Halverson posted a 19-save shutout in AHL Syracuse's 3-0 win over Utica.
Halverson has two shutouts and three wins in four starts to begin the AHL campaign. He's setting himself up well for a call-up should the Lightning lose Andrei Vasilevskiy or Jonas Johansson for any length of time. Halverson will continue to handle a starting role over Ryan Fanti while with the Crunch.

Lightning's Brandon Halverson: Shuts out AHL Rochester
Halverson posted a 31-save shutout in AHL Syracuse's 3-0 win over Rochester on Saturday.
Halverson has won both of his starts at the AHL level this season, allowing just two goals on 47 shots. This was his seventh shutout in the AHL, all of which have come with Syracuse in the last three years since he returned to the level following stints in the ECHL and the German second division between 2020 and 2023. Halverson made a start with the Lightning in 2024-25, but he's unlikely to see significant time with the big club unless one of Andrei Vasilevskiy or Jonas Johansson is injured.

Lightning's Brandon Halverson: Lands on waivers Friday
Halverson was placed on waivers by the Lightning on Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Halverson made some starts for the Lightning during preseason play, but if he clears waivers, he'll head to AHL Syracuse for the start of the regular season. He's made just two regular-season appearances in the NHL during his career and will likely spend most of this year in the minors.

Halverson was reassigned to AHL Syracuse on Wednesday.
Jonas Johansson (personal) rejoined the Lightning Tuesday, which is why Halverson can be returned to the minors. Halverson made his first NHL start Saturday, stopping 19 of 24 shots in a 6-4 loss to Utah. Tampa Bay recalled Cam Atkinson from the AHL in a corresponding move.

Halverson made 19 saves in a 6-4 loss to Utah on Saturday. He allowed five goals.
It was his first NHL start, and the loss wasn't on him. As Bolts coach Jon Cooper said in the post-game scrum, Halverson's teammates simply didn't play well enough in front of their netminder, especially against a gritty team that was hungry to claw its way to a wild-card spot. Halverson will be with the Bolts until Jonas Johansson (personal) returns to the squad. He may not get another start, but at least he lived out his dream. Halverson had made one appearance in relief several seasons ago, but he'd never seen his name in the starting lineup until Saturday.

Halverson was taken by the Rangers two rounds before Igor Shesterkin in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft but hasn't played in the NHL since his lone game for the organization in 2017-18. Since then, he played in the ECHL and Germany's second division before earning an AHL contract with Syracuse last season. Halverson split his time between the AHL and ECHL in 2023-24 before becoming Syracuse's starter in the Calder Cup Playoffs. He's a long shot, but he has a dream.

The Rangers have a number of high-end goaltending prospects in their pipeline, so the fact that they're comfortable with letting Halverson walk into free agency is hardly surprising. Halverson stopped 43 of 45 shots in AHL Hartford's 3-2 win over Toronto on Wednesday.
Like Lazarus, Halverson has risen from the dead. Given another shot in Hartford after the Rangers shipped goaltender Marek Mazenec to Vancouver earlier in the week, Halverson took full advantage of his opportunity Wednesday. A second-round selection (59th overall) of New York in 2014, Halverson is on the verge of being labeled a non-prospect after three forgettable years of professional hockey. He has spent the majority of the past two seasons playing in the ECHL. Hartford is one of the worst teams in the league and Halverson has no track record of success since turning pro in 2016-17, so an extended run of success at the AHL level seems unlikely. Fantasy owners can ignore Halverson.

Rangers' Brandon Halverson: Sent back to AHL
The Rangers assigned Halverson to AHL Hartford on Sunday.
Halverson was called upon in relief of Henrik Lundqvist in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Senators, surrendering one goal on six shot attempts in his first taste of NHL action. His stay with the Rangers was always expected to be brief, however, with his demotion a day later signaling that Alexander Georgiev (illness) should be available to back up Lundqvist on Sunday against the Flyers.

In his NHL debut, Halverson wasn't tested much, as the Senators sat back while he was in net for 12:33 because they had a three-goal lead. And still, he yielded one goal. Halverson figures to stay in the NHL until Alexander Georglev recovers from the flu.

Halverson's summons suggests that Alexander Georgiev (illness) will not be available in a backup capacity for Saturday's game against the Senators. Considering Halverson's struggles in both the ECHL (3.87 GAA, .900 save percentage) and AHL (3.68 GAA, .892 save percentage) this season, the Rangers will likely avoid using him if at all possible. However, back-to-back games Saturday and Sunday could lead to his NHL debut if Georgiev is still under the weather and Henrik Lundqvist can't handle both ends.

Halverson was recalled from the ECHL's Swamp Rabbits on Thursday.
With the Rangers on the road for Thursday's game against the Hurricanes, the parent club called up the reserve tender who was in closest proximity to Raleigh, and that happened to be Halverson. This season, he's maintained a 9-14-0 record with similarly uninspiring ratios (3.40 GAA, .886 save percentage) with AHL Hartford, making him a virtual lock to back up Antti Raanta in this next contest.
