Oilers' Noah Philp: Breaks through for first NHL goal
Philp scored a goal on two shots, dished out two hits and added two PIM in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Canucks.
Philp opened the scoring at 12:21 of the second period with the first goal of his NHL career. It came in his 17th appearance, all of which have been over the last two seasons for the 27-year-old. It's been a winding path to the NHL for Philp, but he has a chance to maintain a bottom-six job early in 2025-26. However, minimal power-play time and limited usage at even strength will likely keep his scoring numbers low, and he could rotate out of the lineup for Curtis Lazar or lose his spot altogether once Jack Roslovic is ready to make his Oilers debut.

Oilers' Noah Philp: Set to return Friday
Philp (illness) is slated to return for Friday's preseason game against Vancouver, Ben Kuzma of Postmedia reports.
Philp dealt with an illness over the past few days, but he centered the third line during Friday's morning skate and should have an opportunity for a final tune-up ahead of the regular season. It seems as though the 27-year-old will also be ready for Wednesday's Opening Night matchup against Calgary.

Philp (illness) is doubtful for Wednesday's preseason game versus Seattle, according to Tom Gazzola of Edmonton Sports Talk.
Philp didn't participate in Tuesday's practice. With David Tomasek also under the weather, the Oilers may need to bring up some reinforcements from AHL Bakersfield for Wednesday's contest. Philp had two assists, 17 shots on goal and 15 hits over 15 regular-season appearances with Edmonton in 2024-25.

Philp put pen to paper on a one-year, two-way contract with Edmonton on Monday.
Philp played in 15 regular-season contests for the Oilers this past year in which he notched two assists, 17 shots and 15 hits while averaging 9:05 of ice time. While the 26-year-old center was on the roster during the postseason, he never made an appearance in a playoff game. Look for Philp to spend the bulk of the upcoming campaign in the minors with AHL Bakersfield given his offensive limitations.

Philp drew into the lineup three times in his latest NHL stint, recording no points and five shots on goal. With the Oilers managing a tight cap situation, it was necessary for the 26-year-old to be sent down ahead of the final two games of the regular season. Assuming he isn't recalled prior to Wednesday's contest versus the Sharks, he will finish his NHL regular season with two points, both assists, in 15 games.

Philp has two assists, 12 shots on goal, nine hits and five blocked shots in 12 NHL outings this season. Due to injuries, the Oilers played with 11 forwards and six defensemen in Monday's 3-2 loss to Anaheim. Philp's promotion to the roster as an emergency exception may not bode well for the availability of Connor McDavid (lower body), Leon Draisaitl (undisclosed) and Trent Frederic (ankle) for Wednesday's matchup against the Blues.
