Bills' Ray Davis: Continues to work behind Cook
As training camp approaches, Davis is on track to maintain his complementary role in a Buffalo backfield that returns starter James Cook as well as Ty Johnson, Matt Parrino of Syracuse.com reports.
During the 2025 regular season, Cook logged 309 carries (third in the NFL) for a league-high 1,621 rushing yards in 17 contests, a heavy workload that didn't leave much volume for either Davis (58 carries) or Ty Johnson (50 carries). With Cook entrenched as the Bills' lead back, Davis brings modest fantasy utility into 2026, but he remains a valuable backup who excels as a kicker returner. If Cook were to miss time, Davis -- who racked up 151 rushing yards on 21 carries during a spot start in Week 18 last season -- would likely step in as the starter, with Johnson also in the mix.

Bills' Ray Davis: Pair of grabs in loss to Denver
Davis secured both of his targets for 33 yards during Buffalo's 33-30 divisional-round overtime loss to the Broncos on Saturday.
Davis also recorded five kickoff returns for 130 yards versus Denver, but he didn't get a carry. The 2024 fourth-round pick earned first-team All-Pro honors as a kick returner in his sophomore season, but he took a step backward on offense, working behind both James Cook and Ty Johnson out of the backfield during the 2025 campaign. Across 17 regular-season appearances, Davis carried the ball 58 times for 275 yards and zero scores while also securing 10 of 13 targets for 86 yards. Of those totals, 151 of Davis' rushing yards came in a meaningless Week 18 win over the Jets in which Cook took a seat after the second offensive snap. Cook, Johnson and Davis all remain under contract with the Bills for 2026.

Bills' Ray Davis: Special-teams impact in win
Davis recorded four kickoff returns for 119 yards and lost a fumble in Sunday's 27-24 wild-card win over the Jaguars.
Davis didn't garner any touches on offense as James Cook handled the entirety of the backfield work versus Jacksonville. Davis did return four kicks, the first of which he put on the ground, and it was recovered by the Jaguars. The running back will look to be more involved in the Bills' offensive attack in the AFC divisional round.

Bills' Ray Davis: Runs for 151 in Week 18
Davis rushed 21 times for 151 yards while catching both of his targets for 23 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 35-8 win over the Jets. He also had a 22-yard kickoff return.
Davis and Ty Johnson (56 scrimmage yards and two total touchdowns on 15 touches) both capitalized on increased workloads against the hapless Jets, as James Cook didn't touch the ball after Buffalo's second offensive snap. Cook is certain to reclaim the lead role in Buffalo's backfield in the wild-card round, when the sixth-seeded Bills travel to Jacksonville. Davis' two-yard receiving touchdown in the third quarter from backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was the second receiving score of the season for the 2024 fourth-round pick, but Davis finished the regular season without a rushing touchdown.

Bills' Ray Davis: Two touches vs. Philly
Davis caught his lone target for 12 yards and rushed once for four yards during Sunday's 13-12 loss to the Eagles. He added 84 kick-return yards on three attempts.
Davis played nine offensive snaps during Sunday's loss and received a carry for the second consecutive game. The second-year pro from Kentucky has now rushed 37 times for 124 yards and caught eight of 11 targets for 63 yards and a touchdown through 16 games this season. He's been one of the NFL's most dynamic kick returners, averaging 30.7 yards per return and totaling 921 yards on the year. Expect Davis to remain a depth option in the Bills' backfield while contributing on special teams in the Week 18 matchup against the Jets, though he could see extra action if the Bills decide to ease back on starters like James Cook now that the AFC East title is out of reach for the playoff-bound Bills.

Davis rushed three times for 14 yards and caught both of his targets for 20 yards during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Browns. He also returned four kickoffs for 92 yards.
Davis' five offensive touches during Sunday's win were the most he's received since the Bills' Week 13 win over the Steelers. Despite this, the Kentucky product played just eight offensive snaps, suggesting he remains behind both James Cook and Ty Johnson in Buffalo's backfield. Davis has now tallied 837 kickoff-return yards, 120 rushing yards and 51 receiving yards through the Bills' first 15 games this season. He's expected to remain one of the league's premier return men in the Week 17 matchup against the Eagles.

Davis caught his lone target for 13 yards and returned four kickoffs for 164 yards during Sunday's 35-31 win over the Patriots.
Although Davis played a minimal offensive role in Sunday's comeback win, he averaged 41 yards per kickoff return and consistently provided the Bills' offense with good field position. Since taking over as Buffalo's lead kickoff returner in the Week 9 win over the Chiefs, Davis has accumulated 745 return yards and a touchdown, averaging a league-leading 32.4 yards per return, a mark that would also set a Bills franchise record. The second-year pro from Kentucky is expected to remain one of the NFL's most dynamic return men in the Week 16 matchup against the Browns.

Bills' Ray Davis: Reverts to kick-return duties
Davis didn't record a carry or target during Sunday's 39-34 win over the Bengals but returned four kickoffs for 84 yards.
Davis rushed for a season-high 62 yards on nine carries during the Bills' Week 13 win over the Steelers. However, he saw the field for 10 total snaps Sunday (four on offense, six on special teams), and the only time he touched the ball was on kickoffs as a returner. Ty Johnson, in contrast, played 16 snaps on offense and finished with two carries for 25 yards and two catches (on three targets) for 14 yards. Davis and Johnson both worked behind James Cook out of the backfield, and that trend should continue in this Sunday's AFC East tilt against the Patriots.

Davis took nine carries for 62 yards without being targeted as a receiver in Sunday's 26-7 win over the Steelers.
Davis added 15 yards on his only kick return, failing to recreate the electricity from last week's return TD against the Texans. The 25-year-old backup instead stood out by outproducing his entire rushing yardage total from his 11 previous appearances in one contest. Davis had reached nine carries just twice prior to Week 13, with both occurrences coming in blowouts just like Sunday's. Fantasy managers can safely ignore Davis ahead of next Sunday's tilt against the Bengals.

Davis didn't record a carry or target in Thursday's 23-19 loss to the Texans but returned three kickoffs for 145 yards and a touchdown.
Davis played just six snaps on offense compared to 36 for James Cook and 23 for Ty Johnson. Despite Davis' lack of involvement on that side of the ball, the second-year pro left his mark on Thursday's game with a 97-yard kickoff return touchdown, which gave the Bills a 16-13 lead in the second quarter. Davis will have minimal fantasy appeal as long as both Cook and Johnson are ahead of him on the depth chart.
