Capitals' Pierre-Luc Dubois: Needs surgery
Dubois is having surgery on his abdominal and adductor muscles and will miss the next 3-4 months, the Capitals announced Sunday.
As reported, it's not a season-ending injury for Dubois, but it is still one that carries a significant recovery time of 3-4 months. The 27-year-old struggled in his six games so far this season, registering no points while averaging 15:32 of ice time per night, but the loss will still certainly be felt given his top-six status. Connor McMichael could center the second line for the foreseeable future.

Capitals' Pierre-Luc Dubois: Avoids season-ending injury
Dubois (lower body) is not expected to miss the rest of the 2025-26 campaign, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports Tuesday.
Dubois is expected to miss a significant amount of time, and surgery still hasn't been ruled out, but it seems the team won't put the 27-year-old center on season-ending, long-term injured reserve. Without Dubois in the lineup, it looks like Connor McMichael will get the first shot at filling a top-six role, though Hendrix Lapierre could be an option as well.

Head coach Spencer Carbery said Monday that Dubois would be sidelined for an extended period of time, so it isn't particularly surprising to see the 27-year-old land on injured reserve. Dubois was also placed on injured reserve, per the NHL media site, but the move is retroactive to last Sunday's 1-0 win over the Rangers, so he is eligible to be activated ahead of the game against Seattle. He has practiced the last two days in a non-contact jersey, and head coach Spencer Carbery said Saturday that Dubois needs to skate in a regular jersey before Tuesday to give him a chance to face the Kraken. Dubois logged an assist in each of the last two regular-season games. The 26-year-old center posted seven points and a minus-2 rating over the last 15 contests since his most recent multi-point effort. He remains in a second-line role and had a career year with 20 goals, 46 assists, 14 power-play points, 142 shots on net, 65 hits, 62 blocked shots, 76 PIM and a plus-27 rating over 82 appearances.

Dubois' scoring pace has slowed late in the season -- he's now gone 14 games without a multi-point effort. In that span, he has six points, 22 shots on net, 11 hits, 26 PIM and a minus-3 rating. Dubois has still put together a career year in his first season with the Capitals, earning 20 goals, 45 assists, 142 shots on net, 65 hits, 61 blocked shots, 76 PIM and a plus-26 rating over 81 appearances.
