Colts' Anthony Richardson: Remains in Colts' plans
Richardson is expected to remain with the Colts in 2026, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
Assistant general manager Ed Dodds spoke about Indianapolis' quarterback situation Sunday, saying, "We want to have three [quarterbacks] that can play," Dodds said. "So, if [Richardson] is one of them, he's going to be here. ... Look at last year. You never know." Richardson enters his fourth season with the team but is ticketed for a backup role behind Daniel Jones. He had a strong showing in his preseason start against New England, going 11 of 14 for 145 yards to go with 53 rushing yards.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Two turnovers in preseason tie
Richardson got the start in Thursday's 13-13 preseason tie with the Patriots, completing 11 of 14 passes for 145 yards and an interception while adding 53 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries. He also lost a fumble.
The 2023 first-round pick barely saw action in 2025 due to injuries, but Richardson has been healthy in training camp and played the entire first half, producing the Colts' only TD of the night on a one-yard plunge in the second quarter. His two turnovers could be attributed to rust, but ball security was an issue for Richardson even before he got hurt, as he threw 12 INTs while losing three of nine fumbles over 11 regular-season contests in 2024. He'll begin the current campaign backing up Daniel Jones, and hoping to show enough to increase his trade value.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: In line to start preseason opener
Richardson will start Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Richardson will handle the first half of the contest, while Riley Leonard will start the second half. Then in the team's second preseason tilt, Aug. 22 against the Falcons, that arrangement will be reversed. The two signal callers remain in contention to serve as Daniel Jones' top backup and will have their chance to make their cases in the coming weeks, with Jones not slated to play at all in the preseason.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Playing Thursday
Richardson is set to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Richardson is set to share snaps with fellow quarterback Riley Leonard in Thursday's game as the two continue to compete for the No. 2 quarterback role behind Daniel Jones. Richardson has had a rough run in training camp and will need to show out during the preseason to keep his spot as the backup.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: In battle for No. 2 role
Richardson is in a competition for the backup quarterback role in Indianapolis ahead of the 2026 campaign, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
Richardson is competing with second-year pro Riley Leonard for the No. 2 role behind starter Daniel Jones. Richardson and Leonard are reportedly "neck and neck right now," according to offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. Both quarterbacks are expected to continue to rotate reps between the second- and third-team offenses, and GM Chris Ballard said Tuesday that it is his intent to carry Jones, Richardson and Leonard on the Colts' roster when it is cut to 53 players on Aug. 30.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Still seeking trade
Though Richardson's trade request is still on the table, GM Chris Ballard's stance regarding the QB's status remains unchanged, Kevin Bowen of 1075thefan.com reports.
Ballard said the current intention is for the Colts to carry three quarterbacks into the regular season, and for now Richardson remains in the backup mix behind Daniel Jones, along with Riley Leonard and Easton Stick. Regarding Richardson, whom the team took fourth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Ballard noted, "We are not just giving him away." It's still possible that another team looking for QB depth will explore dealing for Richardson in the coming weeks, but for now he's on track to compete for slotting behind Jones (Achilles), who indicated Monday that he'll be full go to start training camp.
