Top Scott Sabourin News

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Sent to minors

Sabourin was reassigned to AHL Syracuse on Wednesday.

Sabourin spent the past week with the Lightning and made three NHL appearances, recording a goal, an assist, six hits and 18 PIM while averaging 10:21 of ice time. He should have more consistent opportunities to contribute in the minors, and could be a call-up option again at some point in the year.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Scores after call-up

Sabourin scored a goal on two shots, added two PIM and logged four hits in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Rangers.

The Lightning are missing a number of regulars up front, so Sabourin was called up to replenish the team's depth. He skated on the fourth line and made the most of his 11:42 of ice time by adding physicality and potting a goal in his NHL season debut. Prior to this season, he had logged just two goals and six assists over 47 NHL appearances between three other teams. He'll add grit and little else during his stay with the Lightning.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Brought up from minors

Sabourin was recalled from AHL Syracuse on Wednesday.

Sabourin will join fellow forward Boris Katchouk in making the trip up from the minors ahead of Wednesday's clash with the Rangers. If Pontus Holmberg (undisclosed) and/or Anthony Cirelli (upper body) can't suit up versus New York, it will open the door for Sabourin or Katchouk to make their 2025-26 season debuts.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Sent back down

Sabourin was reassigned to AHL Syracuse on Wednesday.

Sabourin joined the Lightning for Tuesday's matchup against the Predators and completed his four-game suspension, but he'll head back to the minors a day later. He'll be eligible to suit up for Tampa Bay if he's called back up, but he should see consistent playing time in the minors.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Rejoins NHL club

Sabourin (suspension) was recalled from AHL Syracuse on Tuesday.

Sabourin will finish out his four-game suspension Tuesday versus the Predators. It remains to be seen whether he'll remain with the big club after Tuesday's contest, as he appeared in just four games with the Sharks across the 2023-24 and 2024-25 regular seasons.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Sent back to minors

Sabourin (suspension) was reassigned to AHL Syracuse on Friday, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Sabourin will return to the minors a day after being recalled by the Lightning, although he did serve the third game of his four-game suspension during Thursday's matchup against Chicago. He'll still be eligible to play for Syracuse, but he could rejoin the NHL club at some point soon to officially complete his suspension.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Recalled by Tampa Bay

Sabourin (suspension) was recalled from AHL Syracuse on Thursday.

Sabourin spent last weekend with the Lightning and served half of his four-game suspension at the NHL level, and he'll rejoin Tampa Bay ahead of Thursday's game against Chicago. However, it's not yet clear whether he'll remain with the Lightning for Saturday's game against the Ducks in order to complete his suspension. Over four appearances in the AHL this year, Sabourin has recorded a goal, an assist, seven PIM and a plus-2 rating.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Assigned to minors

Sabourin (suspension) was returned to AHL Syracuse on Sunday.

Sabourin received a four-game suspension in Tampa Bay's preseason finale against Florida, and he has served half of it. He could return to Tampa Bay before Thursday's matchup against Chicago to work on completing his NHL ban for roughing Florida's Aaron Ekblad on Oct. 4. While he is eligible to play in the AHL, he can't appear in a game with the Lightning until his suspension is over, and he can only serve his suspension when he's on Tampa Bay's roster.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Up from minors

Sabourin (suspension) was summoned from AHL Syracuse on Friday.

Sabourin was given a four-game suspension for roughing Florida's Aaron Ekblad during a preseason game Oct. 4, and he hasn't served that punishment yet. Assuming Sabourin stays with Tampa Bay, he'll be eligible to play Oct. 26 versus Vegas. The 33-year-old Sabourin can't serve his suspension unless he's on the NHL roster, so any time he gets demoted without completing his punishment pauses the process. NHL suspensions don't make players ineligible for minor-league duty, though, and Sabourin has a goal and an assist in two appearances with Syracuse in 2025-26.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Suspended, demoted to minors

Sabourin was handed a four-game suspension by the Department of Player Safety on Monday before being sent down to AHL Syracuse.

Sabourin could still be recalled ahead of Thursday's Opening Night matchup with Ottawa, as the Lightning are likely trying to maximize their LTIR benefit for Nick Paul (upper body). If Sabourin does start the year in the minors, he'll need to be recalled to serve his suspension at the NHL level before he can get into a game with the big club.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Having a hearing for roughing

The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Sunday that Sabourin will have a hearing for roughing Florida's Aaron Ekblad in Saturday's preseason game.

Sabourin received a match penalty at the 2:18 mark of the first period for going after Ekblad. The 33-year-old Sabourin had 10 goals, 25 points and 111 PIM across 68 regular-season appearances with AHL San Jose in 2024-25. In the likely event that he lands a suspension, he will need to be on Tampa Bay's roster to serve it. However, he would still be eligible to play for AHL Syracuse during that time.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Returned to minors

Sabourin was returned to AHL Syracuse on Wednesday.

Sabourin was promoted to bolster the Bolts' roster ahead of Tuesday's preseason matchup with the Panthers, but he'll now head back to the minors. Over the last two seasons, the 33-year-old winger has logged just four NHL contests for the Sharks. Now with his fourth NHL franchise, Sabourin figures to remain primarily a minor-league option for the club.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Called up from minors

Sabourin was recalled from AHL Syracuse on Tuesday.

Sabourin likely will find himself shifting between levels for much of the 2025-26 season, especially when there are injuries among the forward group. Whether the 33-year-old winger makes the Opening Night roster for the Bolts will likely depend on the health of Pontus Holmberg (undisclosed).

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Hits waivers

Sabourin was put on waivers Sunday with the intent to assign him to AHL Syracuse.

Sabourin collected 10 goals, 25 points and 111 PIM across 68 regular-season games with AHL San Jose in 2024-25. After signing a one-year, two-way deal with Tampa Bay in the summer, he will likely be in the minors for the majority of the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Lightning's Scott Sabourin: Inks one-year deal

Sabourin signed a one-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Sabourin compiled 10 goals, 25 points and 111 PIM across 68 regular-season games with AHL San Jose in 2024-25. The 32-year-old forward has two goals, eight points and 58 PIM in 47 career NHL regular-season appearances. However, he will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2025-26 campaign in the minors.

  • Sharks' Scott Sabourin: Shipped back to minors

Sabourin was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Wednesday.

Sabourin saw action in one NHL game during his recent stint with the Sharks, registering two hits, one block and a minus-2 rating in 10:27 of ice time. The veteran winger's demotion could be an indication that one of the team's injured forwards is nearing a return to action -- though another move could be made prior to Thursday's matchup with Seattle.

  • Sharks' Scott Sabourin: Recalled by NHL club

Sabourin was recalled by the Sharks on Friday.

Sabourin was sent to the minors ahead of the regular season, and he's logged five goals, eight assists and a minus-5 rating over 35 appearances with AHL San Jose this season. He'll rejoin the NHL club after Ty Dellandrea (upper body) was placed on injured reserve, but Sabourin will likely serve mainly as a depth option in Dellandrea's absence.

  • Sharks' Scott Sabourin: Placed on waivers

Sabourin was designated for waivers by San Jose on Wednesday.

Sabourin has appeared in just 46 regular-season contests for Ottawa, Toronto and San Jose despite having made the jump to the professional ranks back in 2014-15. At this point, the veteran winger figures to serve primarily in a leadership role with the Barracuda, though he could be called up from the minors if needed.

  • Sharks' Scott Sabourin: Sent to AHL affiliate

Sabourin was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Tuesday.

Sabourin has been a healthy scratch for four of the seven games he's been on the Sharks' roster for since being recalled Jan. 8, so this move doesn't come as a surprise. The 31-year-old winger will remain a non-factor in all fantasy formats in 2023-24.

  • Sharks' Scott Sabourin: Recalled from minors

Sabourin was elevated from AHL San Jose on Monday.

Sabourin will join the NHL roster for the first time this season, having spent the entire campaign in the minors. With the Barracuda, the 31-year-old forward has generated nine goals and four assists in 29 contests. Considering the Ontario native has just 43 games of NHL experience, with his last game coming during the 2021-22 season with Ottawa, fantasy players probably shouldn't be banking on him sticking around long-term.
