Oilers' Connor McDavid: Optimistic ahead of camp
McDavid said Wednesday that he's healthy and refreshed ahead of training camp, Derek Van Diest of NHL.com reports.
McDavid appeared in all 82 regular-season games last year for the first time since the 2022-23 campaign, and he generated 48 goals, 90 assists, 44 PIM, 40 hits and 30 blocked shots while averaging a career-high 23:00 of ice time. The Oilers had a first-round postseason exit, but McDavid has used the extended offseason to build optimism for the 2026-27 season, which will be the team's first year under head coach Mike Babcock. McDavid remains under contract with Edmonton for two more seasons, and the team will be especially motivated to contend for the Stanley Cup during that time in an attempt to retain the 29-year-old on a long-term basis.

Oilers' Connor McDavid: Expected to play in Game 5
McDavid (ankle) is slated to be in the lineup in Game 5 versus the Ducks on Tuesday, Tony Brar of Oilers TV reports.
McDavid has been bothered by an ankle injury sustained in Game 2, but it's no surprise he'll gut it out to try to help the Oilers stave off elimination. Expect the superstar center to take on his usual heavy minutes in a top-line role and on the first power-play unit. He has earned a goal and three assists over four contests in this first-round series.

McDavid logged two assists, including one on the power play, and added four shots on goal in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Ducks in Game 5.
McDavid was labeled a game-time decision due to an ankle injury, but there was little doubt he'd play in this contest with the Oilers' season on the line. He did his part, assisting on a pair of Leon Draisaitl tallies to help force Game 6, which is Thursday in Anaheim. McDavid is up to one goal, five helpers, 17 shots on net, five hits, two blocked shots and a minus-5 rating over five playoff outings.

McDavid was deemed a game-time decision ahead of Tuesday's Game 5 matchup with the Ducks due to an ankle injury, Mark Spector of Sportsnet reports.
McDavid didn't take part in Tuesday's morning skate and has now been classified as day-to-day by head coach Kris Kloblauch. While it seems unlikely the world-class center would miss a playoff game unless absolutely necessary, fantasy managers will now need to monitor his status in the lead-up to Game 5. If McDavid were to be unavailable, Leon Draisaitl figures to anchor the top line for the Oilers.

McDavid picked up four points over two games in Anaheim, but the Oilers lost both of those contests and are down 3-1 in the series. The superstar center has earned 13 shots on net, five hits and a minus-6 rating over four playoff outings this year.
