Byfield went quiet in the middle of the series with no points from Game 3 to Game 5. He struck early Thursday, but the Oilers had a 3-2 lead after one period and led the rest of the way. Byfield finished this postseason with four points, 18 shots on net, 14 hits and a minus-7 rating over six appearances. He's just 22 years old, so he has plenty of time to continue growing his game, which will eventually need to include finding another level in the playoffs.

Byfield was one of several Los Angeles players who recorded a multi-point performance in this series opener, and he made his presence felt in the latter stages of both the first and second periods. Byfield sustained an upper-body injury in Monday's 5-0 win over Edmonton.
Byfield was not on the bench for the start of the third period after he was driven downwards into the ice by Edmonton's Darnell Nurse in the middle frame. Nurse then proceeded to illegally check Byfield again after the two players fell to the ice, which forced the latter to leave the contest. Monday was the first game of a back-to-back for Los Angeles, and the Kings will likely utilize the utmost caution with Byfield ahead of the postseason. He should be considered questionable, at best, for Tuesday's road matchup against the Kraken.

Byfield had a goal and two assists Saturday in a 5-4 win over the Avalanche.
His line with Alex Laferriere and Kevin Fiala dominated the game, putting up four goals and four assists in the win. Byfield is on a roll with six points (three goals, three assists) on a three-game scoring streak. It includes a three-game goal streak, too. Byfield has 22 goals, 31 assists and 151 shots in 79 games, and with three games left, he could challenge his career mark of 55 points, which he set last season in 80 contests.

Byfield scored for the second game in a row and has earned six points over his last six contests. The 22-year-old's late surge has him up to 21 goals and 50 points through 78 appearances in 2024-25, including 10 goals and 16 points over 21 games since the start of March. He's done all of that from a middle-six role, though he's often picked up extra minutes while the Kings look to be building in some rest during games for Anze Kopitar. Byfield is a strong contributor for points, shots and hits for the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs.

Kings' Quinton Byfield: Reaches 20-goal mark
Byfield scored a goal in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Kraken.
Byfield snapped a seven-game goal drought, during which he had three assists, when he scored at 1:48 of the first period. That was the only puck the Kings could put behind Joey Daccord. Byfield reached the 20-goal mark for the second year in a row, and while he's likely to fall short of matching his 55-point total from last season, he's at 48 points (four on the power play) through 77 appearances. The 22-year-old center has added 149 shots on net, 77 hits, 42 PIM and a plus-15 rating this season, production in line with what he did last year aside from a significant drop in power-play success.
