Browns' Jerome Ford: Falls behind rookie in loss
Ford caught one of two targets for minus-1 yard in Sunday's 32-13 loss to the Patriots in Week 8.
For the second consecutive week, Ford was on the field for 13 snaps, which was fewer than Dylan Sampson (25 snaps). It was the first time this season that Ford lagged behind the rookie, a telling sign as the Browns enter a bye week followed by the NFL trade deadline (Nov. 4). Sampson took over as the lead back Sunday after Quinshon Judkins (shoulder) was ruled out, and that would likely be the case again if Judkins isn't ready to return in Week 10 against the Jets.

Browns' Jerome Ford: Three touches in win
Ford had one carry for zero yards and caught both of his targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 31-6 win over the Dolphins in Week 7.
Ford was given his fewest snaps (13) and second-fewest touches of the season, seeing less touch volume than Dylan Sampson (nine snaps, four touches), who also returned two kickoffs while Ford did not. That usage on special teams may be telling. It's a change that began in Week 6, when Sampson returned five kickoffs to Ford's one as the rookie takes over the top backup job behind starter Quinshon Judkins. With two more weeks before the trade deadline, Ford could be on the move before Nov. 4.

Browns' Jerome Ford: Possible trade-deadline candidate
Ford is one of a few members of the Browns that could be moved before the trade deadline, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
Ever since the Browns selected two running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft, it felt like Ford could be flipped at the deadline, which falls on Nov. 4, a day after Week 9 wraps. That Cleveland is 1-5 and seemingly playing for the future only cements that notion. He's primarily served as a third-down back since rookie Quinshon Judkins was established as the starter earlier this season. Lately, Dylan Sampson, a fourth-round draft pick in 2025, has rotated in with Ford, which sets up a scenario where Cleveland trades Ford and allots more playing time to Sampson.

Browns' Jerome Ford: Totals 30 yards from scrimmage
Ford had two carries for 17 yards and caught five of six targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 23-9 loss to the Steelers. He also returned one kickoff for 22 yards.
Ford was on the field for 33 offensive snaps -- his most since Week 2 -- and had seven touches for the second straight week. His playing time has increased the last two games, which is tied to the quarterback change from Joe Flacco to rookie Dillon Gabriel. Ford leads the Cleveland backfield with 21 targets through six games and could see an uptick in usage as a runner going forward if the organization is cognizant on easing up on the heavy workloads that rookie Quinshon Judkins has handled since making his NFL debut Week 2.
