Top Bengals News

  • Bengals' Shemar Stewart: Limited in practice

Stewart (ankle) was a limited participant in Cincinnati's practice Wednesday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.

Stewart has been sidelined for the past three weeks but managed to return to practice Wednesday, albeit in a limited capacity. If the rookie first-round pick is able to practice again Thursday and Friday, he should be in good shape to play in Sunday's matchup versus the Packers.

  • Bengals' Charlie Jones: Limited to open week

Jones (Achilles) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.

Jones was dealing with an Achilles injury heading into the Bengals' Week 5 clash against the Lions. He was cleared to play in that contest and finished the game with 154 yards on six kickoff returns and six yards on one punt return (along with three fair catches) in Sunday's 37-24 loss. The 2023 fourth-rounder is still working through his Achilles injury, but he would avoid an injury designation heading into Week 6 against the Packers if he were to upgrade to a full practice participant over the next two days.

  • Bengals' Drew Sample: Working through ankle injury

Sample did not participate in Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.

Sample played 41 snaps (27 on offense, 14 on special teams) and logged one catch for minus-1 yard during the Bengals' 37-24 loss to the Lions in Week 5. He has come out of that contest worse for wear with an ankle injury, and he'll have two more opportunities to return to practice and avoid an injury designation heading into Sunday's contest against the Packers at Lambeau Field. Tanner Hudson and Cam Grandy would be in line to step up as the TE3 behind Mike Gesicki and Noah Fant if Sample is not cleared to play against Green Bay.

  • Bengals' Jake Browning: Giving way to Flacco on Sunday

Browning is set to move into a backup role with Joe Flacco having been named the starting QB for Sunday's game against the Packers, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.

With Browning having gone 0-3 as a starter since taking over for franchise QB Joe Burrow (toe) -- who is on IR -- in Week 3, the Bengals traded for Flacco on Tuesday. Coach Zac Taylor then quickly made the change at signal-caller, while noting Wednesday, per Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, that Flacco's style "fits our style" and that the 40-year-old will take all the first-team QB reps ahead of Week 6 action.

  • Bengals' Joe Flacco: Named starter for Sunday

Coach Zac Taylor revealed Wednesday that Flacco will start Sunday's game against the Packers, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.

The Bengals acquired Flacco from the Browns on Tuesday, and Taylor quickly named the veteran QB the starter for the 2-3 team, which has dropped three straight games. With Flacco moving into into the No. 1 signal-caller role, Jake Browning is in line to work in a backup capacity this weekend. Flacco thus represents an option for those in two-QB formats or who are looking for a bye week plug-in ahead of Week 6 action.

  • Bengals' Lucas Patrick: Practice window opens

Patrick (calf) was designated to return from the injured reserve list Wednesday.

After missing the Bengals' last four games due to a calf injury sustained in the Week 1 win over the Browns, Patrick appears to be nearing a return. He now has 21 days to be added to Cincinnati's active roster before reverting to IR. Once activated, he's expected to operate as the team's top right guard.

  • Bengals' Tahj Brooks: Limited to special teams in Week 5

Brooks played all 12 of his snaps on special teams in Sunday's 37-24 loss to the Lions.

After drawing some positive buzz in the spring and during training camp, Brooks has been unable to find a role on offense through the first five weeks of the season after averaging just 3.5 yards per carry on 21 totes during the preseason. Though starter Chase Brown (2.5 YPC) has gotten off to a rough start to begin the campaign, veteran backup Samaje Perine has been serviceable as a change-of-pace option behind Brown and has the trust of the coaching staff for his pass-catching and pass-blocking skills. With that in mind, Brooks may have a difficult time seeing the field as a rookie unless one of Brown or Perine misses time due to an injury.

  • Bengals' Mitchell Tinsley: No targets in Week 5

Tinsley went untargeted while playing three of the Bengals' 62 snaps on offense in Sunday's 37-24 loss to the Lions.

After drawing at least one target in each of the Bengals' previous three contests, Tinsley went without a look in the passing game while playing his fewest snaps to date through five weeks. Though the Bengals continue to prioritize him ahead of 2024 second-round pick Jermaine Burton at receiver, Tinsley will likely struggle to see meaningful volume while all of Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Andrei Iosivas and Mike Gesicki are available.

  • Bengals' Tanner Hudson: Struggling to find role on offense

Hudson went without a target while playing just one of the Bengals' 62 snaps on offense in Sunday's 37-24 loss to the Lions.

Though Hudson flashed some strong pass-catching chops in his limited opportunities the past two seasons with Cincinnati, he's struggled to find playing time in 2025 with the Bengals bringing back top tight end Mike Gesicki on a new deal and signing Noah Fant to a one-year contract in the offseason. Through five weeks, Hudson has been a healthy inactive on one occasion and has played just two snaps on offense in the four games in which he's suited up.

  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: Two sacks in loss

Hendrickson notched two solo tackles, including 2.0 sacks, while forcing a fumble in Sunday's 37-24 loss to the Lions.

Hendrickson was a bright spot in an otherwise ugly game for Cincinnati, recording a strip-sack of Jared Goff in the first quarter, and linebacker Logan Wilson ultimately recovered the fumble. Hendrickson later got to Goff again in the fourth quarter, securing his first multi-sack performance of the year. The defensive lineman has now compiled 13 total tackles (10 solo), including 4.0 sacks, while also adding a pass defensed and a forced fumble over five games this season.

  • Bengals' Logan Wilson: Eight takedowns in loss

Wilson recorded eight total tackles (three solo) and recovered a fumble in Sunday's 37-24 loss to the Lions.

Wilson matched his season high in tackles, finishing tied for the team lead with linebacker Demetrius Knight and defensive lineman Tedarrell Slaton. Additionally, Wilson jumped on a loose ball after Trey Hendrickson stripped Jared Goff in the first quarter, securing his first fumble recovery of the year. The linebacker has now compiled 33 total tackles (15 solo), three passes defensed and a fumble recovery over five games this year.

  • Bengals' Geno Stone: Six stops in loss

Stone recorded six total tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 37-24 loss to the Lions.

Stone maintained his consistent level of play in Week 5, recording at least three solo tackles for the fourth consecutive contest. The safety is on pace to challenge his career-high 81 total tackles (47 solo), which he posted during the 2024 campaign with Cincinnati. Through five games this season, Stone has now registered 34 total tackles (19 solo).

  • Bengals' Dax Hill: Five tackles in loss

Hill recorded five total tackles (two solo) in Sunday's 37-24 loss to Detroit.

Hill was on the field for all 61 of the team's defensive snaps, securing at least five takedowns for the third time this year. The cornerback has now registered 34 total tackles (23 solo) and two passes defensed, including an interception, over five games this season.
