  • Senators' Drake Batherson: Seeking eight-year contract

Batherson is seeking an eight-year contract extension before the mid-September deadline to sign a deal of that length, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen reports Monday.

Batherson has been a strong contributor for the Senators in recent years, most recently recording a career-high 33 goals and 71 points, along with 122 hits, 33 PIM and 22 blocked shots, while averaging 17:21 of ice time across 79 regular-season appearances during the 2025-26 campaign. He's entering the final season of his six-year contract and hopes to reach a long-term agreement with Ottawa before the new collective bargaining agreement takes effect, which limits the maximum length of a contract extension to seven years, down from the previous mark of eight. Regardless of Batherson's contract status heading into the regular season, he should take on a prominent role for Ottawa once again during the 2026-27 campaign.

  • Senators' Drake Batherson: Lone goal in loss

Batherson scored a goal in a 2-1 loss to Carolina in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference First Round on Thursday.

Nick Cousins found him down low, and Batherson went forehand-backhand over the pads of Frederik Andersen to tie the game 1-1 late in the second period. Batherson has a goal in each of his last two games, and with five more hits Thursday, he has laid out 14 in three contests this postseason. He and the Senators have a big hole to dig out of heading into Game 4, as they are down 3-0 ahead of Saturday's matchup.

Batherson scored two goals, one on the power play and the other the game-winner, in Sunday's 7-4 victory over San Jose.

The 27-year-old winger was the recipient of an absurd amount of puck luck Sunday. Batherson's first goal came when Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro re-directed his centering pass into his own net in the first period, while the other came when Artem Zub's point shot in the third deflected home off Batherson's arm. It still goes down as Batherson's fourth multi-goal performance in the last eight games, and on the season he's up to 27 goals and 59 points in 63 contests. He's one tally away from tying his career high of 28 from the 2023-24 season and one point away from his fourth straight 60-point campaign.
