Red Wings' Wilmer Skoog: Agrees to one-year contract
Skoog signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Red Wings on Wednesday.
Skoog had two assists, a plus-3 rating, four PIM, two hits and five blocks in three regular-season appearances with Florida in 2025-26. He also had 18 goals, 37 points and 51 PIM in 61 regular-season outings with AHL Charlotte last campaign. The 26-year-old will compete for a bottom-six spot with Detroit during training camp, but he'll probably begin 2026-27 in the AHL.

Wilmer Skoog: Doesn't receive QO
The Panthers did not present a qualifying offer to Skoog on Monday, per Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald.
Skoog is now set to test the free-agent market Wednesday. The Swedish forward made his NHL debut with Florida this past season, picking up two helpers over three games. Skoog also had 18 goals, 37 points and a plus-12 rating across 61 regular-season games with AHL Charlotte in 2025-26. Those are relatively solid numbers for a player who was never drafted by an NHL team, so Skoog should be able to secure at least a two-way contract when free agency kicks off Wednesday.

Skoog was reassigned to AHL Charlotte on Thursday.
Skoog had two assists over three games at the NHL level. The 26-year-old forward will rejoin the Checkers ahead of their playoff run. He has 37 points in 59 AHL contests this season.

Skoog was an injury replacement over the last three games of the season, and he was able to come away with a pair of helpers in the finale. He added four shots on net, five blocked shots, two hits, four PIM and a plus-3 rating. The 26-year-old is likely headed back to AHL Charlotte soon to help the Checkers on their playoff run.

Skoog is one point shy of matching his 72-game point total from the 2024-25 regular season, and he's eight behind his 2023-24 performance, which came in 49 appearances.

Skoog scored twice in AHL Charlotte's 4-3 win over Iowa on Friday.
Skoog has racked up five goals and 10 points over 12 contests this season. He had just 24 points in 72 regular-season outings a year ago, but he clearly showed something that earned him a one-year contract in July. The 26-year-old forward's uptick in scoring is a positive sign, but it's still unlikely to lead to anything more than a brief call-up to the Panthers this season if injuries pile up for the NHL roster.
