Capitals' Connor McMichael: Earns two points in Friday's win
McMichael scored a power-play goal on two shots and added an assist in Friday's 5-1 win over the Blue Jackets.
It's been a poor start to the season for McMichael, but the Capitals haven't needed to adjust too much since they're off to a 6-2-0 start as a team. With Friday's performance, the 24-year-old has three points, 20 shots on net, four hits, three blocked shots and four PIM through eight outings. He broke out to the tune of 26 goals and 57 points over 82 regular-season contests last year, but he'll need to pick up the pace significantly to get back to that level in 2025-26.

Capitals' Connor McMichael: Seeing-eye pass sets up line mate
McMichael picked up an assist Tuesday in a 3-2 OT win over Tampa Bay.
His assist was a thing of beauty. He nabbed a dump-in, and as he was about to carry it behind and around the net, McMichael passed back to Aliaksei Protas, who wired a one-timer into the open left side of the net. McMichael's off to a slow start this season and has one assist in four contests after recording 57 points and 177 shots in 82 regular-season games last year. He'll be fine.

Capitals' Connor McMichael: Gets fourth goal of postseason
McMichael scored a goal in a 3-1 win over Carolina on Thursday in Game 2.
It was a strange goal. Carolina's Sean Walker attempted a dump-in but hit his teammate Shayne Gostisbehere in the face. McMichael grabbed the loose puck and took off, skating in alone on Frederik Andersen and firing the puck right shelf to put the Capitals up 1-0. It was his fourth goal of the postseason; he has six points and 16 shots in seven games. McMichael took a big step forward during the regular season with 57 points, including 26 goals, in 82 games, and he has continued that effort into the postseason.

Capitals' Connor McMichael: Scores two goals in win
McMichael scored two goals, including an empty-netter, in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Canadiens in Game 2.
McMichael evened things up for the Capitals shortly after Christian Dvorak broke the deadlock in the second period, and he closed the scoring with an empty-netter in the final seconds of the contest. McMichael scored 26 goals across 82 regular-season appearances. While his decrease in production down the stretch was a concern for fantasy managers heading into the playoffs -- he recorded just one goal in his final 12 regular-season contests -- this might be the spark he needs to remain productive as a top-six forward and member of the second power-play unit.

For the season, he's produced 26 goals, 57 points, 177 shots on net and a plus-19 rating over 82 appearances, though his late fade on offense is a mild concern heading into the postseason.

Capitals' Connor McMichael: Grabs helper in win
McMichael logged an assist and four shots on goal in Friday's 5-3 win over the Blackhawks.
McMichael snapped a five-game point drought with the helper. The 24-year-old forward has found himself on the fourth line recently, as the Capitals are easing Ryan Leonard in with top-six usage at even strength. McMichael's usage in reality is more versatile, especially thanks to his power-play role. He's faded a little bit late in the campaign but still has 55 points (25 goals, 30 assists), 167 shots on net, 38 hits, 33 blocked shots, 47 PIM and a plus-25 rating over 76 contests. He could get back into the top six if Aliaksei Protas (foot) is unable to play Sunday against the Islanders.

McMichael's drive and energy will make him an ideal second-line scoring center for the next 6-8 years, and his fantasy contributions will be integral to many championships.
