Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Stellar under heavy pressure
Markstrom stopped 43 of 44 shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Kings.
Markstrom faced 40-plus shots for the second game in a row, but he came away with a much better result this time after allowing eight goals in his previous outing. He limited the Kings to an Andrei Kuzmenko goal midway through the third period. Markstrom improved to 3-2-0 with a 4.17 GAA and an .875 save percentage over five outings this season. The Devils signed the Swedish netminder to a two-year extension on Friday, so they clearly believe he can get back on track and be a part of their success in the near future. Fantasy managers should do the same -- he's an effective starter when he's at his best, though he may have his workload managed to avoid further injuries. Look for Jake Allen to get the nod Sunday in Anaheim.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: In goal Saturday
Markstrom will protect the road goal versus the Kings on Saturday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Markstrom was rocked for eight goals against the Avalanche on Tuesday in his return from a lower-body injury. He'll have an easier matchup in Saturday's contest, though the Kings haven't lost in regulation over their last seven games.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Inks two-year extension
Markstrom signed a two-year, $12 million contract extension with the Devils on Friday.
Markstrom will pull in the same salary as he has had since the 2020-21 campaign on this new deal. The 35-year-old netminder will also continue to share the crease with Jake Allen for the next two seasons. Markstrom is off to a rough start in 2025-26, going 2-2-0 with a 5.13 GAA and an .830 save percentage over four appearances. However, he's an experienced starter and should get himself on track eventually.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Gives up eight goals
Markstrom stopped 34 of 42 shots in Tuesday's 8-4 loss to the Avalanche.
Markstrom allowed four goals on the power play and four at even strength. He surrendered at least two goals in each period, and the Devils couldn't find a way to slow down the Avalanche. Markstrom's first start since recovering from a lower-body injury was a rough one, but he should remain New Jersey's No. 1 goaltender ahead of Jake Allen. However, Allen could push for more playing time if Markstrom continues to struggle this season.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Expected to start in Colorado
Markstrom is scheduled to tend the road twine Tuesday against the Avalanche, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Markstrom returned to the lineup Sunday as the backup to Jake Allen in Sunday's 4-3 overtime win over Colorado. The 35-year-old Markstrom will get the nod in Tuesday's rematch, and it'll be his first appearance since he suffered a lower-body injury Oct. 13 in Columbus. The Avalanche have lost four straight games (0-1-3) and rank 13th in the NHL with 3.30 goals per game in 2025-26.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Dresses as backup
Markstrom (lower body) is dressed for Sunday's game as the backup goaltender, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Sunday.
It's not in the starting role, but Markstrom dressing at all is a good sign for the Devils. The 35-year-old was set to miss at least two weeks as of October 15, but his return to the lineup Sunday puts him ahead of that timeline. The Devils remained red-hot without him in the lineup but his return should provide an even bigger boost to the team, despite Markstrom's pedestrian start statistically (2-1-0 record, 3.88 GAA, .845 save percentage).

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Poised for 2-3 week absence
Markstrom is expected to miss "a couple of weeks" with a lower-body injury according to head coach Sheldon Keefe on Wednesday.
There was speculation regarding Markstrom's status after the Devils recalled Nico Daws from the minors Wednesday. In three outings this year, including a relief appearance versus Columbus on Monday, the 35-year-old Markstrom has a 2-1-0 record and an .845 save percentage. Without Markstrom in the lineup, Jake Allen (undisclosed) is expected to see the bulk of the workload but could share plenty of starts with Daws. Given the length of his injury absence, Markstrom could be a candidate for injured reserve in the coming days.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Nabs win in relief
Markstrom picked up the win Monday over the Blue Jackets, stopping eight of nine shots after replacing Jake Allen (cramping) to begin the third period in a 3-2 victory.
Markstrom took over with the Devils ahead 2-1, but a late goal by Dmitri Voronkov made Dawson Mercer's third-period tally the winner. Markstrom had a rough season debut against the Hurricanes on Oct. 9, coughing up five goals on 32 shots, but since then, the veteran netminder has won two straight appearances while allowing four goals in four periods of action.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Little action in win
Markstrom made 14 saves in a 5-3 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday.
The Bolts came out strong but quickly shrank after the Devils scored at the 8:30 mark of the first period. Even still, Markstrom had to be strong between the pipes. The netminder is now 1-1-0 with a 4.04 GAA and an .837 save percentage this season. We're not concerned; those numbers should improve over the next couple of weeks.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Set to start Saturday
Markstrom will protect the road goal Saturday versus the Lightning, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Markstrom will get the nod in the Devils' second game, and he'll be looking to bounce back from a tough opener. He allowed five goals on 32 shots in a 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes on Thursday. The 35-year-old still has quite a bit of a leash as the Devils' top goalie, but if his struggles persist in the long run, Jake Allen could get more time.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Allows two late goals in defeat
Markstrom conceded five goals on 32 shots in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes. One of the Hurricanes' goals was an empty-netter.
Markstrom and his club were in a tightly-contested game late in the final frame, but the Hurricanes exploded for three goals in the final three minutes. This was far from his best performance, though better days should be coming for Markstrom, as the Devils will likely give him plenty of offensive support throughout the season. Look for the Swedish netminder to get the nod again Saturday in Tampa Bay.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Expected to start Thursday
Markstrom is slated to patrol the visiting crease on Opening Night in Carolina on Thursday, according to Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.
Markstrom rebounded from a tough couple of seasons to post a 26-16-6 record with four shutouts, a 2.50 GAA and a .900 save percentage across 49 outings in 2024-25. He'll face a Carolina side that is expected to be at or near the top of the Metropolitan Division standings this season.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Set to start Thursday
Markstrom will protect the road goal in Thursday's preseason game versus the Rangers.
Markstrom will make his third start of the preseason. He's played roughly a full game over his first two appearances, allowing three goals on 21 shots. Expect Markstrom to get the full game Thursday so he can be stretched out for the Devils' Opening Night game versus the Hurricanes next Thursday.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: In goal Tuesday
Markstrom will defend the cage for Tuesday's preseason matchup with the Islanders at home, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Markstrom put up 26 wins in 49 regular-season games with the Devils last season, his eighth straight year reaching the 20-win threshold. Still, during that eight-year stretch, the Swedish backstop has only notched 30 victories once, back in 2021-22 when he was with the Flames. With Jake Allen in the fold, Markstrom is unlikely to be asked to play 60 games a year, which could prevent him from putting up the big win totals like Connor Hellebuyck or Andrei Vasilevskiy.
