Dan Villari: Returns to Rams on practice squad
Villari signed with the Rams' practice squad Monday, Zach Edwards of the team's official site reports.
Villari was waived by the Rams on Saturday after failing to crack the 53-man roster but he'll stay with the organization as a member of the practice squad. The Rams currently carry five tight ends on the active roster, and Villari could be elevated from the practice squad for Week 1 against the 49ers if either or both of Terrance Ferguson (general soreness) and Davis Allen (quadriceps) were ruled out for the regular-season opener.

Dan Villari: Doesn't survive roster cut
The Rams waived Villari on Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Villari joined Los Angeles as an undrafted free agent in late April and played in all three of the team's preseason games, catching one of two targets for 24 yards. The Syracuse product has intriguing versatility, as he logged some time as a quarterback and also was used often as a rusher during college. Villari is a candidate to settle in with the Rams' practice squad if he goes through waivers unclaimed.

Dan Villari: Expected to join Rams
Villari is slated to sign with the Rams as an undrafted free agent, Tom Rock of Newsday reports.
Villari is a unique and intriguing prospect, as he worked as a pass catcher, runner and quarterback during his college tenure, with his last four seasons spent with Syracuse. As a senior, he recorded 39 catches for 412 yards and rushed 17 times for 55 yards and a touchdown. He hasn't seen work as a quarterback since 2023, when he completed 23 of 33 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions for the Orange, so his path to an NFL roster spot is likely as a tight end.
