Hurricanes' Givani Smith: Heads to AHL
Smith went unclaimed on waivers and was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Saturday, per Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.
Smith inked a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina on Friday and was promptly put on waivers. Although he's starting the season in the minors, earning that two-way contract out of training camp makes him a call-up option should the Hurricanes run into injury troubles. Smith had nine goals, 22 points and 268 PIM across 168 career regular-season NHL games, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the 27-year-old get some work with the big club at some point during the upcoming campaign.

Hurricanes' Givani Smith: Inks one-year contract
Smith signed a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina on Friday.
Smith came into camp on a professional tryout agreement and snagged a one-year deal after a good training camp. The feisty winger had 18 PIM with nary a point across 13 regular-season games with San Jose and Colorado in 2024-25.

Hurricanes' Givani Smith: Snags PTO
Smith inked a professional tryout agreement with the Hurricanes on Wednesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Smith was in action for 13 regular-season games last year for Colorado and San Jose, in which he failed to register a point while picking up 18 PIM, five shots and 20 hits. If he secures a deal from the Canes, it will almost certainly be a two-way contract that will allow the 27-year-old winger to be shifted between levels easily.

Flyers' Givani Smith: Traded to Philadelphia
Smith was traded to the Flyers from the Avalanche on Friday in exchange for Erik Johnson, RDS.ca reports.
Smith has spent time with the Sharks and Avalanche this year, and he's been held without a point while recording 20 hits, 18 PIM and five blocked shots over 13 appearances in the NHL. He's been in the minors since late December and seems likely to spend most of his time with AHL Lehigh Valley following Friday's trade.

Smith logged 6:30 of ice time with two hits and two PIM in Thursday's 4-1 loss. The 26-year-old cleared waivers while he was a member of the Sharks prior to getting traded to the Avalanche. He's played in two games with his new team, so he can play in a maximum of eight more -- or spend a total of 30 days on the NHL roster -- before he'd require waivers again.

Avalanche's Givani Smith: Heading to Colorado
Smith, Mackenzie Blackwood and a 2027 fifth-round pick were traded from the Sharks to the Avalanche on Monday in exchange for Alexandar Georgiev, Nikolai Kovalenko, a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick.
Smith was waived by the Sharks on Sunday and will have a change of scenery after clearing waivers Monday.
