Top Kimani Vidal News

  • Chargers' Kimani Vidal: Sees little playing time Week 1

Vidal played five snaps (four on offense, one on special teams) and didn't show up on the box score otherwise during the Chargers' 26-14 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.

Vidal was an afterthought in the Chargers' plans on offense, with Omarion Hampton (32 snaps) and Keaton Mitchell (17) collectively getting the bulk of the backfield work Week 1. Vidal also wasn't used as a returner, though that could change for Week 2 against the Raiders on Sept. 20 if Derius Davis (undisclosed) is ruled out for that contest.

  • Chargers' Kimani Vidal: Tallies six snaps in preseason finale

Vidal totaled six offensive snaps in Thursday's exhibition loss to the Rams, recording nine yards on three carries.

Top RB Omarion Hampton started for the Chargers and played two series. Vidal followed and rushed for five yards on his first carry before losing a yard on the next play. He was on the field for a few more snaps during the Chargers' next series before calling it a day. Keaton Mitchell (undisclosed) didn't play in the contest, and it's unclear what precise issue he's dealing with it or how long he'll be sidelined. There's been no indication to this point that Mitchell is in danger of missing Week 1 of the regular season, but if that were to change, Vidal would be slated for an increased role behind Hampton.

  • Chargers' Kimani Vidal: Plays 19 offensive snaps Thursday

Vidal turned four carries into six yards while catching both targets for 10 yards during the Chargers' 41-17 preseason loss to the 49ers on Thursday. He also returned one kickoff for 27 yards.

Vidal was the third running back with a touch behind Omarion Hampton and Keaton Mitchell, and Vidal's 19 snaps on offense were most among Chargers running backs. Vidal's production Thursday was not as good as his performance in the Chargers' preseason opener against the Texans, and it looks like Mitchell is in the lead for the RB2 job behind Hampton. The Chargers wrap up their preseason this Thursday against the Rams.

  • Chargers' Kimani Vidal: Starts preseason opener

Vidal got the start in Thursday's 27-7 preseason win over the Texans and rushed five times for eight yards while failing to catch his only target.

The Chargers rested starting running back Omarion Hampton for the preseason opener, and offseason addition Keaton Mitchell didn't register a touch. This was a quiet performance from Vidal, but the 2024 sixth-round pick remains in the mix for touches behind Hampton after a solid sophomore season in which Vidal produced 779 regular-season scrimmage yards.

  • Chargers' Kimani Vidal: Set to be utilized in committee

Vidal was listed a co-backup in the the Chargers' first unofficial depth chart Monday, Eric Smith of the team's official website reports.

Vidal and offseason addition Keaton Mitchell were listed as the top backup options behind starter Omarion Hampton ahead of the team's preseason opener Thursday in Houston. Vidal returned to Los Angeles on a one-year deal in the offseason after turning 155 carries into 643 yards and three scores across 13 regular-season contests in 2025, and he's expected to be utilized as a part of a backfield committee in 2026. New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel outlined that he will use all three of Hampton, Vidal and Mitchell every game, leaning on the "hot hand," which he described as "bad news" for fantasy managers and good news for him.
