Panthers' Xavier Legette: Dealing with ankle injury
Legette has his right foot in a boot due to an ankle injury that he sustained during Wednesday's joint practice with the Jaguars, Mike Kaye of ESPN.com reports.
Legette twisted his ankle after he was rolled up on during Wednesday's session, and the injury prevented him from playing in the Carolina's 34-17 preseason win over Jacksonville on Friday. Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters after Friday's exhibition game that he wasn't sure whether Legette will practice in the coming week, making it unlikely that the 2024 first-round pick will suit up for the team's preseason finale against the Texans on Friday, Aug. 28. While Legette is sidelined, Jimmy Horn, John Metchie and David Moore will all see additional reps as the team's WR3 behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker.

Coach Dave Canales highlighted Legette on Wednesday for having a strong training camp, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
"Really good to see him back out there playing like himself," Canales said. "Playing fast, just knowing where to be. He's doing a phenomenal job; he's the guy that we're counting on. He looks explosive. And then what I've seen him do is just make great plays on the boundary, back of the end zone, just some of those spatial plays where he can go attack the ball, find a way to get his feet down, and he's really attacked that part of his game, and that's something that I've seen him really improve on." Legette acknowledged he wasn't very good in 2025 and took a "step back" this offseason to refocus on getting better. He worked out with Bryce Young multiple times away from the team during the spring and now has a good chance to claim the WR3 role in Carolina after rookie Chris Brazzell was lost for the season due to a knee injury early in camp.

Panthers' Xavier Legette: Deemed healthy
Coach Dave Canales said Thursday following the Hall of Fame Game that Legette (neck) "feels great" and is healthy, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
While Legette didn't play in the exhibition opener Thursday night against Arizona, Canales said the wide receiver is "back" and ready to return after being diagnosed with a neck stinger earlier in the week when he was carted off the practice field. With rookie Chris Brazzell (knee) already ruled out for the 2026 season, Legette will compete for WR3 duties in Carolina. He's been a disappointment through two seasons, totaling 84 catches for 860 yards and seven touchdowns across 31 regular-season games since being selected No. 32 overall in the 2024 Draft.

Legette, a 2024 first-round pick, is coming off a disappointing Year 2 campaign in which he totaled just a 35-353-3 line (64 targets) across 15 regular-season appearances, lower totals than not only Tetairoa McMillan, the 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year, but also Jalen Coker, who logged just 11 regular-season appearances. As such, Legette projects as no better than the No. 3 WR for QB Bryce Young in 2026, and his role as a deep threat could be challenged by Brazzell, who boasts 4.37 speed and a 6-foot-4 frame. This offseason will be crucial for Legette, as his already marginal fantasy value will take a steep hit if Brazzell is able to encroach on reps in three-wide sets alongside McMillan and Coker.
