asdrubal Cabrera back from five-game absence

    Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera made it back into the starting lineup Sunday against the Royals after missing five games due to a back injury. Cabrera is batting .254 with one home run and six RBI in 17 July games.

    Carlos Santana homers again Saturday

    Indians first baseman Carlos Santana went 2 for 4 with a walk, a double and a solo home run in his team's 7-5 loss to the Royals Saturday.

    Santana has now collected three home runs in his last two games, and he's also 11 for 20 with four home runs and six RBI in his last five games. The hot streak gives him a .226/.363/.433 line with 18 home runs and 46 RBI in 337 at-bats.

  • Asdrubal Cabrera a no-go again vs. Kansas City

    Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was held out of the starting lineup Saturday against the Royals, as he continues to work his way back from a back injury. Cabrera left Monday's game and has not been able to play as a result of the injury. He is hitting .247/.308/.392 over 365 at-bats.

    Carlos Santana belts two home runs Friday

    Indians third baseman Carlos Santana hit two home runs Friday against the Royals. 

    Santana struck twice against Yordano Ventura. In the fourth inning, Santana crushed a 97 mph fastball out to right center for a solo shot. He did one better in his next at-bat, belting a 100 mph fastball out to right for a two-run shot. He finished 2 for 3, with two runs scored and three RBI.
