Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Pockets pair of assists
McAvoy notched two assists, including one on the power play, in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Islanders.
This was McAvoy's second two-assist effort over the last four games. The veteran defenseman is up to eight helpers across 12 outings this season, and he's added 18 shots on net, 19 hits, 19 blocked shots, 22 PIM and a minus-4 rating. McAvoy provides strong category coverage, and he's also producing offense at a rate in line with the best years of his career early in 2025-26.

Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Two helpers against Anaheim
McAvoy pocketed two assists, one on the power play, in Thursday's 7-5 loss to the Ducks.
The veteran blueliner had a hand in a Morgan Geekie tally in the second period and a David Pastrnak strike in the third. McAvoy is still looking for his first goal of the season, but he's quickly putting an injury-plagued 2024-25 behind him with six helpers in nine games, along with 17 shots on net, 16 blocked shots, 13 hits, 12 PIM and a minus-3 rating.

Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Grabs helper in loss
McAvoy notched an assist, three blocked shots and two PIM in Thursday's 6-5 loss to the Golden Knights.
McAvoy is off to a decent start with two helpers over five games this season. Most importantly, he looks fully healthy in a top-pairing role after missing the last quarter of 2024-25 due to a shoulder infection and injury. He's averaging 24:49 of ice time while piling up 11 hits, seven blocked shots, 10 shots on net, eight PIM and a plus-1 rating. McAvoy offers excellent category coverage and decent offense for a blueliner, though the latter could take a hit if the Bruins can't score at a sufficient rate as a team.

Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Will be good to go for 2025-26
McAvoy (shoulder) is feeling good and is expected to be ready for training camp in September, per Steve Conroy of The Boston Herald.
McAvoy said had the Bruins made the playoffs, he would have been able to play, indicating he was just about fully recovered from the shoulder infection that sidelined him during the 4 Nations Face-Off. The defenseman is expected to step into a larger leadership role for 2025-26 and has worked through a fairly normal summer of training in preparation for the upcoming campaign. In addition to the NHL season, McAvoy was one of six players named to the initial Team USA Olympic roster for the 2026 tournament in Italy.

Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Out for season
McAvoy (shoulder) will not return this season, Joe Haggerty of Boston Sports Journal reports Thursday.
McAvoy suffered the injury during the 4 Nations Face-Off in February and never returned to Boston's lineup. McAvoy ends the season with seven goals, 16 assists, 89 hits and 81 blocked shots over 50 regular-season games. He is expected to be fully recovered by the start of training camp in September.

Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Still no timeline
McAvoy (shoulder) fully participated in Monday's practice, but there is still no timeline for his return to the lineup, Joe Haggerty of Boston Sports Journal reports.
McAvoy has missed the last 17 games but appears to be progressing. It's still unclear if he will return before the end of the regular season, though that could be a possibility if he continues to improve. McAvoy has compiled seven goals, 23 points, 98 shots on net, 81 blocked shots and 89 hits in 50 appearances this season.

Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Returns to practice
McAvoy (shoulder) returned to practice Tuesday.
Interim head coach Joe Sacco said "It's good for the morale of the team to have him around...He's progressing the way he should be right now. He's not pushing himself any more than he has to. When he's available he'll be in the lineup. When he's ready." This suggests that McAvoy at least has a chance to return prior to the end of the season. The Bruins were six points out of a playoff spot at the start of play Tuesday, so it's unlikely they'll be making the postseason. However, fantasy managers who have McAvoy on injured reserve may want to hold on a little longer to see if he can contribute late in the season.

Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Lands on IR
McAvoy (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, per the NHL media site.
McAvoy is out indefinitely due to an infection in his right shoulder and an AC joint injury. The Bruins have yet to reveal an official timeline for his absence, but losing McAvoy is a big hit to a team in the middle of the playoff race. Mason Lohrei figures to pick up power-play time in the interim.

Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Develops shoulder infection
McAvoy suffered a right shoulder injury during Team USA's clash against Finland on Thursday. He returned to Boston but began to experience increasing pain, which led to him being diagnosed with an infection as well as a significant AC joint injury. He had a procedure Tuesday and is in the hospital to be treated with IV antibiotics, the Bruins announced Wednesday.
A timetable for McAvoy's return is unclear, but it will probably be a long-term absence. Interim head coach Joe Sacco expects the defenseman to be unavailable in the "short term," according to Eric Russo of the Bruins' official site, but didn't go into more detail. McAvoy has seven goals, 23 points, 46 PIM, 89 hits and 81 blocks over 50 appearances with Boston in 2024-25. Jordan Oesterle will probably play against Anaheim on Saturday due to McAvoy's absence.

Bruins' Charlie McAvoy: Undergoing additional testing
McAvoy (upper body) is still undergoing additional tests, raising doubts regarding his availability against Canada on Thursday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.
McAvoy was held out of Monday's clash with Sweden, with Jake Sanderson stepping into the lineup in his stead. If McAvoy can't go against the Canadians on Thursday, the focus will turn to the Bruins, who will be hoping McAvoy's upper-body issue isn't a long-term problem, and that he'll be available when they face Anaheim on Saturday.
