  Wood is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies. After spending a month on the IL due to an oblique injury, Wood returned on Sept. 2 and started the past 10 contests. He's gone 11-for-37 (.297 average) with three doubles, four steals, two RBI and two runs since being activated, but he has seen his home-run drought extend to 18 games. Andres Chaparro is batting second as the designated hitter Tuesday for Washington.

  Wood went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Angels. The steals were the 20th and 21st of the season for Wood, and per Jessica Camerato of MLB.com, he and CJ Abrams (30 HR, 29 SB) are the 11th pair of teammates in league history to record 30-20 seasons together, a club most recently joined by Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor with the Mets last year. Since returning from an oblique strain in early September, Wood has gone 9-for-33 (.273) with three doubles, four steals, two runs and two RBI, but he's still looking for his first homer since July 26 as he remains stuck on 30.

  Wood went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Dodgers. Wood has gone 4-for-13 with two doubles and one RBI over three games since he returned from an oblique injury. This was his first steal since his activation off the injured list. The outfielder is up to 18 steals on 20 attempts this year. He's added a .267 batting average, .925 OPS, 30 home runs, 74 RBI, 101 runs scored, 28 doubles and one triple across 117 contests.

• Nationals' James Wood: Getting minor-league action Sunday

  Wood (oblique) will play seven innings in left field for Double-A Harrisburg on Sunday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports. It'll likely be Wood's only game on his rehab assignment, with Nationals manager Blake Butera saying Saturday "we'll probably give [Wood] Monday off, then we'll see from there." Wood could be back with the Nationals as soon as Tuesday, when major-league rosters expand to 28 players. He is in the final stages of his recovery from a left oblique strain that caused him to go on the 10-day injured list in early August.

  Wood (oblique) participated in Friday's batting practice, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports. Wood took another step in his recovery from a left oblique strain that landed him on the 10-day injured list Aug. 4. Nationals manager Blake Butera noted Friday that Wood may not need to go on a rehab assignment and could be back in the team's lineup by next week.
