Top Jiri Patera News

  • Canucks' Jiri Patera: Returned to minors

Patera was reassigned to AHL Abbotsford on Monday.

Patera saw action in one game during his November stint with the Canucks, giving up seven goals on 40 shots (.825 save percentage) in a loss to the Panthers on Nov. 17. With Thatcher Demko (lower body) still on the shelf, the Canucks brought up Nikita Tolopilo from the minors in a corresponding move, presumably to serve as the No. 2 behind Kevin Lankinen against the Ducks on Wednesday.

  • Canucks' Jiri Patera: Late fade in Florida

Patera stopped 33 of 40 shots in Monday's 8-5 loss to the Panthers, with Florida's final goal getting scored into an empty net.

The wild back-and-forth affair saw the Canucks take a 2-0 lead in the first period, fall behind 5-2 midway through the second, then rally to tie it up in the third before the Panthers finally pulled away. Patera didn't give up any egregiously bad goals, but he also showed some nerves at times, which perhaps shouldn't have been surprising considering his first NHL start of the season was coming against the two-time defending Stanley Cup champs. Kevin Lankinen should continue to get most of the work while Thatcher Demko (lower body) is sidelined, but Vancouver has back-to-back sets coming up each of the next two weekends, so Patera figures to get at least a little more action while up with the big club.

  • Canucks' Jiri Patera: Tending twine Monday

Patera will defend the road crease against Florida on Monday, Dan Murphy of Sportsnet reports.

The Canucks are playing the second half of a back-to-back set Monday, and Patera will make his season debut as a result after Kevin Lankinen started against the Lightning on Sunday. Patera has made eight NHL appearances for the Golden Knights, going 3-3-1 with a 3.58 GAA and .902 save percentage. The Panthers are scoring just 2.72 goals per game to begin the season, which is tied for the fifth-worst mark in the NHL.

  • Canucks' Jiri Patera: Called up from AHL

Patera was recalled from AHL Abbotsford on Friday, Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK reports.

There is no word at this time as to whether Thatcher Demko or Kevin Lankinen are injured. Patera has gone 1-2-1 with a 3.10 GAA and an .894 save percentage in five AHL appearances this season. Patera has played eight NHL games across a pair of seasons with Vegas, posting a 3-3-1 record.

  • Canucks' Jiri Patera: Waived by Vancouver

Patera was placed on waivers by the Canucks on Monday, Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK reports.

Patera spent most of training camp with Vancouver, but he'll presumably head back to AHL Abbotsford if he clears waivers. He made seven regular-season appearances for Abbotsford last year, going 2-2-2 with a 2.79 GAA and .899 save percentage.

  • Canucks' Jiri Patera: Picked up by former club

Patera was re-claimed off waivers by Vancouver on Monday, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports.

Patera's stint in Boston lasted less than a week after he was claimed by the Bruins, presumably, to bolster the goalie room in the absence of Jeremy Swayman. With Swayman finally signed, Patera's services were no longer needed, allowing the Canucks to bring the netminder back into the fold. Since they originally waived Patera for the purpose of sending him down to the minors, he will now be headed to AHL Abbotsford for the start of the 2024-25 season.

  • Bruins' Jiri Patera: Back on waivers

Patera was placed on waivers Sunday, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Boston claimed Patera off waivers from Vancouver on Wednesday for additional goaltending depth. However, the Bruins signed Jeremy Swayman on Sunday, making Petera expendable. The 25-year-old Patera will head to AHL Providence if he clears waivers.

Patera was claimed off waivers by the Bruins on Wednesday, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports.

Patera was waived by the Canucks on Tuesday with the intent of assigning him to the AHL, but he'll join the Bruins ahead of the regular season. He made six regular-season appearances with Vegas last year and posted a 1-3-1 record, 3.97 GAA and .893 save percentage.

Patera was put on waivers Tuesday to be assigned to AHL Abbotsford.

Patera posted a record of 11-10-4 with a 2.99 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 25 outings with AHL Henderson during the 2023-24 regular season. He will likely remain in the minors for most, if not all, of the upcoming campaign.

  • Canucks' Jiri Patera: Gets starting nod

Patera will start in goal for Wednesday's preseason game versus the Flames in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Jeff Paterson of CanucksArmy.com reports.

Patera went 11-10-4 with a 2.99 GAA and a .903 save percentage over 25 games with AHL Henderson last year. He was also 1-3-1 with a 3.98 GAA and an .893 save percentage in six NHL contests with the Golden Knights. Patera signed a two-year deal to bolster Vancouver's goaltending depth, but he is likely no higher than fourth on the depth chart when everyone else is healthy.

  • Canucks' Jiri Patera: Signs two-year contract

Patera agreed to terms on a two-year, two-way deal with Vancouver on Monday.

Patera may get a look ahead of the 2024-25 campaign but would have to put together a fantastic training camp to unseat Arturs Silovs for the No. 2 job in Vancouver. Instead, Patera figures to continue developing in the minors with AHL Abbotsford.

  • Golden Knights' Jiri Patera: Sent back down

Patera was reassigned to AHL Henderson on Tuesday, per CapFriendly.

  • Golden Knights' Jiri Patera: At practice Monday

Patera is on the NHL roster and practicing with the team Monday, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Patera has secured just one win in his six NHL games this season, with the lone victory coming Dec. 10 against San Jose. Unless Adin Hill (undisclosed) is sidelined long-term, Patera is unlikely to actually get into an NHL game, instead serving as the No. 2 option behind Logan Thompson.

  • Golden Knights' Jiri Patera: Falls in overtime

Patera made 30 saves on 35 shots in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Predators on Tuesday.

In a high-scoring affair, the two goaltenders faced the exact same amount of shots but Patera was unable to make that extra save to come up with the win in overtime. The Golden Knights found themselves up 3-0 in the first period but the Predators battled back as they scored four goals in the final two frames, including three consecutive in the third. It was Patera's first start since Jan. 10 as he battles with fellow netminder Logan Thompson for playing time.

Patera will guard the road goal Tuesday versus the Predators.

The 25-year-old Patera has a 1-3-0 record with a 3.75 GAA and a .901 save percentage in five NHL outings this season. Nashville is tied for 12th in the league with 3.23 goals per contest this campaign.

  • Golden Knights' Jiri Patera: Back with big club

Patera was recalled from AHL Henderson on Sunday.

Adin Hill was injured Saturday against Columbus, so Patera will join Vegas as a depth option. If Hill isn't available in St. Louis on Monday, Patera will likely serve as the backup behind Logan Thompson.

  • Golden Knights' Jiri Patera: Dropped to minors

Patera was assigned to AHL Henderson on Tuesday.

Patera suited up as Adin Hill's backup in Monday's 5-3 loss to Minnesota because Logan Thompson (illness) was unavailable. Thompson has plenty of time to recover ahead of Saturday's home matchup versus Carolina.
