  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Loses to former team

Gibson allowed four goals on 31 shots in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Ducks. The fifth goal was an empty-netter. Gibson has allowed four goals in three of his last four outings, so he's a bit lucky to be 2-2-0 in that span. The 32-year-old wasn't able to fend off his former teammates in his return to Anaheim after the offseason trade that sent him to Detroit. Gibson is 4-3-0 with a 3.32 GAA and an .875 save percentage over seven appearances. The Red Wings visit the Sharks on Sunday, but they haven't announced a starting goalie for that contest at this time.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Set to start Friday

Gibson will serve as the starting netminder for Friday's road game against Anaheim, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. The Red Wings have a back-to-back set to close out the week, and Cam Talbot will start Thursday in Los Angeles while Gibson handles the second half of the back-to-back in a matchup against his former team. Gibson has started in five of the Red Wings' last six games, going 4-1-0 with a 2.60 GAA and .902 save percentage during that time.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Picks up second straight win

Gibson made 20 out of 22 saves in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Blues. Outside of an early goal from Brayden Schenn and a late twine finder from Jordan Kyrou, Gibson was steady, which allowed the Wings to pick up their second consecutive win. The 32-year-old Gibson has a 4-2-0 record with an .876 save percentage and a 3.20 GAA. Tuesday's performance was one of his strongest outings of the year, and he's beginning to provide a premium in the win column for fantasy managers. He's appeared in five of Detroit's last six games, and his success in that run is beginning to cement his hold on the starting spot over Cam Talbot.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Starting against St. Louis

Gibson will serve as the starting netminder for Tuesday's road game against St. Louis, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Gibson picked up the win at home against the Blues in his last start, and he'll have a chance to face St. Louis again Tuesday. He's started in four of the Red Wings' last five games, going 3-1-0 with a 2.75 GAA and .900 save percentage during that time.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Beaten four times, picks up win

Gibson stopped 25 of 29 shots in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Blues. Gibson was beaten four times between the first period and the early stages of the second frame. However, he shut the door afterward, and after receiving support from an offense that scored six unanswered goals, he ended up claiming the win. Despite winning three of his five starts this season, Gibson hasn't been a reliable presence between the pipes for Detroit. He's allowed at least four goals in three of those outings while stopping 107 of the 123 shots he's faced thus far.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Facing Blues

Gibson will patrol the home crease against St. Louis on Saturday, per Lou Korac of The Hockey News. Gibson's two-game winning streak ended in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Buffalo. He has a 2-2-0 record this campaign while stopping 82 of the 94 shots he has faced. St. Louis is tied for 21st in the league with 2.86 goals per game this season.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Allows four goals in loss

Gibson stopped 27 of 31 shots in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Sabres. Gibson had won his previous two starts, and he kept the Sabres off the board for half the game. They then scored two goals in the second and third periods, which the Red Wings couldn't match. Gibson is 2-2-0 with 12 goals allowed over four starts this season. He's not bringing much consistency to the crease, and Cam Talbot has won all three of his starts so far. Talbot is likely to get the nod for Thursday versus the Islanders, but it's anybody's guess who gets the crease for Detroit beyond that.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Tending twine against Buffalo

Gibson will start Wednesday's road game against the Sabres, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Gibson will draw a third consecutive start after he went 2-0-0 with a 1.46 GAA and a .940 save percentage over his last two outings. Although he'll be on the road, he has a favorable matchup against the Sabres. Buffalo has averaged just 2.50 goals per game to begin the year, which is the fifth-worst mark in the league.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Coasts to win Sunday

Gibson made 16 saves on 18 shots in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Oilers. Gibson had a relatively easy outing Sunday against the reigning Western Conference champs. The 32-year-old netminder tended a clean first period before allowing the first goal halfway through the second period. The latter of the two he surrendered was against Leon Draisaitl, the reigning Rocket Richard Trophy winner. Sunday's victory was Gibson's second consecutive win between the pipes, and he now has a 2-1-0 record, a 2.98 GAA and an .873 save percentage through three appearances. His early numbers this season aren't quite what he posted in 29 regular-season appearances a year ago, but he continues to find a way to outduel opposing goalies. If both Gibson and Cam Talbot remain healthy, Gibson should have solid streaming value and is a candidate for spot starts in fantasy when his name is called. Gibson and Talbot will likely split the upcoming two games, with one going against the Sabres on Wednesday and the other versus the Islanders on Thursday.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Starting Sunday

Gibson will defend the home crease against Edmonton on Saturday, according to Max Bultman of The Athletic. Gibson was stellar Friday, turning aside 32 shots in a 2-1 overtime win over Tampa Bay. The win was in stark contrast to his only other appearance this season, when he allowed five goals on 13 shots in a loss to Montreal on Opening Night. Edmonton has managed only 10 goals in four games this campaign.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Rebounds well in second start

Gibson allowed one goal on 32 shots in Friday's 2-1 overtime win over the Lightning. Gibson was pulled from his Detroit debut Oct. 9 versus the Canadiens, but his second start went much better. He needed to be good, and he was, allowing the Red Wings to earn a fourth straight win. It may still take a few performances for Gibson to claw back from starts from Cam Talbot, and both goalies can be expected to see a decent share of time this season. The Red Wings wrap up their current three-game homestand against the Oilers on Sunday.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Set to start Friday

Gibson is slated to defend the home crease against the Lightning on Friday, Sean Shapiro of DLLS Sports reports. While Cam Talbot will draw a third consecutive start at home against the Panthers on Wednesday, Gibson will return to the net against Tampa Bay. Gibson allowed five goals on 13 shots during his Opening Night start at home against Montreal before being pulled late in the second period, and he'll attempt to bounce back Friday.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Gets hook in Wings debut

Gibson stopped eight of 13 shots before being replaced by Cam Talbot late in the second period of Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Canadiens. It was an inauspicious beginning to Gibson's Red Wings tenure, but defensive breakdowns and bad bounces contributed to the first four goals against the veteran netminder, before he gave up a juicy rebound to set up the fifth and got the hook. Detroit is counting on Gibson to reinforce its crease after the veteran netminder posted a 2.77 GAA and .911 save percentage over 29 appearances for a struggling Ducks squad in 2024-25, but he'll need more help from his new teammates than he got Thursday.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Set to face Habs

Gibson will patrol the home crease in the Red Wings' season opener against Montreal on Thursday, per Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press. Gibson will also make his Detroit debut after being acquired from Anaheim over the summer. The 32-year-old netminder had an 11-11-2 record, 2.77 GAA and .911 save percentage in 29 regular-season appearances with the Ducks last year. Gibson should get the majority of the Red Wings' starts this year, but Cam Talbot might still get a larger workload than a typical backup.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Set to start Saturday

Gibson will patrol the home crease in Saturday's preseason finale against Toronto, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Gibson stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced in Monday's 2-1 exhibition loss to Pittsburgh. After being acquired from Anaheim during the offseason, he will likely begin the 2025-26 campaign as Detroit's No. 1 netminder.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Between pipes against Pittsburgh

Gibson will tend the home twine in Monday's exhibition contest against the Penguins, per Ansar Khan of MLive.com. Gibson will draw into his second start of the preseason Monday. The veteran netminder was sharp in limited action Friday against the Penguins, turning aside 13 of 14 shots before giving way to Michal Postava. Gibson will attempt to help Detroit get into the postseason for the first time since 2016 in 2025-26.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Looks ready to begin camp

Gibson (lower body) practiced Thursday in the Red Wings' first on-ice session, Michael Whitaker of The Hockey News reports. Gibson was acquired by Detroit from Anaheim back in June. Injuries have been a major theme for Gibson over the last few years, but it's a good sign that he's on the ice and apparently healthy to begin his first training camp with the Red Wings. The 32-year-old will compete with Cam Talbot for starts this year, though Gibson is the favorite to handle a starting role.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Motown bound in trade

Detroit obtained Gibson (lower body) from Anaheim on Saturday in exchange for Petr Mrazek, a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round selection in 2026. Gibson has dealt with injuries while losing playing time to Lukas Dostal in recent seasons. In 2024-25, the 31-year-old Gibson went 11-11-2 with a 2.73 GAA and .912 save percentage, but he has struggled mightily since 2019-20 as the Ducks went through a rebuild. Detroit is banking on him being able to bounce back in a different environment. Cam Talbot, who is 37, is signed for one more season at $2.5 million. Gibson should enter the 2025-26 campaign as Detroit's No. 1 netminder.

  • Ducks' John Gibson: Ends season on shelf

Gibson (lower body) won't suit up versus the Jets on Wednesday. Gibson will miss his seventh straight game to close out the season. The oft-injured netminder is under contract for another two years at a $6.4 million cap hit. He also has a 10-team no-trade list, but his name has come up in rumors for years, and those could surface again during the offseason following the emergence of Lukas Dostal as a viable No. 1 goalie in 2024-25.

  • Ducks' John Gibson: Not suiting up

Gibson (lower body) won't play Tuesday versus the Wild. It's looking less likely that Gibson will be able to return to the crease in 2024-25. This will be his sixth straight absence, and the Ducks' season finale is Wednesday in Winnipeg. Lukas Dostal will start Tuesday, and if Gibson remains out, look for Ville Husso to get the nod Wednesday.
