Bengals' Evan McPherson: Boots pair of PATs in loss
McPherson knocked through both of his extra-point tries and did not log any field-goal attempts in the Bengals' 41-14 preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday afternoon.
The fifth-year pro is coming off a 2024 downturn that saw him convert a career-low 72.7 percent of his field-goal attempts, but he seems poised for a bounce-back campaign if his preseason performance is any indication. McPherson saw time in all three of the Bengals' exhibitions and converted his three field-goal attempts and nine PATs over that span, and his association with a prolific Joe Burrow-led offense therefore makes the talented kicker's outlook bright heading into the 2025 season.

Bengals' Evan McPherson: Going back to original technique
McPherson is reverting back to the original kicking technique that he employed in 2021-22 after switching the last two years, a change that drew mixed results, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. He hasn't yet missed a kick in camp.
McPherson initially employed a gentle draw, but switched to a kick that in theory flew straighter, taking the wind out of the equation more. But the new technique robbed him of a little distance, and last season the control eluded him, too, leading to six missed kicks, including two critical misses in a loss to the Chargers.

Bengals' Evan McPherson: Returns to full health
McPherson has recovered from a torn abductor muscle sustained in 2024, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.
McPherson has been participating in Cincinnati's voluntary OTAs, indicating he's fully recovered from the abdomen injury that forced him to miss the team's final five games last season. The Florida product had the worst season of his NFL career in 2024, converting on just 16 of 22 field-goal attempts. Over the past two seasons, he's made only 52.6 percent of his field-goal tries (10 of 19) from 50 or more yards. However, he's missed just one of his last 78 extra-point attempts and appears poised for a bounce-back season in 2025.

Bengals' Evan McPherson: Limited to 12 games in 2024
McPherson (groin) converted 16 of 22 field-goal attempts across 12 regular-season appearances with the Bengals in 2024. He also went 37-for-38 on PATs.
McPherson ended his campaign with a career-low 73 percent conversion rate on field goals before landing on IR with a groin injury in early December, with all four of his misses coming from 50-plus yards out. He inked a three-year, $16.5 million extension with Cincinnati last August, meaning McPherson remains under contract through the 2027 campaign.

Bengals' Evan McPherson: Placed on IR
The Bengals placed McPherson on injured reserve Wednesday with a right groin injury.
McPherson will thus miss at least four games, meaning that the soonest he'll be eligible to return from IR is Week 18 against the Steelers. Heading into Monday's game against the Cowboys, the Bengals sit on a 4-8 record for the season. If the team is eliminated from playoff contention by the time Week 18 rolls around, the Bengals may just decide to keep McPherson on IR for the duration of the season. The Bengals signed Cade York to their practice squad Wednesday and are likely to elevate him ahead of Monday's game to replace McPherson, who converted 16 of 22 field-goal attempts and 37 of 38 extra-point tries through Cincinnati's first 12 games.

Bengals' Evan McPherson: In line to miss time
McPherson is expected to miss a few weeks due to a groin injury, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
While Garafolo indicates that McPherson's injury is not season-ending, the kicker is on track to miss some time. With that in mind, the Bengals will sign Cade York to their practice squad and are expected to elevate him ahead of Monday's game against the Cowboys.

Bengals' Evan McPherson: Converts all six kicks vs. Steelers
McPherson made his lone field-goal attempt and went 5-for-5 on extra-point tries in Sunday's 44-38 loss to the Steelers.
McPherson was perfect on his kicking attempts Sunday, though it amounted to just eight total points. He's 10-for-10 on field-goal attempts under 40 yards but just 6-for-12 outside that range, including 3-for-7 from 50-plus yards. McPherson is up to 85 points through 12 regular-season games, going 16-for-22 on field-goal tries and 37-for-38 on extra-point attempts.

Bengals' Evan McPherson: Misses two kicks Sunday night
McPherson made two of his four field-goal tries and converted all three of his extra-point attempts during Sunday's 34-27 loss against the Chargers.
McPherson has not missed a field goal shorter than 40 yards this season, but he's been far less consistent on longer kicks, and the story was no different in Week 11. It was especially costly Sunday, as both the 48-yarder he missed in the middle of the fourth quarter and the 51-yarder he missed with less than two minutes remaining would have given the Bengals the lead. He'll be looking to bounce back against the Steelers following Cincinnati's Week 12 bye.
